Abstract
A novel [1, 2, 4]triazolo[5,1-b]quinazoline fluorescent probe (VIi) for Fe3+ was developed, featuring with rapid response (< 5 s) and specific selectivity to Fe3+, low detection limit (1.3 × 10-5 M), as well as the ability to resist interference of chelating agent (e.g. EDTA). VIi-based fluorescent test paper can quickly recognize Fe3+ under irradiation at the wavelength of 365 nm. The fluorescence probe VIi has potential application prospects for the detection of Fe3+ in real circumstance.

Abstract
A quinoline-based small molecular probe, H2L was designed, synthesized and characterized by different spectroscopic methods. It was utilized as a multi-responsive probe for the detection of Fe3+, Al3+, Cu2+ and PPi. It showed very selective instant turn-on fluorimetric response towards Fe3+and Al3+ with a detection limit in nanomolar range. Solutions of H2L containing Fe3+ or Al3+ could sequentially sense PPi by a turn-off mechanism. Also, H2L could determine the presence of Cu2+ very selectively among a series of other metal ions by a sharp change in colour. Detection of Cu2+ through colorimetry was further investigated by systematic UV-Vis studies and the potential of H2L to act as a potential colorimetric sensor for Cu2+ was suitably established. Filter-paper strip experiments were conducted to demonstrate the practical utility of the proposed sensor. Potential applications of H2L as a sensor for pH in the acidic range has also been explored.

Abstract
HIGHLIGHTS The synthetic strategies and fundamental mechanisms of various asymmetric carbon- and silica-based nanomaterials were systematically summarized. The advantages of asymmetric structure on their related applications were clarified by some representative applications of asymmetric carbon- and silica-based nanomaterials. The future development prospects and challenges of asymmetric carbon- and silica-based nanomaterials were proposed. ABSTRACT Carbon- and silica-based nanomaterials possess a set of merits including large surface area, good structural stability, diversified morphology, adjustable structure, and biocompatibility. These outstanding features make them widely applied in different fields. However, limited by the surface free energy effect, the current studies mainly focus on the symmetric structures, such as nanospheres, nanoflowers, nanowires, nanosheets, and core–shell structured composites. By comparison, the asymmetric structure with ingenious adjustability not only exhibits a larger effective surface area accompanied with more active sites, but also enables each component to work independently or corporately to harness their own merits, thus showing the unusual performances in some specific applications. The current review mainly focuses on the recent progress of design principles and synthesis methods of asymmetric carbon- and silica-based nanomaterials, and their applications in energy storage, catalysis, and biomedicine. Particularly, we provide some deep insights into their unique advantages in related fields from the perspective of materials’ structure–performance relationship. Furthermore, the challenges and development prospects on the synthesis and applications of asymmetric carbon- and silica-based nanomaterials are also presented and highlighted. [Image: see text]

Abstract
A new fluorescence chemosensor based on (Z)-2-(1-(3-oxo-3H-benzo[f]chromen-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide (CEHC) has been developed for the determination of Fe(iii) in drinking water. The optimum conditions were acetate buffer solution with a pH 5.0. In this approach, the determination of Fe(iii) is based on static quenching of the luminescence of the probe upon increasing concentrations of Fe(iii). The CEHC sensor binds Fe(iii) in a 1 : 1 stoichiometry with a binding constant Ka = 1.30 × 104 M−1. CEHC responds to Fe(iii) in a way that is more sensitive, selective, and quick to turn off the fluorescence than to other heavy metal ions. Selectivity was proved against seven other metal ions (Mn(ii), Al(iii), Cu(ii), Ni(ii), Zn(ii), Pb(ii), and Cd(ii)). The calibration curve was constructed based on the Stern–Volmer equation. The linear range was 2.50–150 μM with the correlation coefficient of 0.9994, and the LOD was 0.76 μM. The method was successfully applied to determine Fe(iii) in drinking water samples, and the accuracy of the chemosensor was validated by atomic absorption spectrometry. A new fluorescence chemosensor based on (Z)-2-(1-(3-oxo-3H-benzo[f]chromen-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazine-1-carbothioamide (CEHC) has been developed for the determination of the fluorescence probe of Fe(iii) in drinking water.![]()

Fluorescence quenching based detection of nitroaromatics using luminescent triphenylamine carboxylic acids. Sci Rep 2021; 11:19324. Abstract
Detection of nitroaromatics employing greener techniques has been one of the most active research fields in chemistry. A series of triphenylamine (TPA) functionalized carboxylic acids were synthesized and characterized using various spectroscopic techniques including single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The interaction of carboxylic acid-decorated TPAs with nitroaromatic compounds was photophysically explored using absorption and emission spectroscopy. Stern–Volmer plot accounts for the appreciable quenching constant of the TPA-acids. Density functional theory calculations were carried out to study the new compounds' frontier molecular orbital energy levels and the possible interactions with picrate anion and revealed an unusual charge transfer interaction between acids and picrate anion. The contact mode detection shows the TPA-acids can be used as dip-strip sensors for picric acid detection.

Enhanced Luminescence Based Response towards pH in Highly Acidic Environments by the Silver Nanoparticles and Ionic Liquids. J Fluoresc 2019; 29:549-567. Abstract
Correct measurement of the pH in highly acidic environments is still a challenge. In such conditions most of the pH indicators suffer from instability in air or leaching from host matrices due to the solubility considerations. In this work, two different fluorescent probes were used along with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and ionic liquid (IL) in the polymeric matrices for sensing of the pH in harsh conditions. The pH sensitivities of the probes were tested after exposure to strong acid vapors by steady-state, lifetime based and kinetic mode measurements. The sensing materials were fabricated in form of thin films and electrospun nanofibers. The ionic liquid; 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate was exploited as additive to enhance the stability as well as response towards pH. Spectral changes were tested in a large scale; between pH 3.00-12.00. Utilization of the dyes in ethyl cellulose and polymethyl methacrylate along with AgNPs in form of electrospun fibers resulted in many advantages such as enhanced long term stability, sensitivity and improvement in all sensor dynamics. Sensing characteristics of the offered designs were tested after exposed to vapors of HCl, H2SO4 and HNO3, respectively.

Abstract
The neodymium(III) complexes with 2-methyl-5-phenylpenten-1-3,5-dione and allyl-3-oxo-butanoate were synthesized. The polycomplexes on their basis and copolymers with styrene and N-vinylcarbazole in ratio 5:95 were obtained by free-radical polymerization. The results of above studies have shown that the configuration of the chelate unit is unchanged during the polymerization. As a result, the type of coordination was determined and the structure of coordination polyhedra was assumed. The luminescence spectra of obtained metallocomplexes and polymers in solutions and solid state are investigated and analyzed.
