Abstract
This work aims to expand the structure-property relationships of bromo-containing polyimides and the influence of bromine atoms on the gas separation properties of such materials. A series of intrinsically microporous polyimides were synthesized from 2,2'-dibromo-4,4',5,5'-bipohenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (Br-BPDA) and five bulky diamines, (7,7'-(mesitylmethylene)bis(8-methyldibenzo[b,e][1,4]dioxin-2-amine) (MMBMA), 7,7'-(Mesitylmethylene)bis(1,8-dimethyldibenzo[b,e][1,4] dioxin-2-amine) (MMBDA), 4,10-dimethyl-6H,12H-5,11-methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]diazocine-2,8-diamine (TBDA1), 4,10-dimethyl-6H,12H-5,11-methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]diazocine-3,9-diamine (TBDA2), and (9R,10R)-9,10-dihydro-9,10-[1,2]benzenoanthracene-2,6-diamine (DAT). The Br-BPDA-derived polyimides exhibited excellent solubility, high thermal stability, and good mechanical properties, with their tensile strength and modulus being 59.2-109.3 MPa and 1.8-2.2 GPa, respectively. The fractional free volumes (FFVs) and surface areas (SBET) of the Br-BPDA-derived polyimides were in the range of 0.169-0.216 and 211-342 m2 g-1, following the order of MMBDA > MMBMA > TBDA2 > DAT > TBDA1, wherein the Br-BPDA-MMBDA exhibited the highest SBET and FFV and thus highest CO2 permeability of 724.5 Barrer. Moreover, Br-BPDA-DAT displayed the best gas separation performance, with CO2, H2, O2, N2, and CH4 permeabilities of 349.8, 384.4, 69.8, 16.3, and 19.7 Barrer, and H2/N2 selectivity of 21.4. This can be ascribed to the ultra-micropores (<0.7 nm) caused by the high rigidity of Br-BPDA-DAT. In addition, all the bromo-containing polymers of intrinsic microporosity membranes exhibited excellent resistance to physical ageing.

Abstract
Penetrant-induced plasticization has prevented the industrial deployment of many polymers for membrane-based gas separations. With the advent of microporous polymers, new structural design features and unprecedented property sets are now accessible under controlled laboratory conditions, but property sets can often deteriorate due to plasticization. Therefore, a critical understanding of the origins of plasticization in microporous polymers and the development of strategies to mitigate this effect are needed to advance this area of research. Herein, an integrative discussion is provided on seminal plasticization theory and gas transport models, and these theories and models are compared to an exhaustive database of plasticization characteristics of microporous polymers. Correlations between specific polymer properties and plasticization behavior are presented, including analyses of plasticization pressures from pure-gas permeation tests and mixed-gas permeation tests for pure polymers and composite films. Finally, an evaluation of common and current state-of-the-art strategies to mitigate plasticization is provided along with suggestions for future directions of fundamental and applied research on the topic.

Abstract
The diamine monomer 3,3-bis[4-(3-hydroxy-4-amino-phenoxy)phenyl]phthalide (BHAPPP) was firstly synthesized by the nucleophilic substitution of 5-fluoro-2-nitrophenol and phenolphthalein, followed by a reduction reaction. A series of phthalide-containing poly(ether imide)s (PEI) were then prepared through the polycondensation of BHAPPP with six kinds of dianhydrides, including 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA), 3,3',4,4'-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA), 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), 4,4'-oxydiphthalic dianhydride (ODPA), 1,2,3,4-cyclobutane tetracarboxylic dianhydride (CBDA) and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), as well as thermal imidization. After further thermal treatment, the corresponding thermal rearrangement (TR) membranes were obtained. Due to the existence of the phthalide lactone ring, the PEIs probably underwent TR and crosslinking simultaneously. With the increase of thermal treatment temperature, the mechanical properties of the TR membranes dramatically decreased, but the gas separation properties obviously increased. When the PEIs were treated at 450 °C for 1 h, the CO2, H2, O2, N2 and CH4 permeability of TR(BHAPPP-6FDA) reached 258.5, 190.5, 38.35, 4.25 and 2.15 Barrers, respectively. Meanwhile, the CO2/CH4 selectivity of 120.2 sharply exceeded the 2008 Robeson limit, and O2/N2 selectivity was 9.02, close to the 2015 upper limit. Therefore, the TR membranes derived from phthalide-containing PEIs exhibit superior gas separation performance, andare expected to be applied in the field of gas separation.

Abstract
A series of thermal rearrangement (TR) copolymer membranes were prepared by the copolymerization of 9,9-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenoxyphenyl) fluorene (BAHPPF), 9,9-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl)fluorene (BAHPF) and 2,2'-bis(3,4'-dicarboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA), followed by thermal imidization and further thermal rearrangement. The effects of molar ratio of diamines on the structure and properties of copolymer membranes were studied. The copolymer precursors CP-4:6 and CP-5:5 exhibited excellent mechanical properties. The mechanical properties of precursor membranes rapidly decreased with the increase of thermal treatment temperatures, but the tensile strength of TRCP-4:6 still reached 21.2 MPa. In general, the gas permeabilities of TR copolymers increased with the increase of BAHPF content. Comparatively, TRCP-3:7 and TRCP-4:6 showed higher gas permeabilities, coupled with high O2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivities. Especially, the H2, CO2, O2, N2 and CH4 permeabilities of TRCP-4:6 reached 244.4, 269.0, 46.8, 5.20 and 4.60 Barrers respectively, and the selectivities for CO2/CH4 and O2/N2 were 58.48 and 9.00, which exceeded the 2008 upper bound. Therefore, these TR copolymer membranes are expected to be one of the candidate materials for gas separation applications.

Abstract
The rapid development of advanced high-frequency mobile communication techniques has advanced urgent requirements for polymer materials with high-temperature resistance and good dielectric properties, including low dielectric constants (low-Dk) and low dielectric dissipation factors (low-Df). The relatively poor dielectric properties of common polymer candidates, such as standard polyimides (PIs) greatly limited their application in high-frequency areas. In the current work, benzoxazole units were successfully incorporated into the molecular structures of the fluoro-containing PIs to afford the poly(imide-benzoxazole) (PIBO) nano-fibrous membranes (NFMs) via electrospinning fabrication. First, the PI NFMs were prepared by the electrospinning procedure from organo-soluble PI resins derived from 2,2'-bis(3,4-dicarboxy-phenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) and aromatic diamines containing ortho-hydroxy-substituted benzamide units, including 2,2-bis[3-(4-aminobenzamide)-4-hydroxylphenyl]hexafluoropropane (p6FAHP) and 2,2-bis[3-(3-aminobenzamide)-4-hydroxyphenyl]hexafluoropropane (m6FAHP). Then, the PI NFMs were thermally dehydrated at 350 °C in nitrogen to afford the PIBO NFMs. The average fiber diameters (dav) for the PIBO NFMs were 1225 nm for PIBO-1 derived from PI-1 (6FDA-p6FAHP) precursor and 816 nm for PIBO-2 derived from PI-2 (6FDA-m6FAHP). The derived PIBO NFMs showed good thermal stability with the glass transition temperatures (Tgs) over 310 °C and the 5% weight loss temperatures (T5%) higher than 500 °C in nitrogen. The PIBO NFMs showed low dielectric features with the Dk value of 1.64 for PIBO-1 and 1.82 for PIBO-2 at the frequency of 1 MHz, respectively. The Df values were in the range of 0.010~0.018 for the PIBO NFMs.
