Spectroscopic and computational investigation of the structure and pharmacological activity of 1-benzylimidazole

Cobalt-Imidazole Complexes: Effect of Anion Nature on Thermochemical Properties

A solvent-free method was proposed for the synthesis of hexaimidazolecobalt(II) nitrate and perchlorate complexes-[Co(C3H4N2)6](NO3)2 and [Co(C3H4N2)6](ClO4)2-by adding cobalt salts to melted imidazole. The composition, charge state of the metal, and the structure of the resulting complexes were confirmed by elemental analysis, XPS, IR spectroscopy, and XRD. The study of the thermochemical properties of the synthesized complexes showed that [Co(C3H4N2)6](NO3)2 and [Co(C3H4N2)6](ClO4)2 are thermally stable up to 150 and 170 °C, respectively. When the critical temperature of thermal decomposition is reached, oxidative two-stage gasification is observed. In this case, the organic component of the [Co(C3H4N2)6](NO3)2 complex undergoes almost complete gasification to form Co3O4 with a slight admixture of CoO, which makes it attractive as a component of gas-generation compositions, like airbags.

Gad S, M. El-Mehasseb I, E. El-Kelany K. Isosterism in pyrrole via azaboroles substitution, a theoretical investigation for electronic structural, stability and aromaticity

This work uses ab-initio CBS-QB3 and density functional theory (B3LYP) to analyze the structure, stability, and aromaticity of all isosteric nitrogen-boron pyrroles. The mono-NB unit substituted group of the isosteric NB pyrrole has four isosteres, whereas the multi-NB unit substituted group has two isosteres. These two groups make up all isosteric NB pyrrole. For structural, energetic, magnetic, and electron delocalization criteria, the results highlight the predominance of the PN3B2 isostere and its greater stability over other conformers. In addition, the global reactivity indices, ESP, HOMO-LUMO, and NBO charges have all been estimated to forecast the active side's electron donation and acceptance. These isosteres are categorized as weak electrophiles and marginal nucleophiles. NB-isosteres have poorer stability, HOMO-LUMO gap, and aromaticity than the parent (pyrrole). In general, NB compounds with more ring sharing are less aromatic than NB molecules with less ring sharing. The current study is anticipated to help in understanding of the chemistry of NB substituted molecules and their experimental identification and characterization.

Solvent-Free Method for Nanoparticles Synthesis by Solid-State Combustion Using Tetra(Imidazole)Copper(II) Nitrate

The development of solvent-free techniques for nanoparticles synthesis is one of the challenges of Green chemistry. In this work, the principled opportunity to obtain copper-containing nanosized particles without use of any solvents was shown. The copper complexes were prepared as precursors by the melting-assisted solvent-free synthesis. The formation of tetra(imidazole)copper(II) nitrate complex was confirmed by XRD, elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, and thermal analysis. It was noted that their thermal decomposition occurs in two stages: (I) the low-temperature step may be related to redox interaction between organic ligands and nitrate-anions; (II) the high-temperature step may be related to the oxidation of the products of incomplete imidazole decomposition. TEM and XRD studies of solid products of complex combustion have shown that they are oxides with particle size less than 40 nm. Thus, the combustion of [Cu(Im)4](NO3)2 complex under air can be considered as a new approach to prepare nanosized particles of copper oxides without the use of solvents.

The mode of antibacterial action of quaternary N-benzylimidazole salts against emerging opportunistic pathogens

Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) are antimicrobial agents displaying a broad spectrum of activity due to their mechanism of action targeting the bacterial membrane. The emergence of bacterial resistance to QACs, especially in times of pandemics, requires the continuous search for new and potent QACs structures. Here we report the synthesis and biological evaluation of QACs based on imidazole derivative, N-benzylimidazole. The antimicrobial activity was tested against a range of pathogenic bacteria and fungi, both ATCC and clinical isolates, showing varying activities ranging in minimal inhibitory concentrations (MICs) from as low as 7 ng/mL. The most promising compound, N-tetradecyl derivative (BnI-14), proved to be very potent against bacterial biofilms, even at sub-MIC doses, suggesting interference with the bacterial growth and/or division process. The BnI-14 treatment induces bacterial membrane disruption, as observed by fluorescence spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy and it also binds to DNA indicating that bacterial membrane might not be the only cellular target of QACs. Most importantly, BnI-14 exhibits low toxicity to healthy human cell lines, suggesting that N-benzylimidazolium-based QACs may be promising new antimicrobial agents.

Aromaticity indices, electronic structural properties, and fuzzy atomic space investigations of naphthalene and its aza-derivatives

The aromaticity and CDFT properties of naphthalene and its aza-derivatives were theoretically investigated using density functional theory (DFT) electronic structure method. The reactivity and chemistry of Azanaphthalene (1-AN), 1, 2-diazanaphthalene (1, 2-DAN), 1, 3-diazanaphthalene (1, 3-DAN), 1, 4-diazanaphthalene (1,4-DAN), 1, 5-diazanaphthalene (1, 5-DAN), 1, 6-diazanaphthalene (1, 6-DAN), 1, 7-diazanaphthalene (1,7-DAN) and 1, 8-diazanaphthalene (1, 8-DAN) were thoroughly explored and predicted focusing more on the fuzzy atomic space analysis, quantum chemical descriptors (CDFT), natural bond orbital (NBO), and structural electronic properties. The CDFT is focused on predicting the condensed Fukui function and dual descriptors along with condensed local electrophilicity and nucleophilicity investigation. From the aromaticity computational study, 1,7-DAN gave PDI, FLU, FLU- π , PLR, HOMA, BIRD and LOLIPOP values of approximately one (1) was found to be the most aromatic in the group, and strongest π -stacking ability. The aromaticity follows the trend: 1, 7-DAN > 1, 8-DAN > 1, 5-DAN > 1, 6-DAN > 1, 4-DAN > 1, 2-DAN > 1-AN > naphthalene. The second order perturbation energy NBO analysis revealed that the 3 highest stabilization energies in the molecules are C₆-N_a to C₃-C₄ ( π ∗ - π ∗ 236.90 kcal/mol) of 1, 6-DAN, C₃-C₄ to C₁-C₂ ( π ∗ - π ∗ 236.37 kcal/mol) of 1-AN and C₇-N₁₀ to C₂-C₄ ( π ∗ - π ∗ 235 kcal/mol) of 1, 3-DAN.

The structural, spectral, frontier molecular orbital and thermodynamic analysis of 2-hydroxy 2-methyl propiophenone by MP2 and B3LYP methods

In the present work, we have studied the 2-hydroxy 2-methyl propiophenone (2H2MPP) theoretically as well as experimentally. The optimized molecular structure has been obtained by the density functional theory (DFT), second-order Moller–Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) and Hartree Fock (HF) in the gas phase as well as in different media like ethanol, DMSO and heptane. FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra were computed as well as recorded and fundamental vibrational wavenumbers were assigned. The electronic absorption spectra were calculated by employing the time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) to get the information about excitation energies, oscillator strength and excited state geometries in gas phase and in different solvent media. Chemical activity and chemical stability obtained by HOMO-LUMO studies using a HF/6-31[Formula: see text]G and MP2/6-311[Formula: see text]G calculations. The chemical interpretation of hyperconjugation interactions obtained by the Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis. Moreover, electrostatic potential (ESP) calculations performed to get the visual representation of relative polarity of molecule. Thermodynamic parameters like enthalpy, entropy, heat capacity, and Gibbs free energy computed with varying temperature from 10[Formula: see text]K to 500[Formula: see text]K. The aim of the current investigation is to find out the quantum chemical properties of the title compound which show an active role in the pharmaceutical and printing industries.
