Trizma as an eco-friendly efficient inhibitor for the acidic corrosion of steel: experimental and computational studies. Sci Rep 2022; 12:15346. Abstract
The inhibition characteristics of Trizma for corrosion of steel in 1 M HCl was investigated using the weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques and the surface techniques XRD,SEM and EDX. The potentiodynamic results indicated that Trizma act as a mixed type inhibitor for steel in 1 M HCl giving efficiently 93.7% percent inhibition for 1 × 10–2 mol/L. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy results showed an increase in Rct values and decrease in the value of Cdl with increasing the concentration of Trizma indicating that the presence of Trizma in the solution retards the steel corrosion due to the adsorption of its molecules at the steel/solution interface. The XRD and SEM results indicated that the surface of the steel contains Trizma molecules. The DFT method was investigated to correlate the molecular properties of the studied Trizma with the experimental inhibition efficiency. Langmuir, Flory–Huggins isotherm, and the Kinetic–thermodynamic model were used to fit the corrosion inhibition data of Trizma. The results indicated that the Langmuir isotherm does not fit with the experimental results due mainly to the non-ideal adsorption of its molecules at the steel/solution interface. However, Flory–Huggins isotherms, and the Kinetic–thermodynamic model are applicable and showed that the adsorption process of Trizma on the steel surface is cooperative (Chemical–Physical).

Corrosion Inhibition of 3003 Aluminum Alloy in Molar Hydrochloric Acid Solution by Olive Oil Mill Liquid By-Product. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CORROSION 2021. Abstract
According to the literature, the works on the inhibition of aluminum alloy corrosion using naturally occurring compounds are limited. For this, the inhibiting effect of oil mill liquid by-product (OMW) on the corrosion of 3003 aluminum alloy (AA3003) in molar hydrochloric acid solution was evaluated using electrochemical techniques. In parallel, a computational approach based on DFT/B3LYP and Monte Carlo methods was used to understand the inhibition process under electronic and atomic scales, respectively. The experimental results reveal that OMW has a good inhibiting effect on the corrosion of AA3003 alloy in the tested solution and acts as a cathodic inhibitor. The inhibitory efficiency increases by increasing OMW concentration to attain 89% at 6.0 ppm. The effect of temperature shows that the inhibition efficiency of OMW decreases with temperature rising. Nevertheless, a good prevention capacity of 83% is obtained at 338 K. Such interesting achieved protection property was attributed to the adsorption of OMW constituents onto the alloy surface via a mixed physichemisorption process. This process is found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Furthermore, the activation thermodynamic parameters of the corrosion process of AA3003 alloy were also determined and discussed. The computational outcomes outlined the ability of the OMW components to interact favorably with the metal surface, hence the formation of a protective layer, which justified the observed inhibition behaviors. Conferring to the present study, OMW can be used as a good green corrosion inhibitor for AA3003 alloy in the acidic medium.

Abstract
The corrosion inhibition performance of an imidazolium-based ionic liquid (IL), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium thiocyanate (BMIm), was studied on AA 6061 alloy in 1 M HCl solution at 303 K, 333 K, and 363 K by gravimetric tests, potentiodynamic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis. Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to detect the surface morphologies and chemical composition of the surface films. The results indicate that this IL inhibits AA 6061 corrosion in acid with maximum inhibition efficiencies of 98.2%, 86.6%, and 41.2% obtained at 303 K, 333 K, and 363 K respectively. Inhibition efficiency generally decreased with increasing immersion time; the major exception was at 303 K, whereby the inhibition efficiency was detected to increase with immersion time from 30 to 90 min and then decrease slightly beyond 90 min. The results indicate that BMIm is a mixed-type inhibitor with a predominant effect on cathodic reactions. Surface morphology analyses by SEM revealed less surface damage in the presence of the inhibitor. XPS analysis established the development of a protective film on the AA 6061 surface which was hydrophobic in nature.
