Abstract
BACKGROUND Herein, a new extraction procedure based on in-situ formation of carbon dioxide-incorporated solid sorbent was introduced for dispersive solid phase extraction of phenolic compounds from aqueous samples. In this study, incorporation of carbon dioxide into the structure of a diamine led to the formation of a solid compound in the sample solution that adsorbed the analytes. RESULTS The sample solution was mixed with isophorone diamine and placed under carbon dioxide stream. By doing so, isophorone diamine reacted with carbon dioxide and produced a carbamic acid analogue. It was dispersed into the sample solution as tiny particles that adsorbed the analytes. The adsorbed analytes were eluted by a volatile organic solvent and concentrated more by the vaporization of the eluate. The extraction procedure was done at low temperature to limit the releasing carbon dioxide from the produced compound. To obtain the reliable results, the method was validated and the obtained limits of detection and quantification were in the ranges of 0.29-41 and 0.96-1.3 ng/mL, respectively. Acceptable relative standard deviation (≤7.3%) and coefficient of determination (≥0.994) values confirmed the method repeatability and linearity. High enrichment factors (410-435) and extraction recoveries (82-87%) were attained with the introduced method. SIGNIFICANCE AND NOVELTY In this work, a chemical reaction was done between isophorone diamine and carbon dioxide in solution. The produced product (sorbent) was insoluble in solution and dispersed in whole parts of the solution as tiny particles. A high contact area between the sorbent and analytes provided high extraction efficiency for the analytes. The method was successful utilized in determining target analytes in real samples and the matrix effect of the samples had no important effect on the obtained results.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the chemical composition and antioxidant capacity of various polar fractions obtained from Dendrobium fimbriatum Hook (DH). First, a 90% ethanol-aqueous extract of DH (CF) was subjected to sequential fractionation using different organic solvents, resulting in the isolation of a methylene chloride fraction (DF), an ethyl acetate fraction (EF), an n-butanol fraction (BF), and a remaining water fraction (WF) after condensation. Additionally, the CF was also subjected to column chromatography via a D101 macroreticular resin column, eluted with ethanol-aqueous solution to yield six fractions (0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%). UPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap-MS/MS analysis identified a total of 47 chemical compounds from these polar fractions, including fatty acids, amino acids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, organic heterocyclic molecules, and aromatic compounds. Moreover, DF, EF, and the 60%, 80%, and 100% ethanol-aqueous fractions had higher total phenol content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC) values and greater 2,2'-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS-) and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)-scavenging abilities. In H2O2-induced HepG2 cells, the aforementioned fractions could increase the activities of antioxidative enzymes NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1), superoxide dismutase (SOD), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and catalase (CAT), stimulate glutathione (GSH) synthesis by increasing the activities of glutamic acid cysteine ligase (GCL) and glutathione synthetase (GS), regulate GSH metabolism by increasing glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and glutathione reductase (GR) activities, and reduce levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA). Furthermore, the antioxidative stress effect of the DH fractions was found to be positively correlated with the activation of nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) protein and the presence of antioxidative chemical constituents. In conclusion, this study highlights the efficacy of both liquid-liquid extraction and macroporous resin purification techniques in the enrichment of bioactive compounds from natural food resources. The comprehensive analysis of chemical constituents and antioxidant effects of different polar fractions from Dendrobium fimbriatum Hook contributes to the understanding of its potential application in functional foods and nutraceuticals.

Abstract
A computationally-assisted and green spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of fostemsavir, a recently FDA-approved drug used in combination with antiretroviral drugs to treat multidrug-resistant HIV-1 infection. The method was developed using computational studies and solvent selection based on green chemistry principles. The density functional theory method was employed to identify bromophenol blue as the preferred acid dye for efficient extraction of fostemsavir. The solvent selection process involved a careful evaluation of the green ranking of solvents, which led to the use of water as the solvent. The method involved the extraction of fostemsavir with bromophenol blue to form a yellow ion-pair complex, which exhibited maximally sharp peaks at 418 nm, enabling sensitive visible spectrophotometric determination of fostemsavir in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations. The extraction procedures were optimized, and the method was demonstrated to be sensitive over the concentration range of 2-12 μg/mL fostemsavir. Furthermore, the method was evaluated with respect to green chemistry principles using the analytical eco-scale, the green analytical method index, and analytical greenness metric approach, all of which confirmed that the data obtained by the proposed method were environmentally acceptable.

Abstract
This work offers preparation of surfactant-modified amorphous carbon and its application in dispersive solid phase extraction of metronidazole and clarithromycin from plasma samples. The extraction procedure was combined with dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction for further preconcentration of the analytes for sensitive determination of the analytes followed by high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector. In this work, first, the sorbent was added to the sample and the mixture vortexed to adsorb the analytes. Then, the obtained supernatant after centrifuging is discarded and the loaded analytes onto the sorbent surface were eluted with a water-miscible organic solvent. In the following, to further enrichment of the analytes the microextraction step was done. For this purpose, the eluate is taken, mixed with a water-immiscible organic solvent, and injected into deionized water. After centrifuging, an aliquat of the sedimented phase is taken and injected into the analytical instrument for the quantitative analysis. Under the optimum extraction conditions, high extraction recoveries (79 and 89% for metronidazole and clarithromycin, respectively), low limits of detection (2.1 and 1.9 ng mL-1 for metronidazole and clarithromycin, respectively) and quantification (7.0 and 6.3 ng mL-1 for metronidazole and clarithromycin, respectively), good repeatability (relative standard deviations less than 4.3% for intra- and 6.3% inter-day precisions), and wide linear ranges (7.3-1000 and 6.3-1000 ng mL-1 for metronidazole and clarithromycin, respectively) were obtained. At the end, the introduced method was applied on the plasma samples of the patients treated with metronidazole and clarithromycin successfully.

Abstract
In the present work, a combination of microwave-assisted extraction with magnetic ionic liquid-based dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction was developed for the extraction of chloramine-T from fish samples. In this method, the sample was mixed with a hydrochloric acid solution and exposed to microwave irradiations. By doing so, chloramine-T was converted to p-toluenesulfonamide and extracted from the sample into an aqueous phase. Then, a mixture of acetonitrile (as a dispersive solvent) and magnetic ionic liquid (as an extraction solvent) was rapidly injected into the obtained solution. In the following, the magnetic solvent droplets including the extracted analytes were isolated from the aqueous solution in the presence of an external magnetic field and after diluting with acetonitrile injected into high-performance liquid chromatography equipped with a diode array detector. Under the optimum extraction conditions, high extraction recovery (78%), low limits of detection (7.2 ng/g) and quantification (23.9 ng/g), good repeatability (relative standard deviations ≤5.8 and 6.8% for intra- and inter-day precisions, respectively), and wide linear range (23.9-1000 ng/g) were obtained. Finally, various fish samples marketed in Tabriz city (East Azarbaijan, Iran) were analyzed with the suggested method.

Abstract
The current study proposed a novel feather fiber-supported liquid extraction (FF-SLE) method for extracting analytes from oil samples. The natural feather fibers were used as the oil support material and directly loaded in the plastic tube of a disposable syringe to construct the low-cost extraction device (∼0.5 CNY). The edible oil without any pretreatment including dilution was added directly to the extraction device, followed by the addition of the green extraction solvent of ethanol. As an example, the proposed method was applied to extract nine synthetic antioxidants from edible oils. The optimized extraction conditions for processing 0.5 g of oil were obtained when the syringe dimension was 5 mL, the extraction solvent was 0.5 mL of ethanol, the amount of feather fibers was 200 mg of duck feather fibers and the static extraction time was 10 min. The applications to seven kinds of feathers and seven kinds of edible oils all indicated the excellent oil removal efficiencies (>98.0%). Combined with high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet, a quantification method was validated with satisfied linearity (R2≥0.994), accuracy (95.8-114.6%) and precision (≤8.3%) with the limits of detection ranging from 50 to 100 ng/g. The proposed FF-SLE method was simple, effective, convenient, low-cost, green and environmental-friendly for the extraction of analytes from oil samples prior to instrument analysis.

Abstract
A polypyrrole (PPy)-cotton pad sorbent enclosed in tea bag envelope was developed and used in micro-solid phase extraction (µ-SPE) for the determination of butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). After extraction, the extract was qualified and quantified by a gas chromatograph equipped with a flame ionization detector (GC-FID). Parameters influencing this developed method and the efficiency of µ-SPE were studied and optimized. Under the optimal conditions, the developed method provided good linearity in a concentration range of 0.100-100 µg L-1 for BHA and 0.050-50 µg L-1 for BHT, respectively. The limits of detection were 39.27 ± 0.52 ng L-1 for BHA and 16.96 ± 0.17 ng L-1 for BHT. Satisfactory relative recoveries of BHA and BHT were achieved in the range from 86.8 ± 1.9 to 117.1 ± 2.3% with acceptable relative standard deviation (RSD) below 8.1%. Good reproducibility was obtained with RSDs < 3.1%, for n = 6. The developed adsorbent is easy to operate, low cost, eco-friendly, reusable, with high extraction efficiency, and was successfully applied in the simultaneous synthetic antioxidant determination of non-alcoholic beverage samples.

Abstract
In this work, for the first time, a polymeric composite based on β-cyclodextrin grafted with polyethylene has been prepared through ball milling and used as an efficient sorbent for dispersive solid phase extraction of metronidazole and clarithromycin from plasma samples. The prepared sorbent was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometry, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. In the extraction process, after precipitating the proteins, the sorbent was added into the sample solution, and the mixture was vortexed to facilitate and speed up the sorption of the analytes onto the sorbent surface. After centrifuging, the sorbent particles were contacted with methanol to elute the analytes under the vortexing process. After this step, an aliquot of the eluate was taken and injected into high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector for quantitative analysis. Under the optimum extraction conditions, the extraction recoveries for metronidazole and clarithromycin were 76 and 83%, respectively. The limits of detection were 2.6 and 2.2 ng/ml for metronidazole and clarithromycin, respectively. The repeatability of the offered approach, expressed as relative standard deviation, was equal to or less than 4.7%. Finally, the method was successfully applied to plasma samples of the patients treated with metronidazole and clarithromycin.

Abstract
This study developed a method for the simultaneous determination of volatile phenol, cyanide, anionic surfactant, and ammonia nitrogen in drinking water, using a continuous flow analyzer. The samples were first distilled at 145 °C. The phenol in the distillate then subsequently reacted with alkaline ferricyanide and 4-aminoantipyrine to form a red complex that was measured colorimetrically at 505 nm. Cyanide in the distillate subsequently reacted with chloramine T to form cyanogen chloride, which then formed a blue complex with pyridinecarboxylic acid that was measured colorimetrically at 630 nm. The anionic surfactant reacted with basic methylene blue to form a compound that was extracted into chloroform and washed with acidic methylene blue to remove interfering substances. The blue compound in chloroform was determined colorimetrically at 660 nm. Ammonia reacted with salicylate and chlorine from dichloroisocyanuric acid to produce indophenol blue at 37 °C in an alkaline environment that was measured at 660 nm. The relative standard deviations were 0.75-6.10% and 0.36-5.41%, respectively, and the recoveries were 96.2-103.6% and 96.0-102.4% when the mass concentration of volatile phenol and cyanide was in the range of 2-100 μg/L. The linear correlation coefficients were ≥ 0.9999, and the detection limits were1.2 μg/L and 0.9 μg/L, respectively. The relative standard deviations were 0.27-4.86% and 0.33-5.39%, and the recoveries were 93.7-107.0% and 94.4-101.7%. When the mass concentration of anionic surfactant and ammonia nitrogen was 10-1000 μg/L. The linear correlation coefficients were 0.9995 and 0.9999, and the detection limits were 10.7 μg/L and 7.3 μg/L, respectively. When compared to the national standard method, no statistically significant difference was found. This approach saves time and labor, has a lower detection limit, higher precision and accuracy, less contamination, and is more appropriate for the analysis and determination of large-volume samples.

Abstract
New ternary deep eutectic solvents were prepared and applied as efficient green dispersing solvents in miniaturized matrix solid-phase dispersion to extract chlorophenols from river sediments for the first time. High-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a photodiode array detector was used to analyze the target analytes. The significant factors affecting the extraction were optimized as follows: dispersant (100 mg), sample (100 mg), ternary eutectic solvents (150 μl), grinding for 1 min, 450 μl of acetonitrile as the elution solvent, and vortex mixing for 20 s. Under the optimal conditions, the method exhibited excellent linearity (correlation coefficient > 0.9980), low limits of detection between 1.039-2.478 μg/g, and extraction recoveries between 93.9% and 99.2%. Furthermore, the method demonstrated excellent precision in the intra- and inter-day analysis with a relative standard deviation below 6%. When compared to conventional extraction techniques, the miniaturized matrix solid-phase dispersion considerably reduced samples and solvent usag, offering important environmental benefits. The green profile of the method was assessed using the complementary green analytical procedure index tool confirming its eco-friendship. The technique was finally employed to evaluate sediment samples from three distinct locations along the Zuibaiji River, indicating its applicability for monitoring environmental samples.

Abstract
AbstractA microextraction procedure that is rapid and simple to extract and preconcentrate ketoprofen and naproxen is proposed. An environmentally friendly supramolecular solvent was applied as an extraction solvent and proved to be efficient in the extraction of ketoprofen and naproxen from environmental water. The design of experiment approach was used to screen, optimize significant parameters, and determine optimum experimental conditions. Under optimized experimental conditions, the vortex-assisted supramolecular solvent dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction provided a good linearity (0.57–700 µg L−1), low limits of detection (0.17–0.24 µg L−1) and extraction reproducibility below 9%. The high percentage relative recoveries (93.6–101.4%) indicated that the method is not affected by matrix. The practical applicability of the method was assessed by analysing ketoprofen and naproxen in river water and effluent wastewater samples. Both analytes were found in effluent wastewater.

Abstract
Antioxidants are food additives largely employed to inhibit oxidative reactions in foodstuffs rich in oils and fat lipids, extending the shelf life of foodstuffs and inhibiting alterations in color, flavor, smell, and loss of nutritional value. However, various research has demonstrated that the inadequate use of synthetic antioxidants results in environmental and health problems due to the fact that some of these compounds present toxicity, and their presence in the human body, in high concentrations, is related to the development of some cancer types and other diseases. Therefore, the development of analytical methods for identifying and quantifying synthetic antioxidants in foodstuffs is fundamental to quality control and in ensuring consumer food safety. This review describes the recent chromatographic and electrochemical techniques used in the detection of synthetic phenolic antioxidants in foodstuffs, highlighting the main characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of these methods, and specific typical features, which include extraction methods for sample preparation and materials used in the working electrode construction, considering chromatographic and voltammetric methods, since these specific features influence the efficiency in the analysis.

Abstract
Synthetic antioxidants play a critical role in the storage and process of edible oil due to that they can retard lipid oxidation, maintain the quality of oils, and prolong the shelf life. However, a series of studies have proved the potential risks of synthetic antioxidants for human health when consumed in excess, and many countries have established the permitted amounts of synthetic antioxidants in oils. Thus, the accurate quantification of synthetic antioxidants in edible oils is necessary, and there have developed various analytical methods involved in chromatographical, electrochemical, and spectroscopic methods. Owing to the complex matrix and the incompatibility between the oil sample and the detection instrument, sample preparation is usually adopted prior to the instrument detection to improve the detection effectiveness. The current review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the recently developed sample preparation methods and analytical techniques applied to determine synthetic antioxidants in edible oils from 2010 to present, with emphasis on the sample preparation methods combined with separation-based analytical techniques such CE and LC with various detectors. The advantages and limitations of some typical analytical methods are discussed and some insights in the future perspectives are also provided in this review. This article is protected by copyright. Abstract
In the current study, combination of microwave-assisted solvent extraction combined with effervescence-assisted deep eutectic solvent-based in-syringe dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction has been developed as a new sample pretreatment method. The offered method was used for the extraction of five triazine pesticides (atrazine, propazine, cyanazine, ametryn, and simazine) from apple samples before their determination by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection. For this purpose, briefly, the apple sample was contacted with a suitable acidified extraction solvent and the mixture was exposed to microwave irradiations. Then, the supernatant was taken and mixed with a few microliters of a low-density deep eutectic solvent. The supernatant phase containing the extracted analytes was injected into sodium bicarbonate solution filled into a syringe. Consequently, the effervescence reaction occurs and the analytes were extracted into the fine droplets of extractant dispersed throughout the solution. Afterward, an aliquot of this phase was analyzed by the chromatographic system. Satisfactory outcomes including high enrichment factors (228-261) and extraction recoveries (67-87%), good repeatability (relative standard deviations equal or less than 3.2 and 5.3% for intra- and inter day precisions), and low limits of detection (0.4-0.7 ng g-1 ) and quantification (1.4-2.3 ng g-1 ) were acquired under the best experimental situations. Abstract
Three hydroxyl-functionalized hypercrosslinked polymers (HCP-POL, HCP-HQ and HCP-PG) were synthesized by Friedel-Crafts reaction. The HCP-HQ displayed the largest surface area and highest adsorption capacity for chlorophenols (CPs). Thus, the HCP-HQ was further modified with magnetism to obtain M-HCP-HQ. An efficient magnetic solid-phase extraction method with M-HCP-HQ as adsorbent was developed for the first time to simultaneously extract four CPs from water and honey samples before analysis by high performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection. Under optimized conditions, the low detection limits (S/N = 3) were obtained to be 0.06-0.10 ng mL-1 for water and 0.80-1.75 ng g-1 for honey. The method recovery was 80.7%-119%, with relative standard deviations below 9.5%. The enrichment factors of the CPs were in the range of 57-220. The extraction mechanism could be attributed to the strong polar interaction, hydrogen bonding and π-π interactions between the M-HCP-HQ and CPs. The M-HCP-HQ based method can be served as a reliable and sensitive tool for detection CPs in water and honey samples.

Abstract
In the extraction process of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the rapid detection of the active components of TCM plays a vital role. We pioneered the choice of dual-spectrum technology based on near-infrared (NIR) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectra and applied it to the quantitative monitoring of online extraction of puerarin and total flavonoids from Pueraria lobata. An online monitoring system was constructed to fulfill the dual-spectrum online monitoring. The extraction solution flows from a flask into a pipeline under the control of a peristaltic pump, removing the solid residues contained in the solution with filters. When the extraction solution flows into the cuvette, it will be measured with NIR and UV-Vis portable spectrometers. After finishing the spectra collection, the peristaltic pump will reverse to push the extraction solution back to the flask. The partial least squares (PLS) models were established to quantitatively analyze puerarin and total flavonoids by NIR, UV-Vis, and dual-spectrum data. As for NIR, UV-Vis and dual-spectrum, the RMSEP (mg/mL) of the puerarin models were 0.0803, 0.0500, and 0.0351, and those of the total flavonoids models were 0.4373, 0.2402, and 0.1795, respectively. The results show that the dual-spectrum online monitoring system is simple, stable and fast (a few seconds) in operation, and accurate in prediction. Compared with individual NIR or UV-Vis spectra, the dual-spectra contains more comprehensive information, and the prediction ability is stronger. This method is expected to become a promising tool for the quantitative analysis of other traditional Chinese medicines.

Abstract
A vortex-assisted dispersive liquid–liquid microextraction (DLLME) method, mated to chemometrics and combined with HPLC/UV detection was optimized and validated for enrichment and determination of repaglinide in environmental samples using nateglinide as an internal standard (IS). A phosphate buffer (10 mM, pH 2.5): acetonitrile (45:55, v/v) was used as a mobile phase with a flow rate of 1 mL/min in an isocratic elution mode. Chemometrics-assisted optimization was performed using a quadratic integrated d-optimal design. The developed model assessed the statistical significance of the independent variables and their interactions to attain the optimum conditions revealing that extractant type, extractant volume and pH are the most influential factors. Optimization of the extraction procedures was performed with the aid of Design Expert 8® software, which suggested 58 different experiments. The optimal conditions were 30 µL of 1-octanol as extractant, 100 µL of acetonitrile as a disperser at pH 8. Under the optimized conditions, the method showed linearity over the range of 1–100 ng/mL with a limit of detection of 0.4 ng/mL. The accuracy, the intra- and inter-day precision were assessed, the %recoveries were found to be between 98.48 and 100.81% with %RSD lower than 1.3. Using chemometrics in method optimization helped achieve the maximum possible enrichment with the least effort, time, and reagents while considering all possible interactions between variables.

Abstract
In this study, an overhead rotating flat surface sorbent based solid-phase microextraction was developed as a rapid and efficient method for simultaneous separation and determination of sulfonamides in animal based-food products. 3D graphene oxide/ lanthanum nanoparticles @ Ni foam was introduced as a novel selective sorbent. SEM-EDX and FT-IR techniques were applied for characterization of the sorbent. At optimum conditions, the linear ranges of 0.4-700.0 (µg L-1), 0.3-900.0 (µg L-1), and 0.25-500 (µg L-1) and the enrichment factors of 606.8, 604.3, 608.9 were obtained for SDZ, SMX, and SMZ, respectively. The LOD (S/N = 3) of 0.14, 0.11, 0.08 (µg L-1) were achieved for SDZ, SMX, and SMZ, respectively. The intra-day and inter-day precision (%) (five days, n = 7) for the concentration of 100 µg L-1 were less than 4.3 and 3.8, respectively. The recoveries over 90.0 % revealed high capability of the method for utilization in complex matrixes.

Abstract
The separation of some water- and fat-soluble vitamins via micellar systems of reversed-phase high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) and pressurized planar electrochromatography (PPEC) was subjected to research. Hence, the influence of the mobile phase composition (surfactant and acetonitrile concentration, eluent buffer pH) on the migration distances and zone separation of some vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pyridoxine, cyanocobalamin, folic acid, ergocalciferol and α-tocopherol) was investigated. Our results indicated that the applied technique has an impact on the solute order. Comparing the system capacity of HPLC and PPEC (measured as height of the theoretical plate) for the mobile phase systems with and without surfactant shows differences, especially for fat-soluble vitamin. The variances and reproducibilities (% RDS) values of the vitamin are less in PPEC than in TLC. Moreover, the migration distances of water-soluble vitamins are longer than fat-soluble ones. Overall, eluent consisting of 50% acetonitrile, 18.75 mM SDS, the buffer of pH 6.99 via the PPEC technique was most appropriate for determining the investigated vitamins in the artificial mixture and the two commercially available vitamin combinations.

Abstract
In this study, several novel and natural hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (D.E.Ss) were prepared using methyl trioctylammonium chloride (M.T.O.A.C) as H.B.A and different types of straight chain alcohols as H.B.Ds. One of the D.E.Ss composed of M.T.O.A.C and n-butanol was advantageously used to develop an ultrasound-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (U.A-D.L.L.M.E) method combined with high-performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet detection (H.P.L.C-U.V) for the determination of some strobilurin fungicides in apple samples. Several important parameters influencing extraction efficiency were investigated and optimised, including the type and volume of extractant in ultrasound stage, sonication time, the type and volume of D.E.S, sample solution pH and effect of salt addition. Under optimal experimental conditions, the method showed good linearity with correlation coefficients (R2) of 0.9985 - 0.9991 in the linear range of 4-1500 μg kg-1, low limits of detection of 1.5-2 μg kg-1 and acceptable extraction recoveries in the range of 76-92%. Enrichment factor was in the range of 95-115. The proposed method was successfully applied for the extraction and preconcentration of trace fungicides in apple samples, and the results demonstrated the potential of the synthesised D.E.S for the extraction and determination of contaminants in aqueous samples.
