Abstract
The synthesis of an organofunctionalized mesoporous silica was accomplished by a two-step process involving (1) the co-condensation of a silylant agent at the surface of silica, followed by (2) the immobilization of Purpald (ligand) at the organic termination of the silytant agent. The characterization of the organofunctionalized material indicated the presence of NH2 groups, and the immobilization of the ligand was confirmed by 29Si- and 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance. The material’s surface area was determined as 370 m2 g−1. Batch adsorption experiments enabled the determination of optimum pH conditions for the adsorption of Cu(II) and Cd(II). Under optimal pH, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir model provided the best correlations to describe the materials adsorption behavior, suggesting a chemisorption mechanism. When tested in continuous-flow preconcentration experiments, the flow rate and eluent concentration demonstrated to affect the removal of Cu(II) and Cd(II), while the buffer concentration had an effect only over the adsorption of Cu(II). Under optimized preconcentration conditions, it was possible both to determine the concentrations of Cu(II) and Cd(II) in samples such as mineral water, ground water, tap water and river water. Ions commonly found in drinking and natural waters (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe3+, Ba2+, Cl−, SO42−, HCO3−, and H2PO4−) did not affect the preconcentration of any of the studied analytes. Reutilization experiments indicated that the adsorbent material can withstand at least 40 adsorption/desorption preconcentration cycles with no efficiency loss.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Juglans regia L. shells as agricultural waste can be considered as alternative sorbents to minimize the problems associated with heavy metal pollution. OBJECTIVE In this study, J. regia shells (JRS) and JRS modified with hydrazine hydrate (JRS-HH) were used as sorbents and compared for the preconcentration of Cd(II) ions from aqueous solution. METHODS For the characterization of sorbents, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray (SEM/EDX) analysis and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used. For preconcentration, the solid phase extraction (SPE) technique was used. Preconcentration studies were performed by column method and pH, eluent type and concentration, sample volume, flow rate, and interfering ions effect were studied to determine the optimum column parameters. RESULTS The limit of detection (LOD) of the sorbents (JRS and JRS-HH) are 0.31 and 0.18 µg/L, respectively. According to the Langmuir isotherm model for both sorbents, for JRS KL = 0.030 L/mg, R2 = 0.992, 0.016 L/mg, and for JRS-HH KL = 0.016 L/mg, R2 = 0.998 and maximum adsorption capacities of the sorbents were found to be as 29.6 and 65.7 mg/g, respectively. The mean recoveries and RSD values at a 95% confidence level (N = 6) for Cd(II) were 100.9% and 3.42, and 100.6% and 3.79, for the JRS and JRS-HH sorbents, respectively. CONCLUSIONS Using this method good results were obtained when compared with those in the literature and the proposed method was successfully applied to the analysis of the certificated reference material (NIST 1640). HIGHLIGHTS JRS are an effective and inexpensive sorbent for the preconcentration of metal ions when modified. Thus, low-cost agricultural wastes are both recovered and have an economic value.

Abstract
Two new ionic imprinted hybrid polymers (IIHP) and their corresponding non imprinted hybrid polymers (NIHP) were synthesized. The prepared IIHP was highly selective to Cd2+. To prepare the IIHP, 1-vinylimidazole (VIN) was used as the functional monomer, (3-mercaptopropyl) trimethoxysilane (MP) or (3-aminopropyl) trimethoxysilane (AMP) was used as the functional organosilane, trimethylolpropane (TRIM) was used as the crosslinking agent, AIBN was used as a radical initiator and TEOS was used as a functional precursor. The functional monomer was selected considering calculations based on the density functional theory (DFT). The fabricated materials were characterized via field emission gun scanning electron microscopy (FEG-SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The maximum adsorption capacity of Cd2+ was achieved at a pH of 7.2 in the tris-HCl medium. The adsorption test indicated that the reaction followed pseudo second order kinetics, and the equilibrium sorption data fitted well into the Langmuir isotherm model. The relative selectivity coefficients of polymers IIHP-VIN-AMP and IIHP-VIN-MP, as evaluated in binary mixtures of Cd2+ and interferent cations (Pb2+, Zn2+, Hg2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Na+) at different molar ratios, were greater than one due to the presence of specific recognition sites for Cd2+ ions. Moreover, the selective materials exhibited a high reusability and reproducibility in the context of Cd2+ adsorption. These adsorbent materials, specifically IIHP-VIN-MP, exhibited a % removal efficiency of more than 90% for the Cd2+ in river water samples.

Abstract
Traditional bulk polymerization imprinted technology and existing surface imprinted technology have some congenital defects. Therefore, it is necessary to design more efficient surface imprinted technology. In this paper, novel surface imprinting technology with higher imprinting efficiency is well designed. It fully realizes the synchronization of polymer crosslinking and template imprinting. Then the surface imprinted polymers (SIPs) are synthesized using metal ions as a template. The physicochemical characteristics of the SIPs are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) studies, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and elemental analysis. The adsorption performances and recognition selectivity of the SIPs towards the template are investigated by a batch method. The experimental results show that the SIPs possess excellent adsorption ability and selectivity towards the template. The selectivity coefficients of the SIPs prepared in this study are higher than those of IIPs prepared by other imprinting methods. The adsorption process could be well described by the Lagergren-first-order model and Langmuir monolayer chemical adsorption. The SIPs have good chemical stability and reusability. Consecutive adsorption–desorption experiments show that the exhausted SIPs could be effectively regenerated, and the regenerated SIPs could be reused without a significant reduction in adsorption capacity or selectivity coefficient. SIPs have good chemical stability and reusability. They could be reused without a significant reduction in adsorption capacity and selectivity coefficient.![]()
