Abstract
Testicular torsion is a urological emergency that involves the twisting of the spermatic cord along its course. Compelling pieces of evidence have implicated oxidative stress-sensitive signaling in pathogenesis of testicular I/R injury. Although, surgical detorsion is the mainstay management; blockade of the pathways involved in the pathogenesis may improve the surgical outcome. Experimental studies using various testicular I/R models have been reported in a bid to explore the mechanisms associated with testicular I/R and evaluate the benefits of potential therapeutic measures; however, most are limited by their shortcomings. Thus, this review was intended to describe the details of the available testicular I/R models as well as their merits and drawbacks, the pathophysiological basis and consequences of testicular I/R, and the pharmacological agents that have being proposed to confer testicular benefits against testicular I/R. This provides an understanding of the pathophysiological events and available models used in studying testicular I/R. In addition, this research provides evidence-based molecules with therapeutic potentials as well as their mechanisms of action in testicular I/R.

Abstract
Background Testicular torsion causes ischemic injury, and torsion causes reperfusion injury. Aim Evaluating the role of augmenter of liver regeneration (ALR) in testicular ischemia and ischemia/reperfusion injury. Materials and Method(s) Seventy-eight (78) healthy Wistar albino male rats were randomly divided into four groups; control (C) (n = 6), sham (S) (n = 24), torsion (T) (n = 24), and torsion/detorsion (T/D) (n = 24). S, T, and T/D groups were divided into four subgroups (n = 6) as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th hours. Blood, tissue ALR, and histology analyses were performed between groups and subgroups. Results The increase in plasma ALR values at the 3rd and 4th hours compared to the 1st hour in the T group were significant (P < 0.01, P < 0.001, respectively). In the T/D group, a significant increase was observed in plasma ALR values at the 3rd and 4th hours compared to the 1st hour (P < 0.05, P < 0.001, respectively). Plasma ALR values at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th hours were higher in the T and T/D groups than in the C group (P < 0.001, P < 0.05, respectively). Plasma ALR values were higher in the T group at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th hours than in the S group (P < 0.05). A significant increase was observed in tissue ALR at the 3rd and 4th hours than at the 1st hour in the T group (P < 0.05, P < 0.001, respectively). A significant increase was observed in tissue ALR at the 3rd and 4th hours than in the 1st hour in the T/D group (P < 0.05, P < 0.001, respectively). Discussion ALR in plasma and testicular tissue has a potential role in the early diagnosis of testicular torsion and in predicting the prognosis of T and T/D.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of aerobic exercise (AE) training and/or oyster peptide (OP) supplementation on the formation of late-onset hypogonadism (LOH). AE training and/or OP supplement was performed during Cytoxan (CTX)-induced LOH formation in male SD rats for 6 consecutive weeks. Low dose of CTX could decrease mating times, the levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), total testosterone (TT), free testosterone (FT) in serum and TT, androgen receptor (AR), androgen binding protein (ABP), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in testicle, but increase capture latency, mating latency, and malondialdehyde, and downregulate the mRNA expression of steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR), P450 cholesterol side chain cleavage enzyme (P450scc), and StAR-related lipid transfer domain 7 (StARD7) in testicle. Every change was altered by AE training combined with OP supplement significantly, except for serum LH. Moreover, the effect of AE training combined with OP supplement was better than that of AE training on serum TT, FSH, testicular TT, mating latency, capture times, and mating times. AE training combined with OP supplement during CTX-induced LOH formation can prevent the LOH development by enhancing pituitary-gonads axis's function and reducing testicular oxidative stress to promote testosterone synthesis and spermatogenesis.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION There are many significantfactors in testicular injury which determine the prognosis in testicular torsion. Reperfusion injury following detorsion also has a significant effect on testicular injury.This study was planned considering that with the implementation of intermittent reperfusion and hypothermia, reperfusion injury can be reduced, and such an application might have a positive effect on testicular tissue in the long term. MATERIALS AND METHODS Forty adult male rats were divided into five groups as follows: Sham(Sh)(n = 8), Torsion(T)(n = 8), Intermittent reperfusion(IR)(n = 8), Hypothermia(H)(n = 8), and Intermittent reperfusion+hypothermia(IR+H)(n = 8). Except forGroup Sh, the left testicle was taken out of the scrotum in all groups, rotated three times counterclockwise, fixed back in the scrotum, and left for four hours.After four hours, and just before reperfusion, the testicle's detorsion was performed while holding the vascular structures in the proximal part of the torsed segment with an atraumatic vessel clamp, and thus, not allowing reperfusion in Groups T, IR, H, and IR+H. In Group T, the clamp was released immediately. In Group H, an ice-bag cooling was performed around the testis, and the clamp was released when the tissue temperature was reached and kept constant at 4 °C. In Group IR, the clamp was released, allowing reperfusion of five seconds, followed by reclamping, providing an ischemic status for ten seconds; this procedure was repeated ten times. In Group H+IR,an ice-bag cooling was performed around the testis, and the clamp was released when the tissue temperature was reached and kept constant at 4 °C. Then, reperfusion was applied for 5 s, followed by 10 s ischemia with reclamping. This procedure was repeated ten times.Tissue blood flow was provided for60 days of reperfusion in all groups. After 60 days, both testicles were excised under anesthesia in all living rats, and samples ofthe left testicle werereserved for biochemical and pathological examinations. At the end of the procedure, all animals were sacrificed by a high dose of anesthesia. RESULTS It was biochemically and histopathologically determined that the tissues were preserved in the experimental groups compared to Group T, which was statistically significant (p < 0.05).However, no experimental group's superiority over each other was determined both biochemically and histopathologically (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Our long-term experimental study revealed that all methods were protective in testicular torsion. The authors believe that these methods can be applied in clinical practice because of their ease of application and no additional cost. On the other hand, the results of our study should further be supported by other experimental studies.

Abstract
This study was designed to investigate the effects of separate and combined administration of hypothermia and pentoxifylline to preserve the effects on the testicles in an experimental model of testicular torsion/ detorsion injuries in rats. Forty male adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups, control, torsion/detorsion (TD), torsion/detorsion/hypothermia (TD+ICE), torsion/detorsion received of pentoxifylline (40mg/kg, ip) (TD+PTX) and torsion/detorsion/hypothermia/PTX (TD+ICE+PTX). Left testicular torsion (TT) was performed for 4 and half hours, and ice fragments have been used at the beginning of torsion. After the reperfusion period (a week), oxidative maker's serum levels, testosterone hormone, sperm parameters, and histopathological and gene expression evaluations have been performed. Significant adverse changes were observed in the TD group for histological variables, sperm count, oxidative marker, testosterone hormone, Bax, BCL2 and caspase-3 expression. The parameters studied in the group receiving PTX improved in comparison with the TD group, while macroscopical parameters of both the hypothermia and PTX+ICE groups were not different compared with the TD group. The results revealed that PTX, as an antioxidant component, was protective against testicular torsion, while hypothermia and hypothermia plus PTX did not exhibit this property, which may have been due to the duration of hypothermia (4 hr) or reperfusion period.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Testicular torsion is an emergent condition. The protective effect of medical hypothermia in ischemia/reperfusion injury is well defined. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the late results of hypothermia through a rat testicular torsion/detorsion model compatible with human testicular torsion. STUDY DESIGN Rats were divided into 5 groups (n = 7): (1)Sham (S) group, (2)T/D group: right testis was torted for 1-h, (3)T/D + H30 group: hypothermia at 4 °C was applied for 30 min before detorsion, (4)T/D + H90 group: hypothermia at 4 °C was applied for a total of 90 min (30 min before and 1-h after detorsion), (5)H group: hypothermia at 4 °C was applied to right testis for 90 min. Testicular diameters at preoperative period and 8th postoperative week were measured. Biochemically, MPO, NO, 3-NT and 4-HNE in testicular tissue and serum levels of NO, PGF 2α, 3-NT, 8-OHdG and 4-HNE were studied. Histopathologic examination and TUNEL assay were also performed. RESULTS Biochemical and macroscopical parameters of both T/D + H30 and T/D + H90 groups were statistically different from group T/D with respect to protective effects of hypothermia. Johnsen's score was also statistically different in group T/D + H90. DISCUSSION Hypothermia can easily be applied with ice bags both in perioperative period. This is the first study evaluating the effect of hypothermia applied postoperatively. Tissue level of protein oxidation marker (3-NT) and serum levels of DNA damage (8-OHdG), lipid peroxidation (4-HNE), protein oxidation (3-NT) and oxidative stress (PGF-2α) markers were measured for the first time. CONCLUSIONS Hypothermia has been shown to be macroscopically, biochemically and histopathologically beneficial in the long-term experimental testicular torsion model.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of oyster oligopeptide (OOP) at different doses on testosterone secretion and its regulating mechanism in partial androgen deficiency syndrome of aging male. METHODS The cyclophosphamide-induced partial androgen deficiency syndrome of the aging male rats were treated with a low, medium and high dose of OOP for 6 weeks. RESULTS Cyclophosphamide could decrease levels of total testosterone and luteinizing hormone in serum, and testosterone and glutathione peroxidase in testis, and increase malondialdehyde, and downregulate the mRNA expression of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein, steroidogenic acute regulatory-related lipid transfer domain 7 and P450 cholesterol side chain cleavage enzyme in testis (P < 0.05). All these changes were reversed by OOP co-administration with different doses, although, OOP at a low dose did not increase serum testosterone, luteinizing hormone and testicular glutathione peroxidase levels. CONCLUSIONS OOP treatment with different doses can effectively reduce oxidative stress in testicular tissue, promote the synthesis of testosterone and then prevent the formation of partial androgen deficiency syndrome of the aging male, with optimal effect at medium dose.
