Abstract
Csp3–H oxidation of benzylic methylene compounds is an established strategy for the synthesis of aromatic ketones, esters, and amides. The need for more sustainable oxidizers has encouraged researchers to explore the use of molecular oxygen. In particular, homogeneous metal-catalyzed aerobic oxidation of benzylic methylenes has attracted much attention. This account summarizes the development of this oxidative strategy in the last two decades, examining key factors such as reaction yields, substrate:catalyst ratio, substrate scope, selectivity over other oxidation byproducts, and reaction conditions including solvents and temperature. Finally, several mechanistic proposals to explain the observed results will be discussed.

Abstract
Manganese tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin chloride was grafted onto powdered chitosan via an acid–base reaction and ligation. The grafted catalyst was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet and visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectrometry and thermogravimetry. Ethylbenzene oxidation with O[Formula: see text] by the catalyst in the absence of additives and solvents can achieve moderate yields (approximately 30%) of acetophenone and phenethyl alcohol. The grafted catalyst can be reused four times for oxidation reactions. The results indicate that the catalytic activity of manganese tetrakis(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin chloride is promoted by the ligation and grafting function of the amino groups in the powdered chitosan.

Abstract
The design of catalytic systems that can selectively oxidize unactivated C-H bonds under mild conditions is a challenge to chemists. We report here that the manganese(V) nitrido complex [MnV (N)(CN)4 ]2- is a highly efficient catalyst for the oxidation of alkanes by periodate (IO4- ) at ambient conditions. Excellent yields of alcohols and ketones (>95 %) are obtained with a maximum turnover number (TON) of 3000.

Abstract
The investigation of new oxidative transformations for the synthesis of carbon-heteroatom and heteroatom-heteroatom bonds is of fundamental importance in the synthesis of numerous bioactive molecules and fine chemicals. In this context, NaIO4, an exciting reagent, has attracted increasing attention enabling the development of these unprecedented oxidative transformations that are difficult to achieve otherwise. Thus, NaIO4 has been successfully explored as a versatile oxidant for a variety of fundamental organic transformations such as C-H activation, oxidative functionalization of alkenes and other interesting oxidative transformations and its application in the synthesis of bioactive natural products. This review summarizes recent developments in this area with NaIO4 as a versatile oxidant and brings out many challenges that still remain elusive for the future.

Abstract
Ketone in charge: a formal ketone-directed palladium-catalyzed ortho-hydroxylation of arenes has been developed as an effective approach to access o-acylphenols from simple arylketones. A Pd-catalyzed oxidative ortho-carbonylation reaction using ketone directing groups to access a ketal-lactone motif is also demonstrated. The ubiquity and versatile nature of ketones make these methods attractive. BTI=PhI(TFA)(2); DCE=1,2-dichloroethane.
