Abstract
The aromaticity and electronic properties of acetylene-bridged hexadehydrotristhiopheno[12]annulenes (HDTAs) were revisited using a combined experimental and theoretical approach. Moreover, we attempted the synthesis of the butadiyne-bridged octadehydrobisthiopheno[12]annulenes (ODTAs). While the formation of ODTAs was indicated by NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and UV-vis absorption measurements, our attempts to isolate ODTAs were unsuccessful on account of its instability. Instead, their structure and energetic properties were predicted using DFT calculations. HDTA isomers in which the position where the thiophene rings are fused to the 12-membered ring differs (b- vs c-position) show distinct differences in their HOMO-LUMO energy gaps (EGap). ODTAs also show large EGap differences depending on the fusion position of the thiophene rings. The diene character of the thiophene ring significantly changes the electronic properties; i.e., EGap differences of >1 eV were observed between the isomers of both HDTAs and ODTAs. A theoretical evaluation of HDTAs and ODTAs revealed significant variation in the local aromaticity/antiaromaticity between the b- and c-isomers. The antiaromatic character of the 12-membered ring is attenuated for the b-isomers, whereas it is decreased substantially for the c-isomers. The results of this study are useful for a detailed understanding of the fundamental aspects of dehydrothiopheno[12]annulenes.

Abstract
The applicability of an intramolecular Nicholas reaction for the preparation of 10-membered O- and N-enediynes fused to indole, 1,2,3-triazole, and isocoumarin was investigated. The general approach to acyclic enediyne precursors fused to heterocycles includes inter- and intramolecular buta-1,3-diyne cyclizations with the formation of iodoethynylheterocycles, followed by Sonogashira coupling. The nature of both a heterocycle and a nucleophilic group affects the possibility of a 10-membered ring closure by the Nicholas reaction. Among oxacycles, an isocoumarin-fused enediyne was obtained. In the case of O-enediyne annulated with indole, instead of the formation of a 10-membered cycle, BF3-promoted addition of an OH-group to the proximal triple bond at the C3 position afforded dihydrofuryl-substituted indole. For 1,2,3-triazole-fused analogues, using NH-Ts as a nucleophilic functional group allowed obtaining 10-membered azaenediyne, while the substrate with a hydroxyl group gave only traces of the desired 10-membered oxacycle. An improved method for the deprotection of Co-complexes of cyclic enediynes using tetrabutylammonium fluoride in an acetone/water mixture and the investigation of the 10-membered enediynes' reactivity in the Bergman cyclization are also reported. In the solid state, all synthesized iodoethynylheterocycles were found to be involved in halogen bond (XB) formation with either O or N atoms as XB acceptors.

Abstract
Dinitroacetylene and other nitroacetylenes are attractive stoichiometric precursors to high energy-density materials, but suffer from high reactivity and thermal instability. Herein, we report that nitroacetylenes can be dramatically stabilized in the form of their dicobalt hexacarbonyl complexes. In particular, we describe the syntheses and characterization of the first two transition-metal complexes of nitroalkynes, [μ-1-nitro-2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyne-1,2-diyl]bis(tricarbonylcobalt)(Co-Co) and [μ-1-nitroethyne-1,2-diyl]bis(tricarbonylcobalt)(Co-Co). The chemistry of these compounds reveals their potential as reaction partners in [2+2+2] cyclotrimerizations, furnishing nitroindane, nitrotetralin, and trinitrobenzene products. The X-ray crystal structure of 1,3,5-trinitro-2,4,6-tris(trimethylsilyl)benzene presents a distorted, yet planar, aromatic ring.
