Abstract
Objectives. Computer use, as in typing, might contribute to trapezius myalgia (TM) development by increasing upper trapezius (UT) muscle fatigue. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether 10 min of performing a typing task by a population at risk would show significant changes in surface electromyography (sEMG) and pressure pain threshold (PPT) measurements. Supported and unsupported forearms postures are compared. Methods. Sixteen asymptomatic volunteers with minimum daily use of a computer of 5 h were randomized into two groups: fully supported forearms (n = 8) and unsupported forearms (n = 8). The protocol consisted of 10 min of a typing task, and the workstation was set according to the usual participant profile. sEMG and PPT readings were collected from both UT muscles. Results. PPT and sEMG readings were not significantly different among the two groups. Supported forearms had less reduction of PPT and a smaller increase in electrical activity. Conclusions. Ten minutes of typing seems insufficient to observe any significant changes that could lead to TM development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Correction of scapular alignment is advocated as a component for alleviating symptoms for patients with neck pain. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to examine the effect of active scapular correction on cervical range of motion (ROM), pain, and pressure pain threshold (PPT) in patients with chronic neck pain with depressed scapula. METHODS A randomized control trial research design was conducted. Twenty-eight participants with chronic neck pain and depressed scapula were randomly assigned to either the intervention (n = 14) or control (n = 14) group. Active cervical rotation ROM, pain at maximum cervical rotation, and PPT over the upper trapezius muscle region were measured at baseline and post active scapular correction. RESULTS The participants in the intervention group showed significantly greater active cervical rotation ROM and less pain at maximum cervical rotation than the control group, both on the ipsilateral (p < 0.01) and contralateral (p < 0.05) sides of the depressed scapula. No significant difference in PPT between the groups was demonstrated (p = 0.194). CONCLUSION Active scapular correction intervention resulted in an immediate increase in active cervical rotation ROM and a decrease in neck pain at maximum cervical rotation.

Abstract
All studies that investigated personal factors influencing pressure pain threshold (PPT) in healthy people were synthesized. Data was summarized, and risk of bias (RoB) and level of evidence were determined. Results were pooled per influencing factor, grouped by body region and included in meta-analyses. Fifty-four studies were eligible. Five had low, nine moderate, and 40 high RoB. Following meta-analyses, a strong conclusion was found for the influence of scapular position, a moderate for the influence of gender, and a weak for the influence of age (shoulder/arm region) and blood pressure on PPT. In addition, body mass index, gender (leg region), alcohol consumption and pain vigilance may not influence PPT. Based on qualitative summary, depression and menopause may not influence PPT. For other variables there was only preliminary or conflicting evidence. However, caution is advised, since the majority of included studies showed a high RoB and several were not eligible to include in meta-analyses. Heterogeneity was high in the performed meta-analyses, and most conclusions were weak. More standardized research is necessary.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mechanosensitivity changes and trigger points in the infraspinatus muscle are associated with several painful conditions of the upper limb. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of different postures of the upper quadrant on the pressure pain threshold (PPT) of the infraspinatus muscle. METHODS This was an observational, cross-sectional study. Fifty-four subjects with and without shoulder pain (Asymptomatic subjects = 27, mean age 26.9 ± 4.92 years, BMI 23.73 ± 3.87), (symptomatic subjects = 27, mean age 27.6 ± 3.68 years, BMI 24.35 ± 3.86) were evaluated with a pressure algometer on the infraspinatus muscle belly, in four different positions of the upper quadrant: rest position (P1), passive scapular retraction position (P2), cervical contralateral inclination position (P3), and suprascapular nerve provocation position (P4). The assessed side was randomly chosen and all measurements were taken in sitting position. RESULTS No differences were observed between groups. The within-group analysis showed differences for both factors: "Positions" (F = 69.91; p = 0.001) and the interaction "Positions^Group" (F = 3.36; p = 0.02). The pairwise post-hoc analysis showed differences for the retracted position (P2) compared to others P1 (p = 0.001), P3 (p = 0.001), and P4 (p = 0.001), with higher PPT results achieved on the retracted position. Differences between P4 vs. P1 (p = 0.03) were also observed, with higher values for P4. CONCLUSION Placing the scapular girdle in a passive scapular retraction position significantly reduces the pressure sensitivity at the infraspinatus muscle. Physiotherapists can take into account these results when assessing and treating patients with upper quadrant pain syndromes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Internet addiction (IA), defined as excessive, time consuming, uncontrollable use of the internet, has become a widespread problem. In this study, we investigated the impact of internet addiction on depression, physical activity level, and latent trigger point sensitivity in Turkish university students. METHODS A total of 215 university students (155 females and 60 males) who were between 18-25 years of age participated in the study. Using the Addiction Profile Index Internet Addiction Form (APIINT), we identified 51 people as non-internet-addicted (non-IA) (Group 1: 10 male/41 female) and 51 as internet-addicted (IA) (Group 2: 7 male/44 female). APIINT, International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short-Form (IPAQ), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and Neck Disability Index (NDI) were administered to both groups, and the pressure-pain threshold (PPT) in upper/middle trapezius latent trigger points area was measured. RESULTS The internet addiction rate was 24.3% in our students. Compared with the non-IA group, the daily internet use time and BDI and NDI scores were higher (all p< 0.05), while the IPAQ walking (p< 0.01), IPAQ total (p< 0.05), and PPT values (p< 0.05) were lower in the IA group. CONCLUSIONS IA is a growing problem. This addiction may lead to musculoskeletal problems and can have consequences involving the level of physical activity, depression, and musculoskeletal disorders, particularly in the neck.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess intra-rater (intra-session and inter-day) reliability and influence of side dominance and the scapular resting position on the shear modulus (an index of stiffness) of resting cervical and axioscapular muscles. Sixteen healthy participants were recruited. On day one, ultrasound shear wave elastography was used to measure the shear modulus of superficial and deep cervical extensor and axioscapular muscles bilaterally. Clinical assessments of scapular resting position were performed bilaterally. On day two, testing was repeated on the dominant side. Both intra-session and inter-day reliability were good to excellent for shear modulus of superficial muscles, and poor to excellent for deep muscles. Side differences of shear modulus for posterior upper trapezius were statistically significant but clinically irrelevant. The shear modulus of posterior upper trapezius and middle trapezius were significantly correlated with scapular depression. Ultrasound shear wave elastography is a reliable tool for quantitatively assessing stiffness of superficial cervical and axioscapular muscles. The influence of scapular position should be considered in future comparative studies of healthy controls and patients with neck/shoulder pain. This study provides the necessary first step for future studies on assessing and interpreting the stiffness of cervical and axioscapular muscles for neck and shoulder musculoskeletal disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A depressed scapular alignment could lead to prolonged and repetitive stress or compression of the brachial plexus, resulting in sensitization of neural tissue. However, no study has investigated the influence of alignment of the scapulae on sensitization of upper limb neural tissue in otherwise asymptomatic people. In this case-control study, we investigate the influence of a depressed scapular alignment on mechanosensitivity of the upper limb peripheral nervous system as well as pressure pain thresholds (PPT). METHODS Asymptomatic individuals with neutral vertical scapular alignment (n = 25) or depressed scapular alignment (n = 25) participated. We measured the upper limb neurodynamic test (ULNT1), including assessment of symptom response and elbow range of motion (ROM), and PPT measured over upper limb peripheral nerve trunks, the upper trapezius muscle and overlying cervical zygapophyseal joints. RESULTS Subjects with a depressed scapular reported significantly greater pain intensity (t = 5.7, p < 0.0001) and reduced elbow extension ROM (t = -2.7, p < 0.01) during the ULNT1 compared to those with a normal scapular orientation. Regardless of the location tested, the group presenting with a depressed scapular had significantly lower PPT compared to those with a normal scapular orientation (PPT averaged across all sites: normal orientation: 3.3 ± 0.6 kg/cm2, depressed scapular: 2.1 ± 0.5 kg/cm2, p < 0.00001). CONCLUSIONS Despite being asymptomatic, people with a depressed scapular have greater neck and upper limb neural tissue mechanosensitivity when compared to people with a normal scapular orientation. This study offers insight into the potential development of neck-arm pain due to a depressed scapular position.

Abstract
[Purpose] To identify the effects of a neck intervention on neck pain and depression in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). [Subjects] Thirty-one patients with neck pain and a diagnosis of PTSD were enrolled. [Methods] Neck exercise training was performed with the experimental group and neck self-exercise (using a modification of the McKenzie exercise) was used with the control group. Both groups performed their exercises for 30 minutes at a time, three times per week. To compare the effects of the interventions, the threshold of neck tenderness and depression levels were measured at each period. [Results] The pain threshold of both sides of the trapezius showed a significant difference between the two groups at the three measurement periods. In the experimental group, the threshold increased by 19.7% on the left and 18.3% on the right after the intervention compared to before. Depression levels significantly differed in the experimental group between the three measurements. [Conclusion] This study has important implications for therapeutic strategies, as it provides strong evidence for a method of improving symptoms of neck pain; furthermore, it is effective for subjects with psychological problems such as PTSD.
