Abstract
Since gold is located well beyond the oxo wall, chemical species with terminal Au-N and Au-O units are extremely rare and limited to low coordination numbers. We report here that these unusual units can be trapped within a suitable organometallic frame. Thus, the terminal auronitrene and auroxyl derivatives [(CF3 )3 AuN]- and [(CF3 )3 AuO]- were identified as local minima by calculation. These open-shell, high-energy ions were experimentally detected by tandem mass spectrometry (MS2 ): They respectively arise by N2 or NO2 dissociation from the corresponding precursor species [(CF3 )3 Au(N3 )]- and [(CF3 )3 Au(ONO2 )]- in the gas phase. Together with the known fluoride derivative [(CF3 )3 AuF]- , they form an interesting series of isoleptic and alloelectronic complexes of the highly acidic organogold(iii) moiety (CF3 )3 Au with singly charged anions X- of the most electronegative elements (X=F, O, N). Ligand-field inversion in all these [(CF3 )3 AuX]- species results in the localization of unpaired electrons at the N and O atoms.

Abstract
The reactions leading to the formation of C-heteroatom bonds in the coordination sphere of Au(III) complexes are uncommon, and their mechanisms are not well known. This work reports on the synthesis and reductive elimination reactions of a series of Au(III) methyl complexes containing different Au-heteroatom bonds. Complexes [Au(CF3)(Me)(X)(PR3)] (R = Ph, X = OTf, OClO3, ONO2, OC(O)CF3, F, Cl, Br; R = Cy, X = Me, OTf, Br) were obtained by the reaction of trans-[Au(CF3)(Me)2(PR3)] (R = Ph, Cy) with HX. The cationic complex cis-[Au(CF3)(Me)(PPh3)2]OTf was obtained by the reaction of [Au(CF3)(Me)(OTf)(PPh3)] with PPh3. Heating these complexes led to the reductive elimination of MeX (X = Me, Ph3P+, OTf, OClO3, ONO2, OC(O)CF3, F, Cl, Br). Mechanistic studies indicate that these reductive elimination reactions occur either through (a) the formation of tricoordinate intermediates by phosphine dissociation, followed by reductive elimination of MeX, or (b) the attack of weakly coordinating anionic (TfO- or ClO4-) or neutral nucleophiles (PPh3 or NEt3) to the Au-bound methyl carbon. The obtained results show for the first time that the nucleophilic substitution should be considered as a likely reductive elimination pathway in Au(III) alkyl complexes.

Abstract
Cyclometalated Au(III) complexes are of interest due to their catalytic, medicinal, and photophysical properties. Herein, we describe the synthesis of derivatives of the type (N,C)Au(OAcF)2 (OAcF = trifluoroacetate) and (N,C,C)AuOAcF by a cyclometalation route, where (N,C) and (N,C,C) are chelating 2-arylpyridine ligands. The scope of the synthesis is explored by substituting the 2-arylpyridine core with electron donor or acceptor substituents at one or both rings. Notably, a variety of functionalized Au(III) complexes can be obtained in one step from the corresponding ligand and Au(OAc)3, eliminating the need for organomercury intermediates, which is commonly reported for similar syntheses. The influence of substituents in the ligand backbone on the resulting complexes was assessed using DFT calculations, 15N NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. A correlation between the electronic properties of the (N,C) ligands and their ability to undergo cyclometalation was found from experimental studies combined with natural charge analysis, suggesting the cyclometalation at Au(III) to take place via an electrophilic aromatic substitution-type mechanism. The formation of Au(III) pincer complexes from tridentate (N,C,C) ligands was investigated by synthesis and DFT calculations, in order to assess the feasibility of C(sp3)-H bond activation as a synthetic pathway to (N,C,C) cyclometalated Au(III) complexes. It was found that C(sp3)-H bond activation is feasible for ligands containing different alkyl groups (isopropyl and ethyl), although the C-H activation is less energetically favored compared to a ligand containing tert-butyl groups.

Abstract
Pyridine-substituted alkylidenecyclopropanes (Py-ACPs) react with gold(III) salts under mild reaction conditions through an unprecedented, proximal ring-opening pathway, to generate highly appealing, catalytically active pyridine alkenyl [C^N]-gold(III) species. Mechanistic studies reveal that the activation of the C-C bond of the ACP takes place through an unusual concerted, σ-bond metathesis type-process.

Abstract
A new synthetic strategy was devised leading to the formation of complexes, such as [Au(IPr)(CH2 COCH3)]. The approach capitalizes on the formation of a decomposition product observed in the course of the synthesis of [Au(IPr)(Cl)]. A library of gold acetonyl complexes containing the most common N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands has been synthesized. These acetonyl complexes are good synthons for the preparation of numerous organogold complexes. Moreover, they have proven to be precatalysts in common gold(I)-catalyzed reactions.

Abstract
(1)H, (13)C, (15)N and (195)Pt NMR studies of gold(III) and platinum(II) chloride organometallics with N(1),C(2')-chelated, deprotonated 2-phenylpyridine (2ppy*) of the formulae [Au(2ppy*)Cl(2)], trans(N,N)-[Pt(2ppy*)(2ppy)Cl] and trans(S,N)-[Pt(2ppy*)(DMSO-d(6))Cl] (formed in situ upon dissolving [Pt(2ppy*)(micro-Cl)](2) in DMSO-d(6)) were performed. All signals were unambiguously assigned by HMBC/HSQC methods and the respective (1)H, (13)C and (15)N coordination shifts (i.e. differences between chemical shifts of the same atom in the complex and ligand molecules: Delta(1H)(coord) = delta(1H)(complex) - delta(1H)(ligand), Delta(13C)(coord) = delta(13C)(complex) - delta(13C)(ligand), Delta(15N)(coord) = delta(15N)(complex) - delta(15N)(ligand)), as well as (195)Pt chemical shifts and (1)H-(195)Pt coupling constants discussed in relation to the known molecular structures. Characteristic deshielding of nitrogen-adjacent H(6) protons and metallated C(2') atoms as well as significant shielding of coordinated N(1) nitrogens is discussed in respect to a large set of literature NMR data available for related cyclometallated compounds.

The ligands HN(CH2-2-C5H4N)2, BPMA, and PhCH2N(CH2-2-C5H4N)2, BBPMA, react with Na[AuCl4] to give the cationic complexes [AuCl(BPMA-H)]+ and [AuCl(BBPMA)]2+, respectively. The amido complex [AuCl(BPMA-H)]+ undergoes easy inversion at the amido nitrogen atom and can be reversibly protonated by triflic acid to give [AuCl(BPMA)]2+. The complex [AuCl(BBPMA)]2+ is easily decomposed in aqueous solution by cleavage of a carbon-nitrogen bond or, in dilute HCl solution, by protonation of the ligand to give [BBPMAH2]Cl[AuCl4] The complexes [BBPMAH2]Cl[AuCl4] and [BBPMAH2]Cl[AuCl2] can be formed by direct reaction of BBPMA with H[AuCl4]. Unusual forms of gold(III)...gold(III) and gold(III)...gold(I) aurophilic bonding are observed in the salts [AuCl(BPMA-H)][PF6] and [AuCl(BPMA-H)][AuCl2], respectively. The first comparison of the structures of gold(III) amine and amido complexes, in the cations [AuCl(BPMA-H)]+ and [AuCl(BPMA)]2+, indicates that there is little ppi-dpi bonding in the amido-gold bond and that the amide exerts a stronger trans influence than the amine group.

Abstract
The aggregation tendency of complexes [Ru(eta6-cymene)(N,O)Cl]X [N,O = 2-benzoylpyridine (2-bzpy), 1, and 2-acetylpyridine (2-acpy), 2, X- = BPh4- or PF6-] has been studied by means of PGSE NMR experiments. It was found that complexes with PF6- as counterion are mainly present in CD2Cl2 as ion pairs at low concentration, as a mixture of ion triples and free anions at medium concentration and as ion quadruples at elevated concentration. 19F, 1H-HOESY NMR experiments revealed that in ion triples and ion quadruples two cationic Ru-units pair up. Consistently, in the solid-state structure of 1PF6, determined through X-ray single-crystal investigation, two cationic Ru-units are held together by an intermolecular pi-pi stacking interaction between the pyridyl rings. Complexes having BPh4- as counterion are only present in solution as even aggregates, namely ion pairs at low concentration and ion quadruples at elevated concentration. In such a case a counteranion bridges two cationic Ru-units as observed in the solid-state structure of 1BPh4. The reactivity of complexes 1-2 toward AgX salts has been investigated in different solvents. Bicationic [Ru(eta6-cymene)(N,O)(MeCN)]X2 (N,O = 2-bzpy, 3, and 2-acpy, 4) and [Ru(MeCN)4(N,O)]X2 (N,O = 2-bzpy, 5, and 2-acpy, 6) complexes were obtained by the reaction of 1 and 2 with AgX in the presence of three equivalents of acetonitrile or in acetonitrile, respectively. The reaction of 1 with AgPF6 in acetone afforded complex [Ru(eta6-cymene)(N,O,O)]PF6 (7, where N,O,O = 4-alcoxide-4-phenyl-4-(pyridin-2-yl)butan-2-one) from the C-C coupling of a deprotonated methyl group of the coordinated acetone and the C=O moiety of 2-bzpy ligand.
