Abstract
Pd-Pd/PdO nanoclusters well dispersed on intercalated graphene oxide (GO) (denoted as GO@PPD-Pd) were prepared and characterized. GO@PPD-Pd exhibited high catalytic activity (a TOF value of 60 705 h-1) during the Suzuki coupling reaction, and it could be reused at least 6 times. The real active centre was Pd(200)-Pd(200)/PdO(110, 102). A change in the Pd facets on the surface of PdO was a key factor leading to deactivation, and the aggregation and loss of active centres was also another important reason. The catalytic mechanism involved heterogeneous catalysis, showing that the catalytic processes occurred at the interface, including substrate adsorption, intermediate formation, and product desorption. The real active centres showed enhanced negative charge due to the transfer of electrons from the carrier and ligands, which could effectively promote the oxidative addition reaction, and Pd(200) and the heteroconjugated Pd/PdO interface generated in situ also participated in the coupling process, synergistically boosting activity. Developed GO@PPD-Pd was a viable heterogeneous catalyst that may have practical applications owing to its easy synthesis and stability, and this synergistic approach can be utilized to develop other transition-metal catalysts.

Abstract
A series of amine bisphenol (ABP) pro-ligands featuring amino acid ester pendant arms were prepared. Optimisation of the synthetic method allowed the facile incorporation of naturally occurring, chiral amino acids into the ABP scaffold with minimal racemisation. Reaction of the pro-ligands (LH2) with Pd(OAc)2, in the presence of amines, led to the formation of complexes with an unprecedented pincer-like O,N,O coordination mode around the PdII centre. The complexations in the presence of trialkylamines (NR3) afforded a mixture of LPdNR3 and LPdNHR2 species. The latter was shown to form via an ambient-temperature C-N cleavage involving unstable Pd(OAc)2(NHR2)2 intermediates. Using pyridine as base eliminated this dealkylation and resulted in the exclusive formation of LPd(py) complexes in high yields. In total, seven novel PdII ABP complexes were prepared, exhibiting distorted square-planar geometries with the asymmetric ligand moieties orientated towards the metal centre. The air- and moisture-stable LPd(py) complexes were successfully employed as catalysts in two types of C-C coupling reactions. The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of 4'-bromoacetophenone and phenylboronic acid reached high yields (up to 81%), while a scope of further alkyl bromides was also efficiently converted using low catalyst loadings (1 mol%) and mild temperatures (40 °C). Furthermore, a Pd-pyridine complex achieved high activity in the Mizoroki-Heck coupling of styrene and 4'-bromoacetophenone.

Abstract
The piperazine scaffold is a privileged structure frequently found in biologically active compounds. Piperazine nucleus is found in many marketed drugs in the realm of antidepressants (amoxapine), antipsychotics (bifeprunox), antihistamines (cyclizine and oxatomide), antifungals (itraconazole), antibiotics (ciprofloxacin), etc. This is one of the reasons why piperazine based compounds are gaining prominence in today's research. In addition to the ring carbons, substitution in the nitrogen atom of piperazine not only creates potential drug molecules but also makes it unique with versatile binding possibilities with metal ions. Piperazine ring-based compounds find their application in biological systems with antihistamine, anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. They have also been successfully used in the field of catalysis and metal organic frameworks (MOFs). The present review focuses on the synthesis and application of different piperazine derivatives and their metal complexes having diverse applications.

Abstract
AIM AND OBJECTIVE The synthesis of bipyridines, especially 2, 2'-bipyridines, remains challenging because the catalytic cycle can be inhibited due to coordination of bipyridine to transition metal. Thus, the development of efficient methods for the synthesis of bipyridines is highly desirable. In the present work, we presented a promising approach for preparation of bipyridines via a Pd-catalyzed reductive homocoupling reaction with simple piperazine as a ligand. MATERIALS AND METHODS Simple and inexpensive piperazine was used as a ligand for Pd-catalyzed homocoupling reaction. The combination of Pd(OAc)2 and piperazine in dimethylformamide (DMF) was observed to form an excellent catalyst and efficiently catalyzed the homocoupling of azaarenyl halides, in which DMF was used as the solvent without excess reductants although stoichiometric reductant was generally required to generate the low-oxidation-state active metal species in the catalytic cycles. RESULTS In this case, good to excellent yields of bipyridines and their (hetero) aromatic analogues were obtained in the presence of 2.5 mol% of Pd(OAc)2 and 5 mol% of piperazine, using K3PO4 as a base in DMF at 140°C. CONCLUSION According to the results, piperazine as an inexpensive and efficient ligand was used in the Pd(OAc)2-catalyzed homocoupling reaction of heteroaryl and aryl halides. The coupling reaction was operationally simple and displayed good substrate compatibility.

Abstract
A multilayer film of (Pd(2+)/)10 was simply fabricated by Pd(ii) and 2-Br-2',7,7'-tri(4-pyridyl)-9,9'-spirobifluorene (, Br-tpsf) through a layer-by-layer self-assembly method. Abstract
BACKGROUND The area of biodegradable/sustainable polymers is one of increasing importance in the 21st Century due to their positive environmental characteristics. Lewis acidic metal centres are currently one of the most popular choices for the initiator for the polymerisation. Thus, in this paper we report the synthesis and characterisation of a series of monometallic homopiperazine Ti(IV) complexes where we have systematically varied the sterics of the phenol moieties. RESULTS When the ortho substituent of the ligand is either a Me, tBu or amyl then the β-cis isomer is isolated exclusively in the solid-state. Nevertheless, in solution multiple isomers are clearly observed from analysis of the NMR spectra. However, when the ortho substituent is an H-atom then the trans-isomer is formed in the solid-state and solely in solution. The complexes have been screened for the polymerisation of rac-lactide in solution and under the industrially preferred melt conditions. Narrow molecular weight material (PDI 1.07 - 1.23) is formed under melt conditions with controlled molecular weights. CONCLUSIONS Six new Ti(IV) complexes are presented which are highly active for the polymerisation. In all cases atactic polymer is prepared with predictable molecular weight control. This shows the potential applicability of Ti(IV) to initiate the polymerisations.

Abstract
Two new palladium complexes with pyrazole derived ligands 2a–2b have been easily prepared and well characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and IR spectra. Their detailed structures are determined by a single-crystal X-ray analysis of 2a. The two compounds were successfully applied to the Suzuki coupling reactions of aryl bromides with phenylboronic acid, in aqueous solution at room temperature under air, giving the desired coupled products in good to excellent yields with catalyst loadings as low as 0.01–0.05 mol-%.
