Degradation of Pesticides Using Semiconducting and Tetrapyrrolic Macrocyclic Photocatalysts-A Concise Review

Exposure to pesticides is inevitable in modern times, and their environmental presence is strongly associated to the development of various malignancies. This challenge has prompted an increased interest in finding more sustainable ways of degrading pesticides. Advanced oxidation processes in particular appear as highly advantageous, due to their ability of selectively removing chemical entities form wastewaters. This review provides a concise introduction to the mechanisms of photochemical advanced oxidation processes with an objective perspective, followed by a succinct literature review on the photodegradation of pesticides utilizing metal oxide-based semiconductors as photosensitizing catalysts. The selection of reports discussed here is based on relevance and impact, which are recognized globally, ensuring rigorous scrutiny. Finally, this literature review explores the use of tetrapyrrolic macrocyclic photosensitizers in pesticide photodegradation, analyzing their benefits and limitations and providing insights into future directions.

Metal complexes of 5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)-20-pyrrolyl N-confused porphyrin and its meso-pyrrolyl-bridged dimers: Synthesis and optical properties

Inner- and peripheral-metal complexation behaviors of 5,10,15-tris(pentafluorophenyl)-20-pyrrolyl N-confused porphyrin (5) and its meso-pyrrolyl-bridged dimers (6-Ni and 7-Ni) were studied in this work. The resulting inner-Ag and peripheral-BF2 complex (5-AgBF[Formula: see text] exhibited the bathochromically shifted absorption feature ([Formula: see text]772 nm), which was attributed to the BF2 complexation. Furthermore, the bis-Ag/Ni complexes of dimer (6-Ag[Formula: see text]Ni and 7-Ag[Formula: see text]Ni) revealed remarkably lower energy bands in the deeper near-infrared ([Formula: see text] NIR-II) region ([Formula: see text] = 1226 and 1042 nm, respectively) through strong interchromophore interactions.

Spectrophotometric-chemometrics study of the effect of solvent composition and temperature on the spectral shape and shift of copper and nickel phthalocyanines in different aqueous-nonaqueous mixed solvents

Phthalocyanines (Pcs) are green-blue colored aromatic macrocyclic compounds used extensively in the dyeing industry. The assembly phenomenon for dye molecules is directly traceable by most of the spectroscopic methods. In this investigation, the monomer-dimer equilibria of copper and nickel phthalocyanines tetra sulfonic acid tetrasodium salts (CuPcTS, NiPcTS) have been investigated by spectrophotometric and chemometrics methods in binary mixtures of H₂O-DMSO and H₂O-CH₃CN. The dimerization constants, (K_D), enthalpies and entropies of CuPcTS and NiPcTS have been calculated by studying the UV-Vis spectra at different concentrations of dyes (10^-6 to 10^-4molL) and in the temperature range 298-343 K and in some samples up to 353 K by multivariate curve resolution (mcr) methods. By increasing the temperature, the value of K_D decreases. The inverse temperature dependence of K_D (van't Hoff equation) was used for determination of ΔH ⁰ and ΔS ⁰and following that ΔG ⁰of the dimerization reactions. As a result, upon aggregation, an increase in the intensity of the new shoulder at (~600 nm) and the Q-band at (662-670 nm) and concomitant decrease of the dimer band at (630-624 nm) are observed for all of the samples in different solvents composition. Therefore, the H-dimer type of these pigments was notable, in studied binary solvents. The effect of the solvent composition, concentration dye, and temperature on the spectral responses, the exciton parameters and concentration distribution diagrams of the two pigments were studied and discussed. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations were done in the aqueous and gas phase that they were included the HOMO-LUMO energies and the simulated UV-Vis spectrum. These calculations were beneficial for studying the UV-Vis spectrum of it in the aqueous phase for checking experimental data.

A New Tool in the Quest for Biocompatible Phthalocyanines: Palladium Catalyzed Aminocarbonylation for Amide Substituted Phthalonitriles and Illustrative Phthalocyanines Thereof

The amide peptide bond type linkage is one of the most natural conjugations available, present in many biological synthons and pharmaceutical drugs. Hence, aiming the direct conjugation of potentially biologically active compounds to phthalocyanines, herein we disclose a new strategy for direct modulation of phthalonitriles, inspired by an attractive synthetic strategy for the preparation of carboxamides based on palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation of aryl halides in the presence of carbon monoxide (CO) which, to our knowledge, has never been used to prepare amide-substituted phthalonitriles, the natural precursors for the synthesis of phthalocyanines. Some examples of phthalocyanines prepared thereof are also reported, along with their full spectroscopic characterization and photophysical properties initial assessment.
