Abstract
Sonneratia caseolaris leaf extract was characterized for its mitigation of the electrochemical corrosion of steel in naturally aerated hydrochloric acid environments by electrochemical methods and surface analysis. The presence of S. caseolaris leaf extract (SCLE) in the hydrochloric acid medium ameliorated the corrosion resistance of steel via the adsorption of SCLE species to form a barrier layer. The improved inhibition effectiveness was demonstrated to be independent of the SCLE concentration and the corrosive environment. The highest inhibition performance of approximately 98% was reached for steel in a 1 M HCl medium containing 2500 ppm SCLE. The performance significantly decreased with a decrease in the HCl concentration from 1.00 to 0.01 M with the same SCLE concentration. In addition, severe corrosion occurred on the uninhibited steel surface but was significantly reduced on the inhibited steel surface. The analyzed results also indicated the existence of electronegative functional groups in SCLE, which could promote the adsorption process for the self-formation of the barrier layer on the steel surface. The work reported herein suggested a powerful strategy to mitigate electrochemical corrosion by adding an effective new inhibitor to achieve a green inhibitor system.

Abstract
We present the synthesis of a new cerium(iii)-melamine coordination polymer (CMCP) by a mixed-solvothermal method and its characterization. Characterization techniques included Raman, Fourier Transformation Infra-Red (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), in which the change in the electronic environment and the crystallinity were tracked. The characterization results confirm the coordination of cerium(iii) with melamine through -NH2 groups, instead of the N atoms of the triazine ring, for which we propose a mechanism of interaction. In addition, Biovia Materials Studio package was applied to determine and investigate the molecular structure of the CMCP. All simulations were done using COMPASS force-field theory and atom-based method for summation of electrostatic and van de Waals forces. The application of the CMCP for the corrosion inhibition of AA2024 in 3.5% NaCl solution was tested using the potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The results point out that the presence of cerium as cerium(iii) in the CMCP structure plays the fundamental role of inhibition, whereby the inhibition mechanism occurs by cathodic oxidation of Ce(iii) to Ce(iv) and cyclic reduction of Ce(iv) to Ce(iii) by melamine part of CMCP.

Abstract
In this paper, the simple and low-cost water extraction way was used to acquisition Betel leaves extracts (BLE). The water as the extraction solvent has the characteristics of low price, environmentally friendly, and good solubility for other extraction solvents. BLE was researched as an environmental-friendly inhibitor via various experimental methods and theoretical calculations. Electrochemical experiments manifest that BLE can restrain reactions of the cathode and anode of Q235 steel. The BLE concentration was 400 mg/L, the anti-corrosion efficiency was close to 94%. The experimental data show that BLE can show high-quality anti-corrosion nature for Q235 steel immersing in 1 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) environment at a certain temperature range. The morphology maps of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) strongly proves the data of electrochemical experiments. In addition, the BLE adsorption at the Q235 steel surface belongs to the Langmuir mono-layer adsorption. Quantum chemical calculations (QCC) and molecular dynamics simulations (MDS) effectually manifest that BLE can show decent anti corrosion character.
