Curcuminoid Chalcones: Synthesis, Stability, and New Neuroprotective and Sonosensitising Activities. Pharmaceuticals (Basel) 2023; 16:1331. Abstract
The primary purpose of this work was to design and obtain a series of curcuminoid chalcone-NSAID hybrid derivatives. The ester-type hybrid compounds with ibuprofen (i), ketoprofen (ii), and naproxen (iii) were obtained in two ways, using the Claisen-Schmidt reaction and the Steglich esterification reaction. The designed molecules were successfully synthesised, and FT-IR, MS, and NMR spectroscopy confirmed their structures. Moreover, the cytotoxic effect of the sonodynamic therapy and the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticholinergic properties of some curcuminoid chalcones and curcuminoid chalcones hybrids were evaluated. The curcuminoid chalcone derivatives showed promising neuroprotective activity as sonosensitisers for sonodynamic therapy in the studied cell lines. Additionally, the stability of the ester-type hybrid compounds with promising activity was determined. The RP-HPLC method was used to observe the degradation of the tested compounds. Studies have shown that structural isomers of ester-type hybrid compounds (3ai, 3bi) are characterised by a similar susceptibility to degradation factors, i.e., they are extremely unstable in alkaline environments, very unstable in acidic environments, unstable in neutral environments, practically stable in oxidising environments, and photolabile in solutions and in the solid phase. These compounds maintain adequate stability in environment at pH 1.2 and 6.8, which may make them good candidates for developing formulations for oral administration.

Abstract
In this study, the novel peripherally (5-7) and non-peripherally (9-11) metallo (zinc, magnesium and lead) phthalocyanine derivatives were synthesized from their (E)-4-(4-bromo-2-(3-oxo-3-o-tolyprop-1-enyl)phenoxy) substituted phthalonitrile precursors (4 and 8). These novel phthalocyanine derivatives including chalcone groups were characterized by spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, UV-vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MALDI-TOF mass spectra. In the next stage, the photophysical and photochemical properties of synthesized compounds were searched in DMSO which is not cause toxic effects at a certain concentration in biological applications. As a result of investigations, it was determined that phthalocyanine complexes did not demonstrate aggregation in DMSO solutions.

Abstract
The structural elucidation and syntheses methods of new peripherally tetra-substituted MPcs [CuII(6), CoII(7), MnCIIII(8), and NiII(9) phthalocyanines] carrying 4-methyl-N-(3-morpholinopropyl)benzenesulfonamide moieties were reported in the present study. The corroboration of the prepared compounds (3, 5, and 6 to 9) was made by LC-TOF/MS, UV-Vis, Fourier Infrared, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MALDI-TOF mass spectral data. Herein, we submit a new procedure that uses metallophthalocyanine complexes for the first time as spectrofluorimetric agents to detect and determine health-threatening food additive, Sudan II dye, with a new simpler, cheaper, and faster spectrofluorimetric method instead of time-consuming and expensive HPLC processes. Furthermore, the sensitivities of the proposed methods are good enough to determine the amount of dye at a concentration of 0.1 mg/L. The methods have LOD values between 0.035 and 0.050 mg/L. The linear ranges are found to be between 0 and 8.3 mg/L. The precision of the methods is determined to be between 1.1 and 2.4 as % RSD. Therefore, this study would make a good contribution to the food industry and phthalocyanine chemistry by detecting and determining the hazardous food colorant Sudan II with metal phthalocyanines.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chalcones are structurally simple compounds that are easily accessible by synthetic methods. Heterocyclic chalcones have gained the interest of scientists due to their diverse biological activities. The anti-tumor activities of heterocyclic chalcones are especially remarkable and the growing number of publications dealing with this topic warrants an up-to-date compilation. METHODS Search for antitumor active heterocyclic chalcones was carried out using Pubmed and Scifinder as common web-based literature searching tools. Pertinent and current literature was covered from 2015/2016 to 2019. Chemical structures, biological activities and modes of action of anti-tumor active heterocyclic chalcones are summarized. RESULTS Simply prepared chalcones have emerged over the last years with promising antitumor activities. Among them, there are a considerable number of tubulin polymerization inhibitors. But there are also new chalcones targeting special enzymes such as histone deacetylases or with DNA-binding properties. CONCLUSION This review provides a summary of recent heterocyclic chalcone derivatives with distinct antitumor activities.

Abstract
The synthesis of novel metallophthalocyanines (M = Zn, Mg, and Co) derived from ( E)-3-(3-bromophenyl)-1-(3-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one and ( E)-3-(3-fluorophenyl)-1-(3-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one is achieved. These complexes and the synthesized novel phthalonitrile derivatives are characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV-Vis, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The aggregation properties of the metallophthalocyanines ZnPc, MgPc, and CoPc are investigated in different solvents and at different concentrations in dimethyl formamide. The electrochemical behavior is also investigated. The cyclic voltammograms give one oxidation reaction for all the bromo-derived metallophthalocyanines and one reduction reaction for all the fluoro-derived metallophthalocyanines. Fe3+, Cd2+, Hg2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, and Co2+ ions are titrated fluorometrically with the phthalocyanines. The bromo- and fluoro-substituted phthalocyanine compounds show different effects on the metal ion titrations.

Abstract
In this study, the synthesis and characterization of novel 4-chloro-5-((2,3-dihydrobenzo-1,4-benzodioxin-2-yl)methoxy)phthalonitrile (1) and its peripherally octa-substituted Zn(II) (Pc-Zn), In(III) (PcInCI) and Mg(II) (Pc-Mg) phthalocyanine (Pc) derivatives are reported for the first time. FT-IR, elemental analysis, UV-vis, NMR and MS techniques were used for characterization studies of the compounds. Aggregation properties of the compounds were evaluated in DMF, DMSO and THF solvents in different concentrations, and the compounds did not tend to aggregate in these solvents. In addition, photophysicochemical properties such as fluorescence, photodegradation and singlet oxygen quantum yield of the compounds were examined in DMSO, DMF and THF solvents to show the potential use of these novel compounds as photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy (PDT). The effects of zinc, indium and magnesium metals, octa substitutions in peripheral positions and different types of solvents on photophysicochemical properties were investigated. The singlet oxygen quantum yield values of compounds ranged from 0.27 to 0.77 in different solvents. As a result of the photophysicochemical properties, these compounds can be considered as potential candidates for PDT, applications.

Abstract
Novel peripherally and non-peripherally 3-methylindole-substituted zinc phthalocyanine derivatives were synthesized as photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy in cancer treatment. The photophysical, photochemical and photobiological properties of targeted phthalocyanines were also investigated. For this purpose, the fluorescence and singlet oxygen quantum yields, and fluorescence lifetime values of the final compounds were determined in DMF solutions. The phototoxicity and cytotoxicity of the phthalocyanine complexes were tested against the invasive human breast cancer cell line (MDA-MB-231) for determination of their photosensitizing ability in the area of photodynamic therapy. It was revealed that while peripherally 3-methylindole-substituted phthalocyanine was found to be toxic for cells in both dark and light conditions, its non-peripherally substituted phthalocyanine analogue significantly caused cell death following light irradiation. A preliminary assay suggested that the non-peripherally linked phthalocyanine could be a suitable candidate for cancer treatment via photodynamic therapy techniques.
