Mixed-ligand terbium terephthalates: Synthesis, photophysical and thermal properties and use for luminescent terbium terephthalate thin film deposition

Transformation of Amorphous Terbium Metal-Organic Framework on Terbium Oxide TbOx(111) Thin Film on Pt(111) Substrate: Structure of TbxOy Film

The present study is focused on the synthesis and structural properties of amorphous terbium metal-organic framework thin film (TbMOF-TF) and its transformation to terbium oxide by pyrolysis at 450 °C in the air. The crystalline (cTbMOF) and amorphous (aTbMOF) films were prepared by solvothermal synthesis using different amounts (0.4 and 0.7 mmol) of the modulator (sodium acetate), respectively. The powders were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The varied chemical composition of the surface of TbMOFs and Tb_xO_y was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that aTbMOF had been fully transformed to a Tb₄O₇ phase with a cubic crystal structure at 450 °C. The amorphous aTbMOF-TF film was prepared by dropping a colloidal solution of amorphous precursor nanocrystals on the SiO₂/Si substrates covered with Pt as an interlayer. XPS confirmed the presence of Tb in two states, Tb³⁺ and Tb⁴⁺. The amorphous film has a rough, porous microstructure and is composed of large clusters of worm-like particles, while terbium oxide film consists of fine crystallites of cubic fluorite cF-TbO_x, c-Tb₄O_7, and c-Tb₂O₃ phases. The surface topography was investigated by a combination of confocal (CM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The amorphous film is porous and rough, which is contrast to the crystalline terbium oxide film.

Dual vis-NIR emissive bimetallic naphthoates of Eu-Yb-Gd: a new approach toward Yb luminescence intensity increase through Eu → Yb energy transfer

Homo- and heteroligand mono-, bi-, and trimetallic lanthanide naphtoates Eu_xYb_yGd_1-x-y(naph)₃(Phen)_n (n = 0, 1) were obtained and thoroughly investigated. Homoligand naphthoates of the new phase were obtained as anhydrous powders from water. The photophysical properties of the obtained compounds were studied in detail. The first example of Eu-to-Yb energy transfer was found in these systems. Careful selection of the metal ratio allowed a dual vis-NIR emissive complex with a ytterbium quantum yield of 1.5% to be obtained.

Novel Ln 3,5-dinitrobenzoates were studied; the Δ_eff value of the Yb derivative is the highest known one for binuclear complexes of this Ln.

Highly Luminescent, Water-Soluble Lanthanide Fluorobenzoates: Syntheses, Structures and Photophysics, Part I: Lanthanide Pentafluorobenzoates

Highly luminescent, photostable, and soluble lanthanide pentafluorobenzoates have been synthesized and thoroughly characterized, with a focus on Eu(III) and Tb(III) complexes as visible emitters and Nd(III) , Er(III) , and Yb(III) complexes as infrared emitters. Investigation of the crystal structures of the complexes in powder form and as single crystals by using X-ray diffraction revealed five different structural types, including monomeric, dimeric, and polymeric. The local structure in different solutions was studied by using X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) of terbium and europium complexes were 39 and 15 %, respectively; the latter value was increased almost twice by using the heterometallic complex [Tb0.5 Eu0.5 (pfb)3 (H2 O)] (Hpfb=pentafluorobenzoic acid). Due to the effectively utilized sensitization strategy (pfb)(-) →Tb→Eu, a pure europium luminescence with a PLQY of 29 % was achieved.
