Abstract
Quantitative 1H-NMR became an increasingly important issue in pharmaceutical analytical chemistry. This study used NMR spectroscopy to assay the bronchodilator drug terbutaline sulfate and its pro-drug bambuterol hydrochloride in pure form and pharmaceutical preparations. The technique proceeded using deuterium oxide (D2O) as an 1H-NMR solvent and phloroglucinol anhydrous as an internal standard (IS). Comparatively, to the phloroglucinol signal at 5.9 ppm, the resulting quantitative signals of the studied drugs were corrected. The terbutaline singlet signal at 6.3 ppm was chosen for quantification, while the bambuterol quantitative singlet signal was at 2.9 ppm. The two drugs were rectilinear over the concentration range of 1.0-16.0 mg/mL. LOD values were 0.19 and 0.21 mg/mL while LOQ values were 0.58 and 0.64 mg/mL for terbutaline and bambuterol respectively. The developed method has been validated according to the International Conference of Harmonization (ICH) regarding linearity, accuracy, precision, specificity, and robustness. A greenness profile assessment was applied, and the method proved to be green. The method enables the assay of the two drugs in pure drug and pharmaceutical preparations. The method also enables the assay of the two drugs in the presence of each other; thus, it is considered a stability-indicating method where terbutaline is an acid degradation product of bambuterol.

Abstract
A novel, simple and sensitive spectrofluorimetric approach for determination of terbutaline sulphate (TER) and its prodrug bambuterol (BAM) in their pure and pharmaceutical dosage forms was developed. The suggested approach depends on enhancing the native fluorescence of either TER or BAM at 315 and 297.2 nm after excitation at 277 and 259 nm, respectively, using sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) as a micellar media. In the presence of 0.7% w/v SDS, about 1.38-fold and 1.18-fold enhancement is achieved in the relative fluorescence intensity (RFI) of TER and BAM, respectively. The fluorescence-concentration curves were rectilinear over the concentration range of 0.8-16 μg mL-1 , with detection limits (LOD) of 0.252 and 0.26 (μg mL-1), quantitation limits (LOQ) of 0.76 and 0.79 (μg mL-1), determination coefficients (r2) of 0.9981, and slopes of 45.92 and 10.44 for TER and BAM, respectively. The suggested approach was validated in accordance with ICH criteria and was effectively applied in the analysis of the studied drugs in their commercial tablets. The high sensitivity of the proposed approach allows its application in evaluating the content uniformity testing of the studied drugs in their tablets through using the official United States Pharmacopeia criteria (USP). Statistical analogies of the findings with that of the reported methods showed really good harmony and indicated no major differences in precision and accuracy.

Abstract
Abstractβ2-Agonists (β2-adrenergic agonists, bronchodilatants, and sympathomimetic drugs) are a group of drugs that are mainly used in asthma and obstructive pulmonary diseases. In practice, the substances used to contain one or more stereogenic centers in their structure and their enantiomers exhibit different pharmacological properties. In terms of bronchodilatory activity, (R)-enantiomers showed higher activity. The investigation of stereoselectivity in action and disposition of chiral drugs together with the preparation of pure enantiomer drugs calls for efficient stereoselective analytical methods. The overview focuses on the stereoselectivity in pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of β2-agonists and summarizes the stereoselective analytical methods for the enantioseparation of racemic beta-agonists (HPLC, LC-MS, GC, TLC, CE). Some methods of the stereoselective synthesis for β2-agonists preparation are also presented.

Abstract
Since their introduction by Daniel W. Armstrong in 1994, antibiotic-based chiral stationary phases have proven their applicability for the chiral resolution of various types of racemates. The unique structure of macrocyclic glycopeptides and their large variety of interactive sites (e.g., hydrophobic pockets, hydroxy, amino and carboxyl groups, halogen atoms, aromatic moieties) are the reasons for their wide-ranging selectivity. The commercially available Chirobiotic™ phases, which display complementary characteristics, are capable of separating a broad variety of enantiomeric compounds with good efficiency, good column loadability, high reproducibility, and long-term stability. These are the major reasons for the frequent use of macrocyclic antibiotic-based stationary phases in HPLC enantioseparations.This overview chapter provides a brief summary of general aspects of antibiotic-based chiral stationary phases including their preparation and their application to direct enantioseparations of various racemates focusing on the literature published since 2004.

Abstract
A green, sensitive and cost-effective method is introduced in this research for the determination of bambuterol and its main degradation product, terbutaline, simultaneously, relying on the synchronous spectrofluorimetric technique. First derivative synchronous spectrofluorimetric amplitude is measured at Δλ = 20 nm, so bambuterol can be quantitated at 260 nm, and terbutaline can be measured at 290 nm, each at the zero crossing point of the other. The amplitude-concentration plots were linear over the concentration ranges of 0.2-6.0 µg ml-1 and 0.2-4.0 µg ml-1 for both bambuterol and terbutaline, respectively. Official guidelines were followed to calculate the validation parameters of the proposed method. The low values of limits of detection of 0.023, 0.056 µg ml-1 and limits of quantitation of 0.071, 0.169 µg ml-1 for bambuterol and terbutaline, respectively, point to the sensitivity of the method. Bambuterol is a prodrug for terbutaline, and the latter is considered its degradation product so the established method could be regarded as a stability-indicating one. Moreover, the proposed method was used for the analysis of bambuterol and terbutaline in their single ingredient preparations and the results revealed statistical agreement with the reference method. The suggested method, being a simple and low-cost procedure, is superior to the previously published methods which need more sophisticated techniques, longer analysis time and highly toxic solvents and reagents. It could be considered as an eco-friendly analytical procedure.

Abstract
Terbutaline submicron particles (SμTBS) were prepared by nanoprecipitation technique followed by spray drying for deep lungs deposition. Inhalable SμTBS particles were 645.16 nm of diameter with 0.11μm of MMAD, suggested for better aerosol effects. Both submicron and micron-sized TBS particles were administered in rodents administered via major delivery routes, and their biological effects were compared by using UHPLC/ESI-q-TOF-MS method. TBS was found stable in all exposed conditions with 96.28-99.0% of recovery and <4.34% of accuracy (CV). An inhalation device was designed and validated to deliver medicines to lungs, which was found best at dose level of 25mg for 30 min of fluidization. Both submicron and micron particles were compared for in vivo lung deposition and a 1.67 fold increase in concentration was observed for SμTBS exposed by inhalation. Optimized DPI formulation contained lesser fraction of ultrafine particle (<500 nm) with the major fraction of submicron particles (>500 nm), advocated for better targeting to lungs. UHPLC/ESI-q-TOF-MS confirmed that designed submicron particles has been successfully delivered to the lungs. From tongue to lungs, the landing of pulmonary medicines can be improved by submicronization technology.

Abstract
The adsorption of beta(2)-adrenergic agonist (βAA) drugs clenbuterol, salbutamol, and terbutaline on metal surfaces has been investigated in this work by means of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). To assist in this investigation, a previous vibrational (IR and normal Raman) characterization of these drugs was performed, supported by ab initio density functional theory calculations. The application of SERS was aimed to apply this highly sensitive technique, based on localized surface plasmon resonance, in the detection of βAA at trace concentrations and as a possible alternative method which can be postulated in routine antidoping analysis. The adsorption of these drugs was studied in depth at different experimental conditions: on Au and Ag, at different pHs, and with varying adsorbate concentration. Moreover, plasmon resonance spectroscopy was employed to investigate the adsorption of these drugs on the metal nanoparticles as well as their aggregation. It was found that the adsorption of these molecules is more effective on gold nanoparticles and at acidic pH, based on the direct interaction of the aromatic or aliphatic moieties through ionic or coordination bonds with the metal. These drugs followed a Langmuir adsorption model from which the adsorption constant and the limit of detection can be determined.
