Abstract
The quinolone-quinoline tautomerization is harnessed to effect the regioselective C8-borylation of biologically important 4-quinolones by using [Ir(OMe)(cod)]2 as the catalyst precursor, the silica-supported monodentate phosphine Si-SMAP as the ligand, and B2 pin2 as the boron source. Initially, O-borylation of the quinoline tautomer takes place. Critically, the newly formed 4-(pinBO)-quinolines then undergo N-directed selective Ir-catalyzed borylation at C8. Hydrolysis of the OBpin moiety on workup returns the system to the quinolone tautomer. The C8-borylated quinolines were converted to their corresponding potassium trifluoroborate (BF3 K) salts and to their C8-chlorinated quinolone derivatives. The two-step C-H borylation-chlorination reaction sequence resulted in various C8-Cl quinolones in good yields. Conversion to C8-OH-, C8-NH2 -, and C8-Ar-substituted quinolones was also feasible by using this methodology.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed spirocyclization reaction is reported, which is proposed to arise via insertion of an oxabicycle into a palladacycle, formed from carbocyclization and a C-H functionalization sequence. Mechanistic studies suggest the insertion is diastereoselective and a post-catalytic retro-Diels-Alder step furnishes an alkene, wherein the oxibicycle has served as an acetylene surrogate. Aryl iodides and carbamoyl chlorides were compatible as starting materials under the same reaction conditions, enabling the convergent and complementary synthesis of spirooxindoles, as well as other azacycles. These spirooxindoles allowed further transformations that were previously unaccessible.

Abstract
In the past years, Pd0‐catalyzed C(sp3)−H activation provided efficient and step‐economical methods to synthesize carbo‐ and heterocycles via direct C(sp2)−C(sp3) bond formation. We report herein that a 1,4‐Pd shift allows access to N‐heterocycles which are difficult to build via a direct reaction. It is shown that o‐bromo‐N‐methylanilines undergo a 1,4‐Pd shift at the N‐methyl group, followed by intramolecular trapping by C(sp2)−H or C(sp3)−H activation at another nitrogen substituent and remote C−C bond formation to generate biologically relevant isoindolines and β‐lactams. The product selectivity is influenced by the employed ligand, with NHCs favoring the product of remote C−C coupling against products arising from direct C−C coupling and N‐demethylation.

Abstract
The experimental investigations on the catalyst [Cp*Rh(OAc)2 and Cp*Ir (OAc)2)]-controlled [3 + 2] and [4 + 2] annulations of oximes with propargyl alcohols have been finished in our previous work and a supposed dual directing group-mediated reaction pathway has been deduced for the chemodivergent product synthesis. However, the detailed interaction modes of the dual directing groups binding with the corresponding metal center to achieve the above observed chemoselectivity remain unclear and even contradict. For instance, the calculational traditional dual direct coupling transition states suggested that both Cp*Rh(OAc)2- and Cp*Ir(OAc)2-catalyzed reactions would generate five-membered indenamines as the dominant products via [3 + 2] annulation. To address this concern, herein, systematic DFT calculations combined with proof-of-concept experiments have been carried out. Accordingly, a novel and more favorable MIII-MV-MIII reaction mechanism, which involves an unprecedented HOAc together with a hydroxyl group-assisted reaction pathway in which the hydroxyl group acts as double effectors for the formation of M-O coordination and [MeO···H···O(CCH3)O···H···O] bonding interactions, was deduced. Taken together, the present results would provide a rational basis for future development of the dual directing group-mediated C-H activation reactions.

Abstract
Isoindolinone structure is an important privileged scaffold found in a large variety of naturally occurring as well as synthetic, biologically and pharmaceutically active compounds. Owing to its crucial role in a number of applications, the synthetic methodologies for accessing this heterocyclic skeleton have received significant attention during the past decade. In general, the synthetic strategies can be divided into two categories: First, direct utilization of phthalimides or phthalimidines as starting materials for the synthesis of isoindolinones; and second, construction of the lactam and/or aromatic rings by different catalytic methods, including C-H activation, cross-coupling, carbonylation, condensation, addition and formal cycloaddition reactions. Especially in the last mentioned, utilization of transition metal catalysts provides access to a broad range of substituted isoindolinones. Herein, the recent advances (2010-2020) in transition metal catalyzed synthetic methodologies via formation of new C-C bonds for isoindolinones are reviewed.

Abstract
Nitrogen-containing organic compounds possess the most important status in drug molecules and agricultural chemicals. More than 80% currently used drugs have at least a C-N bond. The green and mild methodology to prepare diverse C-N bonds to replace traditional harsh preparation protocols is always a hotspot in modern synthetic chemistry. TiO2-based nanomaterials, considered as environmentally benign, stable, and powerful photocatalysts, have recently been applied in some certain challenging organic synthesis including construction of useful C-N compounds under mild conditions that are impossible to complete by conventional catalysis. This mini review would present state-of-the-art paragon examples of TiO2 photocatalyzed C-N bond formations. The discussion would be divided into two main sections: (1) N-alkylation of amines and (2) C-N formation in heterocycle synthesis. Especially, the mechanism of TiO2 photocatalytic C-N bond formation through activating alcohol into C=O by photo-induced hole followed by C=NH-R formation and finally hydrogenating C=NH-R into C-N bonds by combination of photo-induced electron/H+ assisted with loaded-Pt would be covered in detail. We believe that the mini-review will bring new insights into TiO2 photocatalysis applied to construct challenging organic compounds through enabling photo-induced hole and electron in a concerted way on coupling two substrate molecules together with respect to their conventionally independent catalysis behavior.

Abstract
A general method to construct the scaffolds of dibenzooxazepine and dibenzodiazepine, through Pd-catalyzed isocyanide insertion and intramolecular C(sp2)-H activation, has been developed. This is the first example of seven-membered heterocycle formation by C-H imidoylative annulation.

Abstract
A novel methodology for the synthesis of functionalised indoles based on the cross-coupling reactions of 3-bromo-2-indolyl phosphates is described. The preparation involves the conversion of easily available 2-oxindoles to 3,3-dibromo-2-oxindoles followed by the Perkow reaction affording 3-bromo-2-indolyl phosphates. Then bromine atom is substituted regioselectively by the Suzuki coupling reaction. We observed that aluminum chloride promoted the reaction of 3-substituted-2-indolyl phosphates with organozinc reagents furnishing 2,3-disubstituted indoles as final products. The overall diversity and efficiency of the methodology was demonstrated by the synthesis of bioactive molecule from easily available substances.

Abstract
Bifunctional C2-symmetric 7,7'-dihydroxymethyl-8,8'-biquinolyl (2) was synthesized in short steps via (i) Cu/Pd-catalyzed homo coupling of 7-methyl-8-bromoquinoline and (ii) Pd(II)-catalyzed double C-H oxidation. Axial chirality of 2 and its synthetic precursor 7,7'-dimethyl-8,8'-biquinolyl (3) is stable. Optically active 2 was obtained through separation of racemic 2 by chiral column HPLC or Pd(II)-catalyzed double C-H oxidation of optically active 3. The absolute stereochemistry of enantiomers of 2 and 3 was determined using the exciton chirality method.
