Abstract
The Qiang ethnic group is one of the oldest ethnic groups in China and is the most active ethnic group among all the populations along the Tibetan-Yi corridor. They have had a profound impact nationally and internationally. The paternal and maternal genetic feature of the Qiang ethnic group has been revealed, leaving the question of the genetic characteristics from autosomes and X chromosome not answered. The aim of this study was to explore the potential of 36 A-STR (Microreader™ 36A ID System) and 19 X-STR (Microreader™ 19X System) for application in the Qiang population and to elucidate their genetic diversity in southwest China. The cumulative probability of exclusion (CPE) for autosomal STRs is 1-1.3814 × 10-15 and the mean paternity exclusion chance (MEC) for X-STRs is 1-1.7323 × 10-6. Forensic parameters suggest that the STRs analyzed here are well-suited for forensic applications. The results of phylogenetic, interpopulation differentiation, and principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) indicate that the Qiang people have extensive connections with ethnic minorities in China, supporting the view that the Qiang people are the oldest group in the entire Sino-Tibetan language family. The Qiang appeared genetically more associated with most ethnic groups in China, especially the Han. The calculation of random matching probability (RMP) was improved by Fst correction of allele frequencies to make RMP more accurate and reasonable. This study can fill in the gaps in the Qiang STR reference database, providing valuable frequency data for forensic applications and evidence for the Qiang's genetic pattern as an important ancestral position in the Sino-Tibetan populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND X-chromosomal short tandem repeats (X-STRs) are a useful supplementary approach to analysing autosomal markers in forensics and kinship studies; such markers are not well-characterised in many populations. AIM To investigate population genetic polymorphism and forensic characterisation of 16 X-STRs in the Jining Han population, and analyse genetic relationships with other Chinese populations. SUBJECTS AND METHODS Allele frequencies for 16 X-STR loci were obtained from a sample set of 527 unrelated individuals from the Jining Han population. Population genetic analyses of Jining Han and another 10 reference populations were conducted using phylogenetic tree, principal component analysis and multidimensional scaling. RESULTS We detected 149 alleles, with frequencies ranging from 0.0013 to 0.8242. The combined powers of discrimination in males and females were 0.999999997194774 and 0.999999999999995, respectively. The combined mean exclusion change (MEC)Krüger, MECKishida, MECDesmarais, and MECDesmarais Duos values were 0.999974632649096, 0.999999976997582, 0.999999977013201, and 0.999993755768423, respectively. We detected relatively high genetic homogeneity in populations with similar ethnic or geographic origins, and a close relationship between the Jining Han and Beijing Han populations. CONCLUSIONS The present findings indicate that the 16 X-STR loci examined are highly polymorphic in the Han population of Jining, providing useful information for forensic science and population genetics studies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The susceptibility to some cancers is linked to genetic factors, such as aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) polymorphisms. The relationship between ALDH2 rs671 and colorectal cancer (CRC) is not clear in Hakka population. METHODS Between October 2015 and December 2020, a total of 178 CRC patients and 261 controls were recruited. ALDH2 rs671 was genotyped in these subjects, medical records (smoking history, drinking history and blood cell parameters) were collected, and the relationship between these information and CRC was analyzed. RESULTS The proportion of the ALDH2 rs671 G/G, G/A, and A/A genotype was 48.3%, 44.4%, and 7.3% in patients; 62.1%, 34.1%, and 3.8% in controls, respectively. The difference of ALDH2 genotypes distribution between cases and controls was statistically significant (p = 0.011). The higher percentage of smokers and alcoholics, higher level of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet count, and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and lower level of lymphocyte count, lymphocyte to monocyte ratio (LMR), and mean hemoglobin concentration were observed in patients. Logistic regression analysis indicated that ALDH2 rs671 G/A genotype (G/A vs. G/G) (adjusted OR 1.801, 95% CI 1.160-2.794, p = 0.009) and A/A genotype (A/A vs. G/G) (adjusted OR 2.630, 95% CI 1.041-6.645, p = 0.041) in the co-dominant model, while G/A + A/A genotypes (G/A + A/A vs. G/G) (adjusted OR 1.883, 95% CI 1.230-2.881, p = 0.004) in the dominant model were risk factors for CRC. CONCLUSIONS Individuals carrying ALDH2 rs671 A allele (G/A, A/A genotypes) may be at increased risk of colorectal cancer.

Abstract
To investigate the genetic diversity and forensic identification efficiency of X-chromosomal short tandem repeats (X-STRs) in the Yunnan Han population, 16 X-STRs in 415 Yunnan Han individuals (247 males and 168 females) were studied. A total of 137 alleles were detected, and all loci in the Yunnan Han population were highly polymorphic. The combined discrimination of males (PDm) and females (PDf) was 0.9999997769115 and 0.999999999999999999996, respectively. Interpopulation comparisons between the Yunnan Han population and 21 other populations showed that the evolutionary relationships between different groups with the same ethnic group or nearby geographic origins were closer. This study provides the first data on X-STR genetic polymorphisms in the Yunnan Han population and enriches the X-STR database for the Chinese Han population.
