Phosphotungstic acid supported on silica-coated CoFe2O4 nanoparticles: An efficient and magnetically-recoverable catalyst for N-formylation of amines under solvent-free conditions

Phosphotungstic Acid-Supported Hercynite: A Magnetic Nanocomposite Catalyst for the Selective Esterification of Chloroacetic Acid

This study presents the synthesis and characterization of a novel phosphotungstic acid-functionalized hercynite@SiO2 magnetic core-shell through a three-step procedure. The characterization involved various analyses including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, P-XRD, TGA-DSC, EDAX, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy, elemental mapping, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and value stream mapping. The catalytic performance of the hercynite@SiO2-PTA nanomagnetic composite was examined in the esterification of chloroacetic acid. Results indicate that the developed procedure enables the production of chloroacetic acid esters using a wide range of primary, secondary, and tertiary aliphatic and aromatic alcohols with good to excellent yields and high selectivity. The significance of this work lies in its straightforward synthesis method, minimal time requirement, reduced utilization of hazardous chemicals, and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the catalyst exhibited magnetic recyclability for up to five cycles with negligible loss in activity. Notably, the synthesized catalyst demonstrated nontoxicity and environmental friendliness.

Preparation of magnetic biochar functionalized by polyvinyl imidazole and palladium nanoparticles for the catalysis of nitroarenes hydrogenation and Sonogashira reaction

Catalysts are essential materials in biotechnology, medicine, industry, and chemistry. On the other hand, recycling and using waste materials is important in economic efficiency and green chemistry. Thus, biochar was prepared from the stem and roots of the Spear Thistle to recover waste. After magnetizing the biochar, its surface was modified with polyvinyl imidazole. Finally, this modified biochar was decorated with Pd nanoparticles and used as a selective and recyclable nanocatalyst in the hydrogenation of nitroarenes and the Sonogashira reaction. The structure of this organic-inorganic nanocatalyst has been characterized by FESEM-EDS, XRD, FT-IR, TEM, and VSM techniques. In the hydrogenation reaction with the amount of 30 mg of nanocatalyst, the temperature of 50 °C in the water solvent, the reaction efficiency reached 99% for 30 min. In addition, under optimal conditions for the Sonogashira reaction: 1.0 mmol iodobenzene, 1.2 mmol phenylacetylene, 20 mg MBC-PVIm/Pd, 2 mmol K2CO3 in H2O at 50 C for 15 min, the reaction efficiency reached 95%. The recyclability of magnetic nanocatalysts was investigated and recognized this nanocatalyst can be used several times without notable loss of its activity.

Simple synthesis of novel magnetic silver polymer nanocomposites with a good separation capacity and intrinsic antibacterial activities with high performance

Two new coordination polymers namely, [(AgCN)4LS]n (1) and [(AgCN)3LN]n (2), were successfully synthesized by the reaction of AgNO3 and cyanide as a co-anion with LS[1,1'-(hexane-1,4-diyl)bis(3-methylimidazoline-2-thione] and LN[1,1,3,3-tetrakis(3,5-dimethyl-1-pyrazole)propane] ligands in order to use them for the preparation of magnetic nanocomposites with MnFe2O4 nanoparticles by an efficient and facile method. They were then well characterized via numerous techniques, including elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, TGA, PXRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, VSM, BET, ICP, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The considered polymers and their magnetic nanocomposites with nearly the same antibacterial activity demonstrated a highly inhibitive effect on the growth of Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis) bacteria. By considering the simple separation and recyclable characters of the magnetic nanocomposites, these materials are suitable to be used in biological applications.

Oxidative N-Formylation of Secondary Amines Catalyzed by Reusable Bimetallic AuPd-Fe3O4 Nanoparticles

Bimetallic catalysts are gaining attention due to their characteristics of promoting reactivity and selectivity in catalyzed reactions. Herein, a new catalytic N-formylation of secondary amines using AuPd–Fe₃O₄ at room temperature is reported. Methanol was utilized as the formyl source and 1.0 atm of O₂ gas served as an external oxidant. The bimetallic catalyst, consisting of Au and Pd, makes the reaction more efficient than that using each metal separately. In addition, the catalyst can be effectively recycled owing to the Fe₃O₄ support.

A nickel nanoparticle engineered CoFe2O4/SiO2-NH2@carboxamide composite as a novel scaffold for the oxidation of sulfides and oxidative coupling of thiols

The purpose of this work was to prepare a new Ni-carboxamide complex supported on CoFe2O4 nanoparticles (CoFe2O4/SiO2-NH2@carboxamide-Ni). The carboxamide host material unit generated cavities that stabilized the nickel nanoparticles effectively and prevented the aggregation and separation of these particles on the surface. This compound was appropriately characterized using FT-IR spectroscopy, FE-SEM, ICP-OES, EDX, XRD, TGA analysis, VSM, and X-ray atomic mapping. The catalytic oxidation of sulfides and oxidative coupling of thiols in the presence of the designed catalyst was explored as a highly selective catalyst using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a green oxidant. The easy separation, simple workup, excellent stability of the nanocatalyst, short reaction times, non-explosive materials as well as appropriate yields of the products are some outstanding advantages of this protocol.

Efficient N-formylation of primary aromatic amines using novel solid acid magnetic nanocatalyst

Sulfonic acid functionalized over biguanidine fabricated silica-coated heterogeneous magnetic nanoparticles (NP@SO₃H) have been synthesized, well characterized and explored for the first time, as an efficient and recyclable catalyst for N-formylation of primary amines under mild reaction conditions. Exploiting the magnetic nature of Fe₃O₄, the prepared catalyst was readily recovered from the reaction mixture via an external magnet. The catalyst can be reused for up to six cycles without any substantial loss of catalytic activity. The cost effectiveness, simple methodology, wide substrate tolerance, excellent yield and easy work-up are the additional advantages of present catalytic system.

Nanoceramics and novel functionalized silicate-based magnetic nanocomposites as substitutional disinfectants for water and wastewater purification

Herein, we successfully synthesized nano-porous Co₂O₃/Cu₂O₃: Al₂O₃: SiO₂ ((0, 5, 7, 9) Co-CAS) using the acidic sol-gel approach and calcined at 800 °C for 4 h. The crystallization behavior and spectroscopic properties were investigated using X-ray diffraction, field emission-scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared absorption spectra analysis. The antibiotic properties of the nano-porous CAS, 5Co-CAS, and 9Co-CAS magnetic nanocomposites was studied against some potentially pathogenic bacteria in water and wastewater samples. The bacteria tested included Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Bacillus subtilis. Incorporating Co₂O₃ resulted in the identification of three peaks at 2θ = 10.2°, 13.4°, and 15°. The introduction of cobalt nanoparticles created a ferromagnetic behavior in the CAS nanoceramic, with the magnetic moment and saturation values increasing with increased Co₂O₃ doping. 9Co-CAS was most potent against all the tested pathogens with minimum inhibitory concentrations of 25 mg/L within 40 min for E. coli and P. aeruginosa and 50 mg/L within 10 min for S. enterica; the lowest antibacterial activity was observed with the unmodified CAS. The findings revealed that the manufactured nanocomposite materials were potent disinfectants with a promising application for water and wastewater treatment.

A nickel nanoparticle engineered CoFe2O4@GO-Kryptofix 22 composite: a green and retrievable catalytic system for the synthesis of 1,4-benzodiazepines in water

A composite of Ni nanoparticles incorporated in Kryptofix 22 conjugated magnetic nano-graphene oxide, CoFe2O4@GO-K 22·Ni, was synthesized via the grafting of Kryptofix 22 moieties on the magnetic nano-graphene oxide surface, followed by reaction of the nanocomposite with nickel nitrate. The Kryptofix 22 host material unit cavities can stabilize the Ni nanoparticles effectively and prevent their aggregation and separation from the surface. Characterization of the catalysts by FT-IR, FE-SEM, TGA, ICP, EDX, XRD, VSM and BET aided understanding the catalyst structure and morphology. This catalyst was efficiently applied for the synthesis of 1,4-benzodiazepine derivatives. The main advantages of the method are mild reaction conditions, inexpensive catalyst, it is environmentally benign, has high to excellent yields and shorter reaction times. This organometallic catalyst can be easily separated from a reaction mixture and was successfully examined for six runs with a slight loss of catalytic activity.

12-Molybdophosphoric acid anchored on aminopropylsilanized magnetic graphene oxide nanosheets (Fe3O4/GrOSi(CH2)3–NH2/H3PMo12O40): a novel magnetically recoverable solid catalyst for H2O2-mediated oxidation of benzylic alcohols under solvent-free conditions

In this work, 12-molybdophosphoric acid (H₃PMo₁₂O₄₀, HPMo) was chemically anchored onto the surface of aminosilanized magnetic graphene oxide (Fe₃O₄/GrOSi(CH₂)₃–NH₂) and was characterized using different physicochemical techniques, such as powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), BET specific surface area analysis and magnetic measurements. The results demonstrated the successful loading of HPMo (∼31.5 wt%) on the surface of magnetic aminosilanized graphene oxide. XRD patterns, N₂ adsorption–desorption isotherms and SEM images confirm the mesostructure of the sample. FT-IR and EDX spectra indicate the presence of the PMo₁₂O₄₀³⁻ polyanions in the nanocomposite. The as-prepared Fe₃O₄/GrOSi(CH₂)₃–NH₂/HPMo nanocomposite has a specific surface area of 76.36 m² g⁻¹ that is much higher than that of pure HPMo. The selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde was initially studied as a benchmark reaction to evaluate the catalytic performance of the Fe₃O₄/GrOSi(CH₂)₃–NH₂/HPMo catalyst. Then, the oxidation of a variety of substituted primary and secondary activated benzylic alcohols was evaluated with H₂O₂ under solvent-free conditions. Under the optimized conditions, all alcohols were converted into the corresponding aldehydes and ketones with very high selectivity (≥99%) in moderate to excellent yields (60–96%). The high catalytic performance of the nanocomposite was ascribed to its higher specific surface area and more efficient electron transfer, probably due to the presence of GrO nanosheets. The nanocomposite catalyst is readily recovered from the reaction mixture by a usual magnet and reused at least four times without any observable change in structure and catalytic activity.

Magnetic nickel ferrite nanoparticles as highly durable catalysts for catalytic transfer hydrogenation of bio-based aldehydes

Commercial nickel ferrite (NiFe₂O₄) nanoparticles are efficient, durable and magnetically recoverable heterogeneous catalysts for catalytic transfer hydrogenation of biomass-derived furfural as well as other aldehydes with 2-propanol as the H-donor forming furfuryl alcohol and various aromatic/allyl/alkenyl alcohols, respectively.

Solvent-promoted catalyst-free N-formylation of amines using carbon dioxide under ambient conditions

An unprecedented catalyst-free formylation of amines using CO2 and hydrosilanes was developed. The solvent plays a vital role in promoting the interaction of amines with hydrosilanes and subsequent CO2 insertion, thus facilitating the simultaneous activation of N-H and Si-H bonds. Based on relevant mechanistic studies, a plausible mechanism involving a silyl carbamate intermediate is proposed.

Bi-amino surface functionalized polyoxometalate nanocomposite as an environmentally friendly catalyst: synthesis and dye degradation

In this paper, cobalt ferrite magnetic nanoparticle was modified by N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl amine. Polyoxometalate was immobilized on the modified bi-amino surface functionalized nanoparticle to prepare the environmentally friendly catalyst nanoparticle (EFCN). The synthesized EFCN was characterized using Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction. The EFCN was used for photocatalytic dye degradation. Acid Red 18 and Direct Red 81 were used as model dyes. The effect of catalyst dosage, dye concentration and salt on dye degradation was studied. Dye degradation increases by catalyst dosage. The results showed that decolorization followed a zero-order kinetic model.

Preparation of CoFe2O4/SiO2Nanocomposites at Low Temperatures Using Short Chain Diols

The preparation of 70% CoFe2O4/30% SiO2(wt%) nanocomposites by sol-gel method using three short chain diols (1,2-ethanediol, 1,3-propanediol, and 1,4-butanediol) as chelators was studied. The Fourier transformed infrared spectra and X-ray diffraction patterns were used to confirm the formation of nanocomposites. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the chain length of the carboxylates embedded in the silica matrix influences the formation of crystallized cobalt ferrite as single phase at low temperatures. The influence of the methylene groups number in the precursors and annealing temperature on the nanocrystallite size was revealed. The stability of the obtained compounds was determined by calculation of thermodynamic parameters.
