Abstract
Plasma-based sputtering onto liquids (SoL) is a straightforward approach for synthesizing small metal nanoparticles (NPs) without additional stabilizing reagents. In this work, nonionic surfactant Triton X-100 was used for the first time as a host liquid for the SoL process and the production of colloidal solutions of gold, silver and copper NPs was demonstrated. The average diameter of spherical Au NPs lies in the range from 2.6 to 5.5 nm depending on the conditions. The approach presented here opens the pathway to the production of concentrated dispersions of metal NPs of high purity that can be dispersed in water for future usage, therefore extending further the reach of this synthesis pathway.

Abstract
Palladium and silver nanoparticles (NPs) anchored at the outer surface of ferritin form stable suspension of non-coated particles that possess several catalytic and enzymomimetic activities. These activities are strongly affected by detergents that significantly influence the reaction efficiency and specificity. Reductive dehalogenation of various azo dye substrates shows strong differences in reactivity for each substrate-detergent pair. Reductive dehalogenation is negatively influenced by cationic detergents while catalytic depropargylation is severely impaired by polyethylene oxide containing detergents that is an important finding in respect to potential biorthogonal applications. Moreover, Suzuki-Miyaura reaction is promoted by polyethylene oxide containing detergents but some of them also facilitate dehalogenation. Enzymomimetic peroxidase activity of silver NPs can be detected only in presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) while peroxidase activity of palladium NPs is enhanced by SDS and sodium deoxycholate.

Abstract
Despite their large secretome and wide applications in bioprocesses, fungi remain underexplored in metal nanoparticles (MNP) biosynthesis. Previous studies have shown that cell surface proteins of Rhizopus oryzae play a crucial role in biomineralization of Au(III) to produce gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Therefore, it is hypothesized that purified cell surface protein may produce in vitro AuNPs with narrow size distribution for biomedical and biocatalytic applications. However, different protein extraction methods might affect protein stability and the AuNP biosynthesis process. Herein, we have explored the extraction of cell surface proteins from R. oryzae using common detergents and reducing agent (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) Triton X-100, and 1,4-dithiothreitol (DTT)) and their effect on the size and shape of the biosynthetic AuNPs. The surface proteins extracted with reducing agent (DTT) and non-ionic detergent (Triton X-100) produce spherical AuNPs with a mean particle size of 16±7nm, and 19±4nm, respectively, while the AuNPs produced by the surface protein extracted by ionic detergent (SDS) are flower-like AuNPs with broader size distribution of 43±19nm. This synthetic approach does not require use of any harsh chemicals, multistep preparation and separation process, favouring environmental sustainability. The biosynthetic AuNPs thus formed, are stable in different physiological buffers and hemocompatible, making them suitable for biomedical applications.

Abstract
Branched gold nanoparticles with sharp tips are considered excellent candidates for sensing and field enhancement applications. Here, a rapid and simple synthesis strategy is presented that generates highly branched gold nanoparticles with hollow cores and a ca.100% yield through a simple one-pot seedless reaction at room temperature in the presence of Triton X-100. It is shown that multibranched hollow gold nanoparticles of tunable dimensions, branch density and branch length can be obtained by adjusting the concentrations of the reactants. Insights into the formation mechanism point toward an aggregative type of growth involving hollow core formation first, and branching thereafter. The pronounced near-infrared (NIR) plasmon band of the nanoparticles is due to the combined contribution from hollowness and branching, and can be tuned over a wide range (≈700-2000 nm). It is also demonstrated that the high environmental sensitivity of colloidal dispersions based on multibranched hollow gold nanoparticles can be boosted even further by separating the nanoparticles into fractions of given sizes and improved monodispersity by means of a glycerol density gradient. The possibility to obtain highly monodisperse multibranched hollow gold nanoparticles with predictable dimensions (50-300 nm) and branching and, therefore, tailored NIR plasmonic properties, highlights their potential for theranostic applications.

Abstract
Five-branched gold nanostars are obtained using Triton X-100 in a seed-growth synthesis. They have the uncommon feature of two intense localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs) in the 600-900 and 1100-1600 nm ranges. Both LSPRs convert laser radiation into heat, offering two photothermally active channels in the NIR and SWIR ranges.
