Plasmonic Ag coated BiOBr0.2I0.8 nanosheets grown on graphene with excellent visible-light photocatalytic activity

Photocatalytic assessed adsorptive removal of tinidazole from aqueous environment using reduced magnetic graphene oxide-bismuth oxychloride and its silver composite

Antibiotics (tinidazole (TNZ)) in wastewater, exhibit adverse effects on humans and ecosystem. The current study was aimed to synthesize photocatalysts mrGO/BiOCl and mrGO/BiOCl/Ag. mrGO was coupled with BiOCl by hydrothermal method and Ag was deposited over it. The synthesized mrGO/BiOCl and mrGO/BiOCl/Ag were confirmed by Pzc analysis (5.5 and 4.4 for mrGO/BiOCl and mrGO/BiOCl/Ag, respectively), surface area analysis (380 m² g^-1, 227.7 m² g^-1, 220 m² g^-1 for mrGO, mrGO/BiOCl and mrGO/BiOCl/Ag respectively), elemental analysis (Ag, O, Bi, Fe), surface morphology (rough ball like sphere of mrGO/BiOCl and cubic Ag nanoparticles in mrGO/BiOCl/Ag), functional groups and band gap (Eg) determination. The Eg was determined using Kubelka-Munk equation as 3.5 and 2.8 eV for mrGO/BiOCl and mrGO/BiOCl/Ag respectively. During the adsorption study, the best experimental conditions for various operating parameters such as pH (2), contact time (5 min for mrGO/BiOCl and 10 min for mrGO/BiOCl/Ag under UV irradiation), TNZ concentration (18 μgL^-1) and catalyst dosage (0.001 g) were achieved. Kinetic study revealed that both composites followed pseudo second order kinetics (R² = 0.9979 and 0.9986, respectively). Data of rGO/BiOCl was fitted to Freundlich adsorption model (R² = 0.9687) and rGO/BiOCl/Ag fitted to Langmuir adsorption model (R² = 0.9994). Moreover, thermodynamic parameters confirmed that a photodegradation phenomenon was spontaneous and exothermic. The results confirmed that rGO/BiOCl and rGO/BiOCl/Ag are appropriate composites for TNZ removal from the aqueous environment with removal efficiency of 97 and 24%, respectively.

Synthesis and Enhanced Light Photocatalytic Activity of Modulating Band BiOBrXI1-X Nanosheets

The photocatalysis technique has been proven to be a promising method to solve environmental pollution in situations of energy shortage, and has been intensively investigated in the field of pollutant degradation. In this work, a band structure-controlled solid solution of BiOBr_XI_1−X (x = 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 1.00) with highly efficient light-driven photocatalytic activities was successfully synthesized via simple solvothermal methods. The phase composition, crystal structure, morphology, internal molecular vibration, optical properties, and energy band structure were characterized and analyzed by XRD, SEM, HRTEM, XPS, Raman, and UV Vis DRS. To evaluate the photocatalytic activity of BiOBr_XI_1−X, rhodamine B was selected as an organic pollutant. In particular, BiOBr_0.15I_0.85 displayed significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity by virtue of modulating the energy band position, optimizing redox potentials, and accelerating carrier separation. Moreover, the enhancement mechanism was elucidated on the basis of band structure engineering, which provides ideas for the design of highly active photocatalysts for practical application in the fields of environmental issues and energy conservation.

Efficient decolorization of Methylene Blue catalyzed by MgFe-layered double hydroxides in the presence of hydrogen peroxide

MgFe-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were prepared by co-precipitation method with the ratios of [Mg²⁺]/[Fe³⁺] varied in the range of 2:1-6:1, and occupied as heterogeneous catalysts for the degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) in the Fenton process. MgFe-LDH prepared with the ratio of [Mg²⁺]/[Fe³⁺] at 3:1 was verified to be of high purity. The Fenton-like process catalyzed by MgFe-LDH performed excellently, and more than 97% degradation of MB was obtained with 0.5 mmol/L H₂O₂ and 0.50 g/L MgFe-LDH at initial pH 2 at room temperature. The occurrence of hydroxyl radicals (·OH) was detected and the mechanism was proposed. MgFe-LDH is of excellent catalytic activity and good reusability.

Review on nanoscale Bi-based photocatalysts

Nanoscale Bi-based photocatalysts are promising candidates for visible-light-driven photocatalytic environmental remediation and energy conversion. However, the performance of bulk bismuthal semiconductors is unsatisfactory. Increasing efforts have been focused on enhancing the performance of this photocatalyst family. Many studies have reported on component adjustment, morphology control, heterojunction construction, and surface modification. Herein, recent topics in these fields, including doping, changing stoichiometry, solid solutions, ultrathin nanosheets, hierarchical and hollow architectures, conventional heterojunctions, direct Z-scheme junctions, and surface modification of conductive materials and semiconductors, are reviewed. The progress in the enhancement mechanism involving light absorption, band structure tailoring, and separation and utilization of excited carriers, is also introduced. The challenges and tendencies in the studies of nanoscale Bi-based photocatalysts are discussed and summarized.

Enhanced photocatalytic performance and stability of visible-light-driven Z-scheme CdS/Ag/g-C3N4 nanosheets photocatalyst

A novel Z-scheme CdS/Ag/g-C₃N₄ nanosheets photocatalyst was synthesized by combining the hydrothermal and photo-deposition techniques, where Ag nanoparticles as carrier transport channels significantly improve the separation efficiency of electron–hole pairs.
