Abstract
Considering the circular economy and environmental protection, sustainable recovery of high-value metals from wastewater has become a prominent concern. Unlike conventional methods featuring extensive chemicals or energy consumption, membrane separation technology plays a crucial role in facilitating the sustainable and efficient recovery of valuable metals from wastewater due to its attractive features. In this review, we first briefly summarize the sustainable supply chain and significance of sustainable recovery of aqueous high-value metals. Then, we review the most recent advances and application potential in promising state-of-the-art membrane-based technologies for recovery of high-value metals (silver, gold, rhenium, platinum, ruthenium, palladium, iridium, osmium, and rhodium) from wastewater effluents. In particular, pressure-based membranes, liquid membranes, membrane distillation, forward osmosis, electrodialysis and membrane-based hybrid technologies and their mechanism of high-value metal recovery is thoroughly discussed. Then, engineering application and economic sustainability are also discussed for membrane-based high-value metal recovery. The review finally concludes with a critical and insightful overview of the techno-economic viability and future research direction of membrane technologies for efficient high-value metal recovery from wastewater.

Transport of As (III) from Acidic Feed Solution through Supported Liquid Membrane Impregnated with Tri-n-dodecylamine and Recovery as As (V). J CHEM-NY 2020. Abstract
The transport of As (III) via supported liquid membrane containing tri-n-dodecylamine (TDDA) as carrier in acidic medium has been studied. Various factors affecting the transport of As (III) were evaluated. The effects of acid concentration (HCl), metal ion concentration, carrier, and strippant (NaOH) concentration on transport of As (III) were thoroughly examined. Mathematical transport model was presented considering the formation of complex between TDDA, acid, and As (III) at feed membrane interface, then the diffusion of this complex through membrane, and finally dissociation of the complex in basic medium at strip membrane interface. The predicted results of this model strongly agree with experimental ones. The stoichiometry of complex was determined on the basis of slope analysis of plots. The mechanism of transport was determined by coupled co-ion transport mechanism, with H+ and Cl− coupled ions. The optimized SLM was efficiently used for transport of As (III) from acidic feed solution into basic strippant NaOH and oxidized to less toxic form As (V) by adding H2O2.

Abstract
A sustainable and stable supported liquid membrane (SLM) extraction of nickel was developed via impregnation of sustainable liquid membrane in the composite membrane support consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK). Bis-2-ethylhexyl phosphate (D2EHPA), 1-octanol, refined palm oil and sulfuric acid were employed as extractant, synergist extractant, diluent and strippant, respectively. Variables studied including effect of refined palm oil compositions as well as the configurations and thicknesses of SPEEK. Lifespan of SLM was evaluated by recycling the composite membrane support. Results revealed that upon using 100% refined palm oil, about 100% of nickel was extracted and recovered in 10 and 14 h, respectively. Composite SPEEK/PVDF stabilized SLM by reducing liquid membrane loss from 47 to 23% upon applying SPEEK at the feed side of PVDF support. High permeability and flux values were obtained at 9.26 x 10-4 cms-1 and 6.48 x 10-7 molcm-2s-1 when increasing SPEEK thickness from 0.025 to 0.055 mm, respectively. The lifespan of SLM was extended up to ninth cycles with low weight loss percentage of the impregnated composite membrane (8%). In conclusion, the SPEEK/PVDF impregnated with refined palm oil has improved the stability of SLM extraction of nickel ions from industrial wastewater.

Abstract
In this work, the mathematical modeling of the facilitated transport of germanium (non-dispersive extraction) through a flat sheet membrane with an Aliquat 336 carrier was described. The flat sheet supported liquid membrane (FSSLM) experiments were performed under conditions germanium ≈ 100 mg/L, tartaric acid concentration of 2.76 mmol/L, and carrier concentrations of 2.5-10%v/v. The extraction equilibrium, mass transfer, and diffusion equations based on Fick's law were the principles of modeling. Modeling was carried out by programming in Matlab mathematical software to obtain the extraction (Kex) and mass transfer constants (Km) as the objective parameters. According to the model resolution, Kex and Km were found to be 0.178 and 9.25 × 10-2 cm/s, respectively. The correlation coefficients between model and experimental data relating to the Aliquat 336 concentrations of 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10%v/v were found as 0.96, 0.98, 0.99, and 0.92. The parameters of root mean square error, bias, and scatter index showed the model accuracy. In addition, diffusion coefficients relating to Aliquat 336 concentrations of 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10%v/v were calculated using mass transfer coefficients to be 2.4 × 10-4, 2.23 × 10-4, 1.91 × 10-4, and 1.79 × 10-4 cm2/s, respectively.

Abstract
The facilitated passage of Zn (II) across flat sheet supported liquid membrane saturated with TDDA (tri-n-dodecylamine) in xylene membrane phase has been investigated. The effect of acid and metal ion concentration in the feed solution, the carrier concentration in membrane phase, stripping agent concentration in stripping phase, and coions on the extraction of Zn (II) was investigated. The stoichiometry of the extracted species, that is, complex, was investigated on slope analysis method and it was found that the complex (LH)2·Zn(Cl2) is responsible for transport of Zn (II). A mathematical model was developed for transport of Zn (II), and the predicted results strongly agree with experimental ones. The mechanism of transport was determined by coupled coion transport mechanism with H+and Cl−coupled ions. The optimized SLM was effectively used for elimination of Zn (II) from waste discharge liquor of galvanizing plant of Zn (II).

Abstract
Simultaneous removal of two heavy metals, lead(II) and cadmium(II), from mixed feed using supported liquid membrane (SLM) based technique is investigated in this work. The carrier-solvent combination of "sodium salt of Di-2-ethylhexylphosphoric acid (D2EHPA) (4% w/w) in environmentally benign coconut oil" was immobilized into the pores of solid polymeric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) support. Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) was used as the stripping agent. Carbonate salts of lead(II) and cadmium(II) were formed in the stripping side interface and they were insoluble in water leading to precipitation inside the stripping solution. The transportation of solute is positively affected due to the precipitation. Lead(II) removal was found to be preferential due to its favorable electronic configuration. The conversion of the liquid waste to the solid one was added advantage for the final removal of hazardous heavy metals.

Abstract
Effluent containing colour/dyes, especially reactive dyes, becomes a great concern of wastewater treatment because it is toxic to human life and aquatic life. In this study, reactive dye of Black B was separated using the supported liquid membrane process. Commercial polypropylene membrane was used as a support of the kerosene-tridodecylamine liquid membrane. Several parameters were tested and the result showed that almost 100% of 70 ppm Black B was removed and 99% of 70 ppm Black B was recovered at pH 2 of the feed phase containing 0.00001 M Na2SiO3, flow rate of 150 ml/min and 0.2 M NaOH. The membrane support also remained stable for up to 36 hours under an optimum condition.
