Impact of the annealing temperature on perovskite strontium doped neodymium manganites nanocomposites and their photocatalytic performances

Structure, magnetic, and photocatalysis of La0.7Sr0.3MO3 (M = Mn, Co, and Fe) perovskite nanoparticles: Novel photocatalytic materials

The present study, La_0.7Sr_0.3MO₃ (M = Mn-, Co-, and Fe-), perovskite, has successfully been synthesized via co-precipitation and sol-gel auto-combustion. XRD, SEM, and EDX characterized the prepared samples. XRD and SEM showed that the as-prepared La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ and La_0.7Sr_0.3CoO₃ have multiphase. La_0.7Sr_0.3FeO₃, in comparison, is nanosized, has a single-phase perovskite, and has a rather homogenous particle size distribution. Additionally, EDX mapping analysis shows that all pieces are distributed uniformly. According to X-ray diffractometer results, all calcined powders contain 100% LSF, more than 15% perovskite phase of LSC, 47% LSM, and other secondary phases, such as cobalt oxide. Aِt room temperature and magnetic field of ± 20 kG, La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ exhibited weak ferromagnetic behavior in a low magnetic field, whereas diamagnetic behavior was seen in a high magnetic field. La_0.7Sr_0.3FeO₃ samples behave as strong ferromagnetic. On the contrary, the photodegradation of La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ is 99% compared to 75% and 91% for other samples under UVC lights of wavelength = 254 nm. The degradation rate for La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ is 0.179 higher, about 3.25 and 2.23, than the other samples. A La_0.7Sr_0.3MnO₃ nanocomposite performs as a photocatalyst to enhance the efficiency of methylene blue photodegradation. This study boosts good UVC photocatalysts with high efficiency for different kinds of dyes. Hence, the catalyst possessed high stability and efficiency for continuous wastewater treatment.

Interfacial coupling effects on adsorptive and photocatalytic performances for photoresponsive graphene-wrapped SrTiO3@Ag under UV-visible light: experimental and DFT approach

Understanding the graphene/semiconductor/metal interactions is crucial to design innovative photocatalytic materials with efficient photocatalytic activity for environmental cleanup applications. SrTiO₃ on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with various graphene contents was successfully synthesized in this study utilizing a simple hydrothermal method, followed by decorating the surface with Ag particles by using the photodeposition process. Under UV-visible light irradiation, the resulting composites were tested for their improved photocatalytic activity to decompose methylene blue (MB). The prepared photocatalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDX, DLS, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, and DRS. First-principle density functional theory calculations (DFT) were also carried out by using the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and PBE functional with the addition of on-site Coulomb correction (GGA + U). The obtained SrTiO₃/rGO@Ag composites showed great improvement in the photocatalytic performances over pristine SrTiO₃. For the degradation reaction of MB, SrTiO₃/rGO_20%@Ag_4% composites yielded the best photocatalytic activity with efficacy reach 94%, which was also shown that it could be recycled up to four times with nearly unchanged photocatalytic activity.

Sonochemical synthesis of Pr6MoO12 nanostructures as an effective photocatalyst for waste-water treatment

Synthesis of pure Pr₆MoO₁₂ nanoparticles was the aim of the present work, which was prepared by sonochemical method which is a controllable rout on size, purity, and morphology of products. The experiments were carried out under a probe as sonication source, and its power was adjusted in 30 W (9 kHz), 50 W (15 kHz), and 80 W (24 kHz) for different samples. The optimum product with the smallest size and highest purity was synthesized by changing time, power of sonication, solvent and capping agent. Besides, the formation of various phases of praseodymium molybdate was investigated in different experimental conditions that proved the presence of ammonia, sonication and calcination are necessary factors for the preparation of pure Pr₆MoO₁₂ nanoparticles. Products were characterized by various analyses such as SEM, XRD, TEM, FT-IR, DRS, and EDS. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activity of Pr₆MoO₁₂ nanoparticles under UV irradiation was studied by photodegradation of methylene blue and acid red 92 as organic pollutants. The most active photocatalytic agent was determined superoxide anion radicals and kinetics model of photocatalytic reaction was considered as pseudo-first order.

Doping Strontium into Neodymium Manganites Nanocomposites for Enhanced Visible light Driven Photocatalysis

Nd_1-xSr_xMnO₃ nanocomposites perovskites were synthesized using sol gel method at different Sr content x = 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, and 0.9. The photocatalytic performance of the Nd_1-xSr_xMnO₃ nanocomposites for photodegradation of Acridine orange dye (AO) was evaluated over visible light illumination. The single phase of orthorhombic pbnm was formed for x = 0.3 and 0.5; however monoclinic and orthorhombic were observed at x = 0.7 and 0.9. The Energy gap of the Nd_1-xSr_xMnO₃ nanocomposites were estimated for all concentrations to be in the range of 3 ± 0.05 eV. The photocatalytic efficiency of Nd_0.3Sr_0.7MnO₃ nanocomposite was 95% of the initial AO dye concentration within 3 h illumination time. The linear increase of the photodegradation rate was found in our samples as a result of the increase of Sr contents from 0.3 to 0.7wt %. Interestingly, the Nd_0.3Sr_0.7MnO₃ content has the highest degradation rate of AO which is two times faster than undoped NdMnO₃. This superior behavior in photocatalytic activity of Nd_0.3Sr_0.7MnO₃ nanocomposite emerges from large surface area, structural anisotropy, and small particle size. These findings shows convincingly that the Nd_1-xSr_xMnO₃ photocatalysts possess great promise for visible light driven photodegradation of AO dye.
