Abstract
The chemical industry is considered to be one of the largest consumers of energy in the manufacturing sector. As the cost of energy is rising rapidly, coupled with the increasingly stringent standards for the release of harmful chemicals and gases into the environment, more attention is now focused on developing energy efficient chemical processes that could significantly reduce both operational costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Alkene epoxidation is an important chemical process as the resultant epoxides are highly reactive compounds that are used as platform chemicals for the production of commercially important products for flavours, fragrances, paints and pharmaceuticals. A number of epoxidation methods have been developed over the past decade with the ultimate aim of minimising waste generation and energy consumption. In this review paper, some of the recent advances in epoxides synthesis using energy efficient processes are discussed. The epoxidation methods may provide sustainability in terms of environmental impact and energy consumption.

Abstract
Direct propylene epoxidation with molecular oxygen is a dream reaction with 100% atom economy, but aerobic epoxidation is challenging because of the undesired over-oxidation and isomerization of epoxide products. Herein, we report the construction of uniform cobalt ions confined in faujasite zeolite, namely, Co@Y, which exhibits unprecedented catalytic performance in the aerobic epoxidation of propylene. Propylene conversion of 24.6% is achieved at propylene oxide selectivity of 57% at 773 K, giving a state-of-the-art propylene oxide production rate of 4.7 mmol/gcat/h. The catalytic performance of Co@Y is very stable, and no activity loss can be observed for over 200 h. Spectroscopic analyses reveal the details of molecular oxygen activation on isolated cobalt ions, followed by interaction with propylene to produce epoxide, in which the Co2+-Coδ+-Co2+ (2 < δ < 3) redox cycle is involved. The reaction pathway of propylene oxide and byproduct acrolein formation from propylene epoxidation is investigated by density functional theory calculations, and the unique catalytic performance of Co@Y is interpreted. This work presents an explicit example of constructing specific transition-metal ions within the zeolite matrix toward selective catalytic oxidations.

Abstract
Here, we report the synthesis of spherical bimetal ZnCo-MOF materials by a hydrothermal rotacrystallization method and their catalytic activity on the air epoxidation of mixed biolefins enhanced by microwaves. The structural and chemical properties of the ZnCo-MOF materials were fully characterized by XRD, IR, SEM, TG, XPS, and NH3-TPD. The morphology of the material exhibited a three-dimensional spherical structure. From an NH3-TPD test of the ZnCo-MOF catalyst, it could be concluded that the Zn0.1Co1-MOF-H-150 rpm material had the highest acidic content and the strongest acidity among the catalysts synthesized by different methods, which gave the best performance in the epoxidation of mixed biolefins. The air epoxidation reaction was carried out under atmospheric pressure and microwave conditions, in the absence of any initiator or coreducing agent. Moreover, the Zn0.1Co1-MOF catalyst could be recycled six times without reducing the catalytic activity significantly, which showed the stability of spherical catalyst material under microwaves.
