Abstract
ABSTRACT In swimming pools, malfunctions in the pool water drainage system can result with severe injuries, or even death, and mostly children are affected by these accidents. In this case report, the death scene and postmortem examination findings of a 12-year-old girl, who was trapped by her feet in the pool water drainage system, are reported. The external examination revealed ecchymotic areas with abrasions on both lower legs and both feet, suggesting suction of both feet through the uncovered pool drainage system opening. To prevent such accidents, safety practices related to the water circulation system should be developed in swimming pools and similar areas; children should be supervised at all times; and emergency medical teams, as well as lifeguards, should be available for immediate intervention.

Abstract

Abstract
Swimming pool suction injuries are rarely encountered in forensic medicine. Infants under 8 years of age are most frequently involved in such accidents with high risk of serious injuries and fatal consequences due to drowning. We report, for the first time, a case of a 13-year-old boy trapped at the abdomen by an uncovered suction drainage hole. External examination of the body revealed a round ecchymosis which had the same diameter as the pool drain. Post-mortem examination established that death had occurred due to drowning, possibly in combination with traumatic shock from the suction mechanism involving the intestinal loops. Furthermore, this case may be remarkable as it raises other medico-legal issues regarding the safety standards at swimming pools, including pool management and lifeguard attendance. Preventative measures are needed in order to make sure this sort of injury or death does not occur. Moreover, the awareness of the occurrence of these accidents should be increased.

Abstract
Rectal prolapse is a herniation of the rectum through the anus. It is rare in children. When it does occur, it is usually prior to 4 years of age and due to anatomical variants. A few conditions predispose children to rectal prolapse, the most common being constipation. Cystic fibrosis used to be commonly associated with rectal prolapse, but with the advent of cystic fibrosis newborn screening, this association is no longer as frequently seen. Many recent case reports, detailed in this chapter, describe conditions previously unknown to be associated with rectal prolapse. Management is usually supportive; however, rectal prolapse requires surgical management in certain situations. This review details the presentation of rectal prolapse, newly described clinical manifestations, and associated conditions, and up-to-date medical and surgical management.

Abstract
Transrectal small bowel evisceration (TSBE) is a rare entity that can occur after traumatic injuries. It has been described after impalement, sexual assault, blunt abdominal trauma, and swimming pool drain suction. The authors encountered such a case in a 4-year-old by following a crush abdominal injury. A laparotomy was performed. The eviscerated bowel was pulled inside the abdominal cavity, revealing the rectal perforation. A portion of devascularized ileum was resected, a primary bowel anastomosis was performed, and the longitudinal rectal laceration was repaired with a two-layered closure. There was no fecal soilage, and no protective colostomy was performed. The mortality and morbidity of TSBE are usually related with the severity and type of trauma. The mesenteric laceration and concomitant injuries can cause significant bleeding leading to a hemorrhagic shock and multiorgan failure.

Abstract
Evisceration of the small intestine through the anus is an extremely rare event in children. We report a 2-year-old boy who sustained transanal small bowel evisceration associated with bilateral diaphragmatic rupture, left diaphragmatic herniation, and spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormality which happened after crushing by motor vehicle. We reviewed children with transanal small bowel evisceration and discussed etiological differences between children and adult. We also discussed the basic principles of management and follow up in these patients.
