Abstract
Supramolecular chemistry and the chemistry of alkyl derivatives of the transition metals are both topics of considerable current interest, but the combination of the two fields is still underdeveloped. The challenges are, in large part, experimental in nature. For example, the self-assembly of molecules in supramolecular chemistry often relies on intermolecular hydrogen bonding, but most alkyl-transition metal bonds are cleaved by the protic groups used in hydrogen bond formation. Alkyl-platinum(IV) bonds are inert to protonolysis or attack by other electrophiles under mild conditions, and this has allowed an extensive supramolecular chemistry of organoplatinum(IV) complexes to be developed, as outlined in this perspective review. Highlights include a zeolitic structure, a polyrotaxane, a double helix, a nanotube structure and an example of spontaneous resolution to form a chiral sheet structure.

Extended Assemblies of Ru(bpy)(CO)2X2 (X = Cl, Br, I) Molecules Linked by 1,4-Diiodotetrafluoro-Benzene (DITFB) Halogen Bond Donors. CRYSTALS 2019. Abstract
The ruthenium carbonyl compounds, Ru(bpy)(CO)2X2 (X = Cl, Br or I) act as neutral halogen bond (XB) acceptors when co-crystallized with 1,4-diiodotetrafluoro-benzene (DITFB). The halogen bonding strength of the Ru-X⋅⋅⋅I halogen bonds follow the nucleophilic character of the halido ligand. The strongest halogen bond occurs between the chlorido ligand and the iodide atoms of the DITFB. All three halogen bonded complexes form polymeric assemblies in the solid state. In Ru(bpy)(CO)2Cl2⋅DITFB (1) and in Ru(bpy)(CO)2Br2⋅DITFB (2) both halido ligands are halogen bonded to only one DITFB donor. In Ru(bpy)(CO)2I2⋅DITFB (3) only one of the halido ligands is involved in halogen bonding acting as ditopic center for two DITFB donors. The polymeric structures of 1 and 2 are isomorphic wave-like single chain systems, while the iodine complexes form pairs of linear chains attached together with weak F⋅⋅⋅O≡C interactions between the closest neighbors. The stronger polarization of the iodide ligand compared to the Cl or Br ligands favors nearly linear C-I⋅⋅⋅I angles between the XB donor and the metal complex supporting the linear arrangement of the halogen bonded chain.

Abstract
The reaction of [PtMe2(6-dppd)], 1, where 6-dppd is a 1,4-bis(2-pyridyl)pyridazine derivative, with bromoalkanes BrCH2R, having a hydrogen-bond donor group R, gave the corresponding chiral products of trans oxidative addition [PtBrMe2(CH2R)(6-dppd)], 2a, R = CO2H; 3, R = 4-C6H4CO2H; 4, R = 4-C6H4CH2CO2H; 7, R = 2-C6H4CH2OH; 8, R = 4-C6H4B(OH)2; 9, R = 3-C6H4B(OH)2; and 10, R = 2-C6H4B(OH)2. Complex 2a was formed in equilibrium with two isomers formed by cis oxidative addition, while the reaction of 1 with BrCH2CH2CO2H gave mostly [PtBrMe(6-dppd)], 6. The supramolecular chemistry was studied by structure determination of six of the platinum(IV) complexes, with emphasis on the preference of the hydrogen bond acceptor (O, pyridyl N, or Br atom), formation of monomer, dimer, or polymer, and self-recognition or self-discrimination in self-assembly. Complex 7 formed a monomer with the OH···N hydrogen bond, and complexes 2a and 10 formed racemic dimers by complementary hydrogen bonding with self-discrimination between CO2H or B(OH)2 groups, respectively. Complexes 3, 4, and 9 formed polymers by intermolecular hydrogen bonding with self-recognition, with 4 containing OH···N and 3 and 9 containing OH···Br hydrogen bonds. It is concluded that there is no clear preference for the hydrogen bond acceptor group, and that the observed product depends also on the orientation of the hydrogen bond donor group.

Abstract
The half-lantern compound [{Pt(bzq)(μ-N^S)}2] (1) [bzq = benzo[h]quinoline, HN^S = 2-mercaptopyrimidine (C4H3N2HS)] reacts with CH3I and haloforms CHX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) to give the corresponding oxidized diplatinum(III) derivatives [{Pt(bzq)(μ-N^S)X}2] (X = Cl 2a, Br 2b, I 2c). These compounds exhibit half-lantern structures with short intermetallic distances (∼2.6 Å) due to Pt-Pt bond formation. The halogen abstraction mechanisms from the halocarbon molecules by the Pt2(II,II) compound 1 were investigated. NMR spectroscopic evidence using labeled reagents support that in the case of (13)CH3I the reaction initiates with an oxidative addition through an SN2 mechanism giving rise to the intermediate species [I(bzq)Pt(μ-N^S)2Pt(bzq)((13)CH3)}]. However, with haloforms the reactions proceed through a radical-like mechanism, thermally (CHBr3, CHI3) or photochemically (CHCl3) activated, giving rise to mixtures of species [X(bzq)Pt(μ-N^S)2Pt(bzq)R] (3a-c) and [X(bzq)Pt(μ-N^S)2Pt(bzq)X] (2a-c). In these cases the presence of O2 favors the formation of species 2 over 3. Transformation of 3 into 2 was possible upon irradiation with UV light. In the case of [I(bzq)Pt(μ-N^S)2Pt(bzq)((13)CH3)}] (3d), in the presence of O2 the formation of the unusual methylperoxo derivative [I(bzq)Pt(μ-N^S)2Pt(bzq)(O-O(13)CH3)}] (4d) was detected, which in the presence of (13)CH3I rendered the final product [{Pt(bzq)(μ-N^S)I}2] (2c) and (13)CH3OH.
