Abstract
BACKGROUND The mucus biomembrane is a primary barrier in delivering drugs to the brain via intranasal delivery. The negatively charged nanoformulations suffer from poor mucoadhesive ability and less retention time in the nasal cavity, which limits further therapeutic efficacy. The positively charged chitosan coating on liposomes may overcome the above issues. Hence, understanding the molecular interactions between the chitosan-coated liposomes and mucin is essential for developing an effective drug delivery system. METHODS The molecular interactions of mucin with sinapic acid-loaded liposomes (SA-LPs) and mucin with chitosan-coated sinapic acid-loaded liposomes (SA-CH-LPs) were assessed using different biophysical instrumental analyses by interpreting the UV-Vis spectra and observing the particle size, polydispersity index, surface charge, and rheological behavior. RESULTS The mucin interaction with SA-CH-LPs showed increased viscosity as compared to SA-LPs with mucin. Moreover, the mucin interaction with SA-CH-LPs showed stronger mucoadhesive properties as compared to SA-LPs with mucin. The electrostatic interaction between positively charged SA-CH-LPs and negatively charged mucin was responsible for the enhanced mucoadhesive property. CONCLUSION The positively charged SA-CH-LPs highly interact with mucin as compared to negatively charged SA-LPs. The mucoadhesive property of SA-CH-LPs could improve the retention of SA in the nasal cavity as compared to SA-LPs. These findings emphasize the importance of chitosan in modulating the mucoadhesive behavior of liposomes. GENERAL SIGNIFICANCE Overall, this study helps to understand the molecular interactions and mucoadhesive nature of the chitosan-coated liposomes with mucin, which is essential for biological activity in the physiological environment.

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of mustard seed extracts on physicochemical and storage characteristics of dry-aged pork loin ham during the aging period. In experiment 1, antioxidant activity was assessed for mustard seed extracted with varying ethanol concentrations and the results showed high antioxidant activity at 25%, 50%, and 75% ethanol concentrations. In experiment 2, pork loin was treated with mustard seed extracts obtained using different ethanol concentrations: not treated (control), 25% (MS25), 50% (MS50), and 75% (MS75). Physicochemical and storage characteristics of pork loin ham were measured in wk 0, 2, 4, and 6. The pH, aw, CIE b*, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and volatile basic nitrogen values were lower in treated samples compared to the control (p<0.05). In conclusion, applying mustard seed extracts, particularly MS75, in the dry-aged pork loin ham production process could enhance storage stability and improve color attributes without having negative impacts on product quality.

Abstract
The solubility parameters, and solution thermodynamics of temozolomide (TMZ) in 10 frequently used solvents were examined at five different temperatures. The maximum mole fraction solubility of TMZ was ascertained in dimethyl sulfoxide (1.35 × 10−2), followed by that in polyethylene glycol-400 (3.32 × 10−3) > Transcutol® (2.89 × 10−3) > ethylene glycol (1.64 × 10−3) > propylene glycol (1.47 × 10−3) > H2O (7.70 × 10−4) > ethyl acetate (5.44 × 10−4) > ethanol (1.80 × 10−4) > isopropyl alcohol (1.32 × 10−4) > 1-butanol (1.07 × 10−4) at 323.2 K. An analogous pattern was also observed for the other investigated temperatures. The quantitated TMZ solubility values were regressed using Apelblat and Van’t Hoff models and showed overall deviances of 0.96% and 1.33%, respectively. Apparent thermodynamic analysis indicated endothermic, spontaneous, and entropy-driven dissolution of TMZ in all solvents. TMZ solubility data may help to formulate dosage forms, recrystallize, purify, and extract/separate TMZ.

Abstract
The information about the solubility and thermodynamic properties of solution is important for pharmaceutically important processes, formulation development, and further theoretical studies. In the present study, the solid-liquid equilibrium (solubility) for itraconazole (ITC) was determined experimentally in 14 monosolvents at temperatures between 293.15 K and 318.15 K under pressure of 0.1 MPa. The mole fraction solubilities were found to increase with increasing temperatures and followed inverse trend with the polarity of selected solvents. Besides, KAT-LSER analysis was performed to study the effect of solvent. The results revealed that the solute-solvent interaction (43.94%) was much higher than that of solvent-solvent interaction (16.59%). Thermodynamic based models like van't Hoff equation, modified Apelblat equation, Buchowski-Ksiazaczak equation, and polynomial empirical equation were applied to fit and correlate the experimental solubilities. Overall relative average deviation (RAD) and overall root-mean square deviation (104×RMSD) were observed to be minimum with the empirical polynomial equation and attained the values of 0.0033 and 0.0047, respectively. Furthermore, theoretical ideal solubilities, activity coefficients, and thermodynamic properties of dissolution including molar enthalpy, molar entropy, molar Gibbs free energy, and excess enthalpy were estimated. Ideal solubilities were projected considerably higher than experimental solubilities at each studied temperature. Thermodynamic properties of dissolution indicated that the dissolution was not a spontaneous process; observed to be endothermic (ΔH0soln>0) and enthalpy driven (ΔS0soln>0). Such solid-liquid equilibrium data of ITC will be of immense help in process and formulation development in pharmaceutical sciences.

Abstract
The solubilization, solution thermodynamics, solvation behavior and Hansen solubility parameters (HSPs) of an anti-inflammatory medicine flufenamic acid (FFA) in various Carbitol + water mixtures were evaluated in this study. The experimental solubility of FFA in mole fraction (xe) was measured at T = 298.2–318.2 K and p = 0.1 MPa using a static equilibrium method. The xe values of FFA in various Carbitol + water mixtures were correlated with van’t Hoff, Apelblat, Yalkowsky–Roseman, Jouyban–Acree and Jouyban–Acree–van’t Hoff models. All the studied models showed good correlation with mean error values of less than 2%. The xe value of FFA was found to increase significantly with the increase in temperature and Carbitol mass fraction in all Carbitol + water mixtures evaluated. The maximum and minimum xe values of FFA were recorded in pure Carbitol (2.81 × 10−1) at T = 318.2 K and pure water (5.80 × 10−7) at T = 298.2 K, respectively. Moreover, the HSP of FFA was found to be more closed with that of pure Carbitol, indicating the maximum solubility of FFA in pure Carbitol. The estimated values of activity coefficients showed higher molecular interactions in FFA–Carbitol combinations compared with FFA–water combinations. Thermodynamic studies indicated an endothermic and entropy-driven dissolution of FFA in all Carbitol + water mixtures. The solvation behavior of FFA was observed as enthalpy driven in all Carbitol + water combinations evaluated.

Abstract
Estimating the solubility and solution thermodynamics parameters of aliskiren hemifumarate (AHF) in three different room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs), Transcutol-HP (THP) and water are interesting as there is no solubility data available in the literature. In the current study, the solubility and solution thermodynamics of AHF in three different RTILs, THP and water at the temperature range from 298.2 to 318.2 K under air pressure 0.1 MP were evaluated. The solid phase evaluation by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD) indicated no conversion of AHF into polymorph. The mole fraction solubility of AHF was found to be highest in 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (HMMHFP) ionic liquid (7.46 × 10−2) at 318.2 K. The obtained solubility values of AHF was regressed by the Apelblat and van’t Hoff models with overall root mean square deviations (RMSD) of 0.62% and 1.42%, respectively. The ideal solubility of AHF was higher compared to experimental solubility values at different temperatures. The lowest activity coefficient was found in HMMHFP, which confirmed highest molecular interaction between AHF–HMMHFP. The estimated thermodynamic parameters confirmed endothermic and entropy driven dissolution of AHF in different RTILs, THP, and water.

Abstract
Gemfibrozil (GEM) is cholesterol-lowering agent which is being proposed as poorly water soluble drug (PWSD). Temperature based solubility values of GEM are not yet available in literature or any pharmacopoeia/monograph. Hence, the present studies were carried out to determine the solubility of PWSD GEM (as mole fraction) in various pharmaceutically used solvents such as water (H2O), methanol (MeOH), ethanol (EtOH), isopropanol (IPA), 1-butanol (1-BuOH), 2-butanol (2-BuOH), ethylene glycol (EG), propylene glycol (PG), polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400), ethyl acetate (EA), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and Transcutol® (THP) at the temperatures ranging from T = 298.2 K-318.2 K under atmospheric pressure P = 0.1 MPa. Equilibrium/experimental solubilities of GEM were recorded by applying a saturation shake flask methodology and regressed using 'van't Hoff and Apelblat models'. Hansen solubility parameters for GEM and various pharmaceutically used solvents were estimated using HSPiP software. The solid states of GEM (both in pure and equilibrated states) were studied by 'Differential Scanning Calorimetry' which confirmed no transformation of GEM after equilibrium. Experimental solubilities of GEM in mole fraction were observed maximum in THP (1.81 × 10-1) followed by DMSO, PEG-400, EA, 1-BuOH, 2-BuOH, IPA, EtOH, PG, MeOH, EG and H2O (3.24 × 10-6) at T = 318.2 K and similar tendencies were also recorded at T = 298.2 K, T = 303.2 K, T = 308.2 K and T = 313.2 K. 'Apparent thermodynamic analysis' on experimental solubilities furnished 'endothermic and entropy-driven dissolution' of GEM in each pharmaceutically used solvent.

Abstract
Abstract
The preset study was undertaken to determine solubility and solution thermodynamics of a novel anticancer drug baricitinib in some pharmaceutically used mono/pure solvents including “water, ethanol, polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400), ethyl acetate (EA), dichloromethane (DCM) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)” at “T = 298.2 K to 323.2 K” and “p = 0.1 MPa”. The solubility of baricitinib after equilibrium (saturation state) was analyzed spectrophotometrically by applying an isothermal technique. Characterization of solid phases of initial and equilibrated baricitinib was confirmed with the help of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Measured solubilities of baricitinib were regressed using “van’t Hoff and Apelblat models”. DSC spectra of baricitinib showed no change in physical state of baricitinib after equilibrium. Solubilities of baricitinib (as mole fraction) were estimated highest in DMSO (1.65 × 10−1) followed by PEG-400 (1.42 × 10−1), DCM (1.29 × 10−3), ethanol (7.41 × 10−4), EA (4.74 × 10−4) and water (1.76 × 10−4) at “T = 323.2 K” and same tendencies were also noted at other temperatures studied. With the help of theoretical solubilities of baricitinib, activity coefficients were estimated. The estimated data of activity coefficients indicated higher molecular interactions in baricitinib-DMSO and baricitinib-PEG-400 as compared with baricitinib-water, baricitinib-EA, baricitinib-DCM and baricitinib-ethanol. Thermodynamic treatment of solubility values of baricitinib showed “endothermic and entropy-driven dissolution” of baricitinib in all pharmaceutically used solvents evaluated.

The purpose of the present study was to determine the solubility of raloxifene hydrochloride (RHCl) in ten solvents: water, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol (IPA), ethylene glycol (EG), propylene glycol (PG), polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400), Transcutol, 1-butanol, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and ethyl acetate (EA) at temperatures of 298.2-323.2 K and a pressure of 0.1 MPa. The solubility data obtained was fitted upon "Apelblat and Van't Hoff" equations. The maximum mole fraction solubility of RHCl was obtained in DMSO (5.02 × 10-2 at 323.2 K), followed by PEG-400 (5.92 × 10-3 at 323.2 K), EA (3.11 × 10-3 at 323.2 K), Transcutol (1.22 × 10-3 at 323.2 K), PG (2.19 × 10-4 at 323.2 K), 1-butanol (1.96 × 10-4 at 323.2 K), IPA (1.47 × 10-4 at 323.2 K), ethanol (7.90 × 10-5 at 323.2 K), EG (6.65 × 10-5 at 323.2 K), and water (3.60 × 10-5 at 323.2 K). Similar fashions were noticed at each studied temperature. The higher solubility of RHCl in DMSO, PEG-400, EA, and Transcutol was possibly referable to their lower polarity in comparison with water. The molecular interactions between the solute and solvent molecules were estimated by calculating parameters like activity coefficients, and more prominent solute-solvent molecular interactions were noted for RHCl-DMSO, RHCl-EA, and RHCl-PEG-400 in comparison with the other solute-solvent combinations. The outcomes of the "apparent thermodynamic analysis" showed that the dissolution of RHCl was "endothermic, spontaneous and entropy-driven" in all investigated solvents. The obtained solubility data of RHCl in commonly used solvents could be useful in the purification, recrystallization, and dosage form design of the drug.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to ascertain the solubility of nitrendipine (NP), an antihypertensive drug in six different pure solvents such as water, ethyl acetate (EA), ethanol, isopropyl alcohol (IPA), polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400), and Transcutol at temperature from 298.15 to 318.15 K under atmospheric pressure (p) of 0.1 MPa. Experimental solubility data of NP was fitted with Apelblat and ideal models. The mole fraction solubility of NP was found maximum in PEG-400 (6.85 × 10-2 at 318.15 K) followed by Transcutol (4.65 × 10-2 at 318.15 K), EA (1.68 × 10-2 at 318.15 K), ethanol (2.83 × 10-3 at 318.15 K), IPA (2.69 × 10-3 at 318.15 K), and water (1.29 × 10-7 at 318.15 K). The dissolution activity of NP was observed as an endothermic, spontaneous, and an entropy-driven in most of studied pure solvents. The solubility data of NP obtained in the present study could be useful in purification, recrystallization, and dosage forms design of NP.

Abstract
The solubility data of recently launched poorly soluble antipsoriatic drug apremilast (APM) in any mono solvent or cosolvent mixtures with respect to temperature are not available in literature. Hence, in this research work, the solubility of APM in twelve different mono solvents namely "water, methanol, ethanol, isopropanol (IPA), ethylene glycol (EG), propylene glycol (PG), 1-butanol, 2-butanol, ethyl acetate (EA), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), polyethylene glycol-400 (PEG-400) and Transcutol®" was determined at temperatures "T=298.2K to 318.2K" and pressure "p=0.1 MPa". Eexperimental solubilities of APM in mole fraction were determined by a static equilibrium method using high performance liquid chromatography at 254nm. Experimental solubilities of APM in mole fraction were correlated well with "Van't Hoff and Apelblat models". The solubilities of APM in mole fraction were recorded highest in DMSO (9.91×10-2), followed by EA (2.54×10-2), Transcutol (2.51×10-2), PEG-400 (2.16×10-2),PG (4.01×10-3), EG (1.61×10-3), IPA (4.96×10-4), 1-butanol (4.18×10-4), 2-butanol (3.91×10-4), methanol (2.25×10-4), ethanol (2.20×10-4) and water (1.29×10-6) at "T=318.2K" and similar results were also obtained at each temperature evaluated. The molecular interactions between solute and solvent molecules were evaluated by the determination of activity coefficients. Based on activity coefficients, the higher solute-solvents molecular interactions were recorded in APM-DMSO, APM-EA, APM-Transcutol and APM-PEG-400 in comparison with other combination of solute and solvents. "Apparent standard thermodynamic parameters" of APM indicated an "endothermic and entropy-driven dissolution" of APM in all mono solvents evaluated. Based on these results, APM was proposed as freely soluble in DMSO, EA and Transcutol, sparingly soluble in PEG0-400, slightly soluble in methanol, ethanol, IPA, EG, PG, 1-butanol and 2-butanol and practically insoluble in water. Hence, DMSO, EA and Transcutol were selected as the best solvents and water and ethanol were selected as the anti-solvents for APM.
