A colorimetric and fluorescent probe based on diarylethene for dual recognition of Cu2+ and CO32- and its application

The highly selective and sensitive fluorescence probe for detection of copper (II) ions and its bioimaging in vitro and vivo

We designed and developed the probe W-3 for detection of Cu2+. The results showed probe can selectively detect Cu2+, accompanied by noticeable color change. The probe can detect the Cu2+ in water samples and drinks based on absorption detection. In addition, the combination of portable test paper and the smartphone platform obtained great convenience for on-site and visual detection of Cu2+, with satisfactory sensitivity and reliability. More importantly, the fluorescence probe W-3 can be used for the detection of Cu2+ in cells and mice. Therefore, the W-3 provided potential chemical tools for detecting Cu2+ in vitro and vivo.

A symmetric bis(salamo)-like fluorescent chemosensor for identifying HCO3- and CO32- and its application

In this work, we successfully designed and synthesized a methoxydisubstituted bis(salamo)-type fluorescent chemical sensor BS, which can be applied as a highly sensitive and selective fluorescence probe for HCO3- and CO32- detection. The LODs of HCO3- and CO32- were experimentally calculated to be 5.4068 × 10-8 M and 4.4517 × 10-8 M, respectively. After relevant experiments, the sensing mechanism was investigated. Moreover, the application of the sensor in practice is explored, and the sensor BS can be loaded on portable test strips for ion detection. In the field of ion detection, salamo-like chemical sensors have been less studied compared to other sensor molecules, especially for the recognition and detection of anions. Therefore, this study will to some extent contribute to expanding the application of salamo-like compounds.

Configuration of super-fast Cu2+-responsive chemosensor by attaching diaminomaleonitrile to BODIPY scaffold for high-contrast fluorescence imaging of living cells

A highly fluorescent Cu2+-responsive sensor, 2-amino-3-(BODIPYmethyleneamino)maleonitrile (BD) was constructed by attaching diaminomaleonitrile to a BODIPY scaffold. Cu2+ can be selectively recognized on a 2-s time-scale by way of fluorescence emission. When Cu2+ and BD coexist in solution, typical BODIPY emission was observed and the emission intensity could be increased to 334 times that of the blank dye solution. The mechanism of fluorescence increase is based on the generation of highly fluorescent species by Cu2+-triggered oxidative cyclization of the attached diaminomaleonitrile. The absolute fluorescence quantum yield (AFQY) of the cyclization product is 98% determined by integrating sphere. The highly emissive character can be attributed to the imidazole ring and dicarbonitrile on the BODIPY scaffold. It surpasses the meso-phenyl substituted analogue in AFQY and detection limits (DL). The specific Cu2+ recognition behavior was also validated in Hela cells with high-contrast fluorescence images.

Colorimetric Detection of Cu2+ and Ag+ Ions Using Multi-Responsive Schiff Base Chemosensor: A Versatile Approach for Environmental Monitoring

In this study, we have synthesized a novel Schiff base-centered chemosensor, designated as SB, with the chemical name ((E)-1-(((6-methylbenzo[d]thiazol-2-yl) imino)methyl)naphthalen-2-ol). This chemosensor was structurally characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. After structural characterization the chemosensor SB was subsequently employed for the detection of Cu2+ and Ag+, using fluorescence spectroscopy. The chemosensor SB showed excellent ability to recognize the target metal ions, leading to fluorescence enhancement and color change from yellow to yellowish orange for Cu2+ and yellow to radish for Ag+ ions. The detection capabilities of this chemosensor were impressive, showing excellent selectivity and an exceptionally low detection limit of 0.0016 µM for Cu2+ and 0.00389 µM for Ag+. Most notably, our approach enables the quantitative detection both metal ions in different water and soil samples at trace level. This achievement holds great promise for analytical applications and offers significant contributions to the field of chemical sensing and environmental protection.

A novel diarylethene-based fluorescence sensor for Zn2+ detection and its application

A series of fluorometric sensors of Zn2+ have been synthesized due to the significant function of Zn2+ in the human body and environment. However, most of probes reported for detecting Zn2+ have high detection limit or low sensitivity. In this paper, an original Zn2+ sensor, namely 1o, was synthesized by diarylethene and 2-aminobenzamide. When Zn2+ was added, the fluorescence intensity of 1o increased by 11 times within 10 s, along with a fluorescence color change from dark to bright blue, and the detection limit (LOD) was calculated to be 0.329 μM. According to Job's plot curves, the binding mode of 1o and Zn2+ was measured as 1:1, which was further proved by 1H NMR spectra, HRMS and FT-IR spectra. The logic circuit was designed to take advantage of the fact that the fluorescence intensity of 1o can be controlled by Zn2+, EDTA, UV and Vis. In addition, Zn2+ in actual water samples were tested, in which the recovery rate of Zn2+ was between 96.5 % and 109 %. Furthermore, 1o was successfully made into a fluorescent test strip, which could be used to detect Zn2+ in the environment economically and conveniently.
