Abstract
BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation (AF) is highly prevalent in the population, yet the factors contributing to AF events in susceptible individuals remain partially understood. The potential relationship between meteorological factors and AF, particularly with abnormal electrocardiograph (ECG) repolarization, has not been adequately studied. This case-crossover study aims to investigate the association between meteorological factors and daily hospital visits for AF with abnormal ECG repolarization in Shanghai, China. METHODS The study cohort comprised 10,325 patients with ECG-confirmed AF who sought treatment at Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital between 2015 and 2018. Meteorological and air pollutant concentration data were matched with the patient records. Using a case-crossover design, we analyzed the association between meteorological factors and the daily count of hospital visitors for AF with abnormal ECG repolarization at our AF center. Lag analysis models were applied to examine the temporal relationship between meteorological factors and AF events. RESULTS The analysis revealed statistically significant associations between AF occurrence and specific meteorological factors. AF events were significantly associated with average atmospheric pressure (lag 0 day, OR 0.9901, 95% CI 0.9825-0.9977, P < 0.05), average temperature (lag 1 day, OR 0.9890, 95% CI 0.9789-0.9992, P < 0.05), daily pressure range (lag 7 days, OR 1.0195, 95% CI 1.0079-1.0312, P < 0.01), and daily temperature range (lag 5 days, OR 1.0208, 95% CI 1.0087-1.0331, P < 0.01). Moreover, a significant correlation was observed between daily pressure range and daily temperature range with AF patients, particularly those with abnormal ECG repolarization, as evident in the case-crossover analysis. CONCLUSION This study highlights a significant correlation between meteorological factors and daily hospital visits for AF accompanied by abnormal ECG repolarization in Shanghai, China. In addition, AF patients with abnormal ECG repolarization were found to be more vulnerable to rapid daily changes in pressure and temperature compared to AF patients without such repolarization abnormalities.

Abstract
Ambulance data has been reported to be a sensitive indicator of health service use during hot days, but there is no comprehensive summary of the quantitative association between heat and ambulance dispatches. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to retrieve and synthesise evidence published up to 31 August 2022 about the association between heat, prolonged heat (i.e. heatwaves), and the risk of ambulance dispatches. We initially identified 3628 peer-reviewed papers and included 48 papers which satisfied the inclusion criteria. The meta-analyses showed that, for each 5 °C increase in mean temperature, the risk of ambulance dispatches for all causes and for cardiovascular diseases increased by 7% (95% confidence interval (CI): 5%, 10%) and 2% (95% CI: 1%, 3%), respectively, but not for respiratory diseases. The risk of ambulance dispatches increased by 6% (95% CI: 4%, 7%), 7% (95% CI: 5%, 9%), and 18% (95% CI: 12%, 23%) under low-intensity, severe, and extreme heatwaves, respectively. We observed two potential sources of bias in the existing literature: (1) bias in temperature exposure measurement; and (2) bias in the ascertainment of ambulance dispatch causes. This review suggests that heat exposure is associated with an increased risk of ambulance dispatches, and there is a dose-response relationship between heatwave intensity and the risk of ambulance dispatches. For future studies assessing the heat-ambulance association, we recommend that (1) using data on spatially refined gridded temperature that is either very well interpolated or derived from satellite imaging may be an alternative to reduce exposure measurement bias; and (2) linking ambulance data with hospital admission data can be useful to improve health outcome classification.

Abstract
Previous studies have quantified the associations between ambient temperature and dispatch of ambulances, but the conclusions are still controversial. Therefore, a systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to summarize all the current evidence. A systematic review of published literature was undertaken to characterize the effect of temperature on ambulance dispatch. We completed the literature search by the end of January 5, 2022. The pooled estimates for different temperature exposures were calculated using a random effects model. Differences among temperature pooled estimates were determined using subgroup analysis. This study was registered with PROSPERO under the number CRD42021284434. This is the first meta-analysis investigating the association between temperature and ambulance dispatch. A total of 25 studies were eligible for this study. The overall increased risks of high temperature, expressed as relative risks, were 1.734 (95% CI: 1.481-2.031). Subgroup analysis found that for the study using daily mean temperature, the high temperature increased the risk of ambulance dispatch by 15.2% (RR = 1.152, 95%CI: 1.081-1.228). In the ambulance dispatch of all-cause subgroups, the RR was 1.179 (95% CI: 1.085-1.282). The results also reported a significant association between low temperature and ambulance dispatch (RR = 1.130, 95% CI: 1.052-1.213). In the subgroup, the RR for cardiovascular disease was 1.209 (95% CI: 1.033-1.414), and respiratory disease was 1.126 (95% CI: 1.012-1.253). Sensitivity analysis indicated that the results were robust, and no obvious publication bias was observed. High temperature and low temperature are important factors influencing the dispatch of ambulances. These findings help improve the understanding of temperature effect on ambulance dispatch, demonstrating the need to consider wider surveillance of acute health outcomes in different environments.

Abstract
Background: Weather is a well-known factor worldwide in psychiatric problems such as depression, with the elderly and females being particularly susceptible. The aim of this study was to detect associations between the risk of depressive symptoms (DS) and weather variables. Methods: 6937 participants were assessed in the baseline survey of the Health Alcohol Psychosocial Factors in Eastern Europe (HAPIEE) study during 2006−2008. To assess the risk of DS, a multivariate logistic model was created with predictors such as socio-demographic factors, health behaviors, and weather variables. Results: DS were found in 23.4% of the respondents, in 15.6% of males and in 29.9% in females. A higher risk of DS (by 25%) was associated with November−December, a rising wind speed, and relative humidity (RH) < 94% and snowfall during the cold period occurring 2 days before the survey. A higher air temperature (>14.2 °C) predominant during May−September had a protective impact. A higher risk of DS in males was associated with lower atmospheric pressure (<1009 hPa) 2 days before. Females were more sensitive to the monthly variation, snowfall, and RH. Conclusions: The findings of our study suggest that some levels of weather variables have a statistically significant effect on DS.

Abstract
Climate change is one of the most important concerns for public health that affects communities and is a threat to human health. Few cross-sectional studies investigated the effects of extreme temperature as a risk factor on the cardiovascular system and the Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests (OHCA).The current study aims to investigate the association between climate variables (cold and hot weathers, humidity, atmospheric pressures) with Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests in Rasht, Iran.This is an ecological time-series study, which investigated 392 patients with OHCA that were hospitalized in Dr. Heshmat Medical center of Rasht city in a 3-years period. Data on meteorological variables were obtained from the General Meteorological Department of Guilan Province. Information regarding the number of cardiac arrest admissions was obtained from the sole specialized cardiac hospital of Rasht. Data were analyzed using R software.Hot weather decreases the number of cardiac attacks on the same day (lag 0), while the cold weather (relative risk (RR) = 1.408; confidence interval (CI): 1.014-1.955) increases the number of OHCA cases and unsuccessful cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPRs). Low humidity (RR = 1.76; CI: 1.006-3.79) is associated with increased unsuccessful CPRs. High atmospheric pressures (RR = 1.166; CI: 1.001 to 1.787) are also associated with an increased number of cardiac arrest admissions. For women, men, and those aged >65 years of old, exposure with severe cold (RR = 1.335; CI: 1.014-1.758) and hot weathers, respectively, increases and decreases the number of cardiac arrest admissions.Cold weather has immediate impacts on the incidence of OHCA cases and unsuccessful CPRs. Decreasing humidity also increases the number of and decreases the success rate of CPRs. Increasing the awareness of patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVDs as well as improving the preparedness of emergency care teams can decrease the impacts of climate variables.
