Abstract
BACKGROUND Regardless of the most recent inclusion of mold-active agents (isavuconazole and posaconazole) to antifungal agents against mucormycosis, in conjunction with amphotericin B (AMB) items, numerous uncertainties still exist regarding the treatment of this rare infection. The order Mucorales contains a variety of fungi that cause the serious but uncommon fungal illness known as mucormycosis. The moulds are prevalent in nature and typically do not pose significant risks to people. Immunocompromised people are affected by it. OBJECTIVE This article's primary goal is to highlight the integral role that AMB plays in this condition. METHODS Like sinusitis (including pansinusitis, rhino-orbital, or rhino-cerebral sinusitis) is one of the many signs and symptoms of mucormycosis. The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) produces a variety of online information resources for review articles on the topic-based mucormycosis, AMB, diagnosis of mucormycosis and the PubMed® database of citations and abstracts published in life science journals. These resources can be accessed through the NCBI home page at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. RESULTS The article provides a summary of the pharmacological attributes of the various AMB compositions accessible for systemic use. CONCLUSION The article demonstrates the traits of the drug associated with its chemical, pharmacokinetics, stability, and other features, and illustrates their most useful characteristics for clinical application.

Abstract
Severe mucormycosis is a fatal disease rarely complicating chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. We present a fulminant and fatal case of a 74-year-old Caucasian woman suffering from CLL treated with second-generation BTK inhibitor zanubrutinib. After a first septic episode a month prior, originating from the lung with later systemic involvement by an unidentified agent and treated with large-spectrum antibiotics and fluconazonle, a slow-onset enlarging tender warm and erythematous nodular swollen cutaneous lesion appeared in her lower limbs and spread subsequently to her upper limbs, progressing towards central ulceration with a necrotic core. Suspecting a mycotic dissemination from an unknown agent, a skin punch biopsy was performed, and intraconazole was started. Due to spread of the skin lesions, the patient was hospitalized and intravenous liposomal ampthotericin B was started. Histopathology showed an atypical sporangium-rich mycotic angioinvasion of the small vessels. Only the increase of BDG and GM could corroborate the hypothesis of mycotic infection. However, long-term CLL, immunosuppressive therapies, neutropenia, and prior use of azoles and other antimycotic agents were risk factors for mucormycosis; BTK inhibitor could also be added as another novel risk factor. Despite all therapeutic efforts, the patient died. Post-mortem molecular exams confirmed the diagnosis of disseminated mucormycosis.

Abstract
Patients with diabetes often have more invasive infections, which may lead to an increase in morbidity. The hyperglycaemic environment promotes immune dysfunction (such as the deterioration of neutrophil activity, antioxidant system suppression, and compromised innate immunity), micro- and microangiopathies, and neuropathy. A greater number of medical interventions leads to a higher frequency of infections in diabetic patients. Diabetic individuals are susceptible to certain conditions, such as rhino-cerebral mucormycosis or aspergillosis infection. Infections may either be the primary symptom of diabetes mellitus or act as triggers in the intrinsic effects of the disease, such as diabetic ketoacidosis and hypoglycaemia, in addition to increasing morbidity. A thorough diagnosis of the severity and origin of the infection is necessary for effective treatment, which often entails surgery and extensive antibiotic use. Examining the significant issue of infection in individuals with diabetes is crucial. Comprehensive research should examine why infections are more common amongst diabetics and what the preventive treatment strategies could be.

Abstract
Mucormycosis (previously called zygomycosis) is a diverse group of increasingly recognized and frequently fatal mycotic diseases caused by members of the class zygomycetes. Mucormycosis is around 80 times more common in India, compared to other developed countries, with a frequency of 0.14 cases per 1,000 population. The most frequent causative agent of mucormycosis is the following genera from the Order Mucorales Rhizopus, Mucor, Rhizomucor, Absidia, Apophysomyces, Cunninghamella, and Saksenaea. The major risk factors for the development of mucormycosis are diabetic ketoacidosis, deferoxamine treatment, cancer, solid organ or bone marrow transplantations, prolonged steroid use, extreme malnutrition, and neutropenia. The common clinical forms of mucormycosis are rhino-orbital-cerebral, pulmonary, cutaneous, and gastrointestinal. During the second wave of COVID-19, there was a rapid increase in mucormycosis with more severity than before. Amphotericin B is currently found to be an effective drug as it is found to have a broad-spectrum activity and posaconazole is used as a salvage therapy. Newer triazole isavuconazole is also found effective against mucormycosis. This study aimed to review various studies on the laboratory diagnosis and treatment of mucormycosis.

Abstract
Mucormycosis has become increasingly associated with COVID-19, leading to the use of the term “COVID-19 associated mucormycosis (CAM)”. Treatment of CAM is challenging due to factors such as resistance to many antifungals and underlying co-morbidities. India is particularly at risk for this disease due to the large number of patients with COVID-19 carrying comorbidities that predispose them to the development of mucormycosis. Additionally, mucormycosis treatment is complicated due to the atypical symptoms and delayed presentation after the resolution of COVID-19. Since this disease is associated with increased morbidity and mortality, early identification and diagnosis are desirable to initiate a suitable combination of therapies and control the disease. At present, the first-line treatment involves Amphotericin B and surgical debridement. To overcome limitations associated with surgery (invasive, multiple procedures required) and amphotericin B (toxicity, extended duration and limited clinical success), additional therapies can be utilized as adjuncts or alternatives to reduce treatment duration and improve prognosis. This review discusses the challenges associated with treating CAM and the critical aspects for controlling this invasive fungal infection—early diagnosis and initiation of therapy, reversal of risk factors, and adoption of a multipronged treatment strategy. It also details the various therapeutic options (in vitro, in vivo and human case reports) that have been used for the treatment of CAM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM) is a rare and potentially fatal invasive fungal infection which usually occurs in diabetic and other immunocompromised patients. This infection is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Prompt diagnosis and rapid aggressive surgical debridement and antimycotic therapy are essential for the patient's survival. Herein, we reviewed the localization and treatment strategies in patients with ROCM and diabetes as an underlying condition. Furthermore, we report one case of ROCM in our department. MATERIALS AND METHODS From 117 identified studies published in PubMed, 14 publications-containing data from 54 patients-were included. All patients were diagnosed clinically and by histopathological and/or bacteriological analysis for ROCM caused by the order Mucorales. CONCLUSION Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus is one of the main risk factors for ROCM. A successful management of ROCM requires an early diagnosis, a prompt systemic antifungal therapy, and a rapid aggressive surgical debridement including exploration of the pterygopalatine fossa. An orbital exenteration may be necessary.
