Being Female and in a Romantic Relationship Enhances the Association between Satisfaction with Love Life and Capacity to Love

This study aims to evaluate if the relation between love life satisfaction, assessed by the satisfaction with love life scale (SWLLS), and capacity to love, assessed by the capacity to love inventory (CTL-I), is moderated by gender and by being or not in a romantic relationship, in a Portuguese sample. To this end, the adaptation and validation of CTL-I for this population were carried out through an exploratory factorial analysis (EFA) followed by a Robust Maximum Likelihood (MLR) confirmatory factorial analysis (CFA). A multi-group analysis for measurement invariance depending on being in a romantic relationship or not was assessed. The model's reliability was also evaluated. The associations between SWLLS and CTL-I were tested by correlations, regressions and moderations. At last, differences between means and distributions concerning sociodemographic variables were determined. The results showed that a good model fit for the Portuguese version of the CTL-I was found, as well as good psychometric properties. Results also showed that satisfaction with love life contributes to explaining the capacity to love and all its dimensions, and that gender and being in a romantic relationship moderate the association between love life satisfaction and the capacity to love. Being female and being in a romantic relationship make the relationship between love life satisfaction and the capacity to love stronger and more meaningful.

Philosophisch-psychiatrische Reflexionen zur Liebe

With reference to a poem "Dialogue between two lovers" and a fable "The Last Love", essential aspects of love are described: love as access to the world, as a path to wisdom, self-knowledge and virtue, love as fear of loss and the desire to merge, love as encounter in dialogue, love as care, love as ecstasy, a feeling of pleasure and happiness. These are based on three theories of love from the beginnings of philosophy in ancient Greece by Plato and Aristotle. In the article they are considered from a philosophical-psychiatric perspective and supplemented by newer interpretations. With the help of a brief description of individual psychiatric disorders, a new understanding of love has been formulated. Ethical reflections on love life in psychiatry suggest that love in psychiatry is subject to a taboo, despite the creative possibilities it offers. Possible causes are discussed at the end. The article encourages thinking about love in psychiatry.

Love Addiction - Current Diagnostic and Therapeutic Paradigms in Clinical Psychology. (v2)

Background

We have investigated and analyzed the latest research on love addiction in the fields of clinical psychology, diagnosis, psychotherapy and treatment.

Methods

From 30 November 2021 to July 2022 a review was conducted aimed at identifying the current diagnostic paradigms associated with this new behavioral dependence, investigating in depth what has not yet emerged, searching for strong and weak correlations with related theoretical constructs, comorbidities, investigate which evaluation scales are currently used and outline a guiding design that allows you to move between current scientific discoveries, searching for relevant studies in the databases PubMed, National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), PsycINFO, MDPI, APA, ScienceDirect, and ReserchGate.

Results

We identified a total of 102 unique articles. Among these, 22 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility and 5 of these met the eligibility criteria and were, therefore, included in the final systematic review.

Conclusions

Group psychotherapy has proved to be a valid alternative, in fact the scientific landscape suggests that most group therapies are successful because these dynamics involve the reward and attachment systems in the brain in most subjects. Although there is currently no official classification for this type of addiction, the continuing interests of clinical psychology open up new scenarios for achieving greater psychophysical well-being.
