A fast-responsive two-photon fluorescent probe for detecting palladium(0) with a large turn-on fluorescence signal

A novel "turn-on" NIR fluorescent probe based on benzothianone for the detection of palladium species and its application in cell and zebrafish

The development of an efficient palladium probe holds significant application value, considering the detrimental impact of palladium contaminants on human health. Thus, it is critical to create a sensitive detection method. To this end, a fluorescent probe TM-TPA-Pd based on benzothianone structure was designed, using allyl carbonate as the Pd0 recognition unit. TM-TPA-Pd exhibited high sensitivity (1.4 eq), selectivity, near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence (798 nm), and low detection limit (0.46 μM) for Pd0 with a rapid "turn-on" fluorescence signal (5 min). Furthermore, TM-TPA-Pd has extremely low cytotoxicity and has been successfully applied to detecting cells and zebrafish, which has great potential for palladium detection in biological systems.

A perspective of microemulsions in critical metal separation and recovery: Implications for potential application of CO2-responsive microemulsions

Since the discovery of microemulsions, they have attracted great attention due to its unique properties, such as ultra-low interfacial tension and nanoscale droplets. During the past several decades, microemulsions have shown unparalleled advantages in critical metal separation and recovery, e.g., high separation rate, high recovery efficiency, and good selectivity. Therefore, fundamental understandings of such metal recovery behavior are of great significance for the continuous development of microemulsion-based separation technology in this field. Herein, we first systematically reviewed the application of regular microemulsion in the separation and recovery process of critical metals focusing on their separation mechanisms. Then, we summarized the recent progress of CO2-responsive microemulsions and highlighted their potential application in critical metal separation and recovery, aiming to provide some insights into alleviating the difficulties in demulsification during the stripping stage using regular microemulsions. In this section, the latest development of CO2-responsive microemulsions is introduced, and the relationship between their composition, microstructure and macroscopic properties is discussed. Discussion and future perspectives are provided highlighting the design of new microemulsions and potential application of CO2-responsive microemulsions for metal separation and recovery in the future.

A highly selective and sensitive boronic acid-based sensor for detecting Pd2+ ion under mild conditions

Herein, a boronic acid-based sensor was reported selectively to recognize Pd²⁺ ion. The fluorescence intensity increased 36-fold after sensor binding with 2.47 × 10^-5 M of Pd²⁺ ion. It was carried out in the 99% aqueous solution for binding tests, indicating sensor having good water solubility. In addition, it is discernible that Pd²⁺ ion turned on the blue fluorescence of sensor under a UV-lamp (365 nm), while other ions (Ag⁺, Al³⁺, Ba²⁺, Ca²⁺, Cr²⁺, Cd²⁺, Co²⁺, Cs²⁺, Cu²⁺, Fe²⁺, Fe³⁺, K⁺, Li⁺, Mg²⁺, Mn²⁺, Na⁺, Ni²⁺ and Zn²⁺) did not show the similar change. Furthermore, sensor has a low limit of detection (38 nM) and high selectivity, which exhibits the potential for the development of Pd²⁺ recognition in practical environments.

Development of a FRET-based ratiometric fluorescent probe to monitor the changes in palladium(ii) in aqueous solution and living cells

We have developed a new small-molecule based, mitochondrial-targeted ratiometric fluorescent palladium(ii) probe (CR-Pd). Fluorescence imaging shows that CR-Pd is suitable for the ratiometric visualization of palladium(ii) in living cells.
