Abstract
Emissive features of flavins (Riboflavin/RF, Flavin MonoNucleotide/FMN and Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide/FAD) labeled native Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) on Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-coated silver nanoparticles (SNPs), have been studied. The dual emission of flavins in DNA-PVP-coated SNPs systems is strongly influenced by the reaction time and temperature. Changes in the RF emissive features occur as a side effect when DNA is covalently linked hence, the RF destruction depends on DNA damage. Even if in an oxidation process, the FAD-DNA - PVP-coated SNPs system acts as a weak scavenger of reactive oxygen species, its antioxidant activity is approx. five times higher than that of RF-DNA-PVP-coated SNPs system. Destruction of RF by a riboflavin-mediated DNA photo-oxidation process that occurs on PVP-coated SNPs is suggested. Results have relevance in the redox process of riboflavin and provide valuable information for the further development of novel flavin-based SNPs systems as fluorescent antioxidant markers to solve several biological barriers in humans, such as protein-DNA interaction, cell binding.

Abstract
A red-emitting fluorescent Riboflavin (RF)/Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-coated silver nanoparticles system, λem = 527 nm, Φ = 0.242, with a diameter of the metallic core of 27.33 nm and a zeta potential of - 25.05 mV was prepared and investigated regarding its biological activity. We found that PVP has a key role in RF adsorption around the SNPs surface leading to an enhancement of antioxidant properties (∼70%), low cytotoxicity (> 90% cell viability, at 50 µL/mL, after 48 h of incubation) as well as to an efficient process of its cellular uptake (∼ 60%, after 24 h of incubation) in L929 cells. The results are relevant concerning the involvement of RF and its coenzymes forms in SNPs - based systems, in cellular respiration as well as for future studies as antioxidant marker system on tumoral cells for viewing and monitoring them, by cellular imaging.

Abstract
In the present work, we have developed a new indicator displacement system based on pillararene for anionic water-soluble carboxylato pillar [6] arene (WP6) and aromatic fluorescent dye safranine T (ST). A large fluorescence enhancement and colour change of ST were observed after complexation with electron-rich cavity in WP6 because of host-guest twisted intramolecular charge-transfer interactions. The constructed pillararene-indicator displacement system can be applied for caffeine selective detection in water.

Abstract
A molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor for toltrazuril (TZR) detection based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) immobilized on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) modified platinum (Pt) electrode surface was fabricated for the first time. The synergistic fast electron transfer ability, large electroactive surface area and high catalytic activity from rGO and TiO2 contribute to amplify the electrochemical signal and consequently improve the sensitivity of the sensor. The cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests were used to evaluate the performance of the electrochemical sensor. The results showed that the electrochemical sensor possessed high sensitivity, good selectivity and anti-interference ability toward TZR. By using the DPV, the electrochemical sensor displayed a wide linear concentration range from 0.43 to 42.54 μg/L, with a limit of detection of 0.21 μg/L (S/N = 3). Moreover, the recoveries and relative standard deviations (RSD) were 85.0%-97.0% and 3.5%-6.4% at three concentration levels, respectively, implying that the established sensor is promising for the accurate detection of TZR at trace levels in chicken muscle and egg samples.

Abstract
The major focus of the present work lies in exploring the influence of nanoconfinement within aerosol-OT (AOT) reverse micelles on the binding interaction of two phenazinium-based photosensitizers, namely, phenosafranin (PSF) and safranin-O (SO), with the DNA duplex. Circular dichroism and dynamic light-scattering studies reveal the condensation of DNA within the reverse micellar interior (transformation of the B-form of native DNA to ψ-form). Our results unveil a remarkable effect of the degree of hydration of the reverse micellar core on the stability of the stacking interaction (intercalation) of the drugs (PSF and SO) into DNA; increasing size of the water nanopool (that is, w 0) accompanies decreasing curvature of the DNA duplex structure with the consequent effect of increasing stabilization of the drug:DNA intercalation. The marked differences in the dynamical aspects of the interaction scenario following encapsulation within the reverse micellar core and the subsequent dependence on the size of the water nanopool are also meticulously explored. The differential degrees of steric interactions offered by the drug molecules (presence of methyl substitutions on the planar phenazinium ring in SO) are also found to affect the extent of intercalation of the drugs to DNA. In this context, it is imperative to state that the water pool of the reverse micellar core is often argued to approach bulk-like properties of water with increasing micellar size (typically w 0 ≥ 10), so that deviation from the bulk water properties is likely to be minimized in large reverse micelles (w 0 ≥ 10). On the contrary, our results (particularly quantitative elucidation of micropolarity and dynamical aspects of the interaction) explicitly demonstrate that the bulk-like behavior of the nanoconfined water is not truly achieved even in large reverse micelles.

Abstract
The interaction of a hematoxylin(HE)-Dy(Ш) complex with herring sperm DNA(hsDNA) was studied using acridine orange(AO) as a probe by UV-vis absorption, circular dichroism(CD), fluorescence spectroscopy and viscosity measurements. From the results of the probe experiment, we found that the HE-Dy(Ш) complex could compete with AO for intercalating into hsDNA. The binding constants of the HE-Dy(Ш) complex to hsDNA was obtained by the double reciprocal method and indicated that the affinity between hsDNA and the complex is weaker than that between hsDNA and classical intercalators. The thermodynamic parameters(ΔH°, ΔG°, ΔS°) were calculated from the UV-vis absorption data measured at two different temperatures. Further experimental results suggested that there exist groove binding and partial intercalation binding between hsDNA and HE-Dy(Ш) complex.

Abstract
In this paper, the riboflavin (RF) was used to study the interaction and sonodynamic damage to bovine serum albumin (BSA) by fluorescence and UV-vis spectroscopy. The results showed that the RF could efficiently bind to BSA in aqueous solution. Under ultrasonic irradiation, the RF could obviously damage the BSA. In addition, synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy revealed that the RF showed more accessible to tryptophan (Trp) residues than to tyrosine (Tyr) residues. Also, it damaged Trp residues more seriously than Tyr residues under ultrasonic irradiation. At last, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in sonodynamic process was estimated by the method of Oxidation-Extraction Spectrometry (OES). And then, several radical scavengers were used to determine the kind of ROS. It was found that at least the singlet oxygen ((1)O(2)) and hydroxyl radicals (*OH) were generated.

Abstract
The photophysics of Safranine-O (3,6-diamino-2,7-dimethyl-5 phenyl phenazinium chloride) (SfH(+)Cl(-)) was investigated in reverse micelles (RMs) of AOT (sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate) with special emphasis on the triplet state processes. The triplet is formed in its monoprotonated form, independently of the pH of the water used to prepare the RMs. While the intersystem crossing quantum yields in RMs are similar to those in organic solvents, the triplet lifetime is much longer. Since the pH in the water pool of AOT RMs is close to 5 and the triplet state of the dye is subjected to proton quenching, the long lifetime indicates that the dye resides in a region where it cannot be reached by protons during its lifetime. All the measurements indicate that the dye is localized in the interface, sensing a medium of micropolarity similar to EtOH : water (3:1) mixtures. The quenching by aliphatic amines was also investigated. While the quenching by the hydrophobic tributylamine is similar to that in methanol, the hydro-soluble triethanolamine is one order of magnitude more effective in RMs than in homogeneous solution. In the latter case the quenching process is interpreted by a very fast intramicellar quenching, the overall kinetics being controlled by the exchange of amine molecules between RMs. Semireduced dye is formed in the quenching process in RMs in the di-protonated state with a comparable quantum yield to the monoprotonated state formed in homogeneous solvents. The results point to the advantage of the reverse micellar system for the generation of active radicals for the initiation of vinyl polymerization, since a much lower concentration of amine can be employed with similar quantum yields.

Abstract
Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectra, fluorescence spectra, electrochemistry, and the thermodynamic method were used to discuss the interaction mode between the inclusion complex of hematoxylin with β-cyclodextrin and herring sperm DNA. On the condition of physiological pH, the result showed that hematoxylin and β-cyclodextrin formed an inclusion complex with binding ratio n(hematoxylin):n(β-cyclodextrin) = 1:1. The interaction mode between β-cyclodextrin-hematoxylin and DNA was a mixed binding, which contained intercalation and electrostatic mode. The binding ratio between β-cyclodextrin-hematoxylin and DNA was n(β-cyclodextrin -hematoxylin):n(DNA) = 2:1, binding constant was K(⊖)(298.15K) = 5.29 × 10⁴ L·mol⁻¹, and entropy worked as driven force in this action.

Abstract
Nucleic acids can quench resonance light scattering (RLS) intensity of the Y(III)-1,6-bi(1'-phenyl-3'-methyl-5'-pyrazolone-4'-)hexane-dione(BPMPHD) complex in the pH range 5.0-5.8. Under optimal conditions, there are linear relationships between the quenching of RLS and the concentration of nucleic acids in the range 6.3 x 10(-8)-2.1 x 10(-5) g/mL for fish sperm DNA (fsDNA), 1.2 x 10(-8)-5.0 x 10(-5) g/mL for calf thymus DNA (ctDNA) and 6.0 x 10(-8)-2.0 x 10(-5) g/mL for yeast RNA (yRNA). The detection limits (3 s) of fsDNA, ctDNA and yRNA are 0.7 ng/mL, 3.8 ng/mL and 4.2 ng/mL, respectively.
