Alteration in membrane-based pumping flow with rheological behaviour: A mathematical model

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE

Blood is complex fluids exhibits the non-Newtonian characters and rheological properties of the blood vary person to person. Typically, the rheological properties of blood are very similar to Carreau fluids which is considered in the present model. The main objective of this study is to examine how a typical membrane-based pumping model will function with varying rheological properties (shear-thinning, Newtonian, and shear-thickening) of fluids.

METHODS

A mathematical formulation is constructed for the membrane-based pumping model using the conservation principles of mass and momentum, and stress-strain relationship based on Carreau fluids model. Velocity slip condition is adopted for this model to discuss the possibility of fluids velocity at the wall surface. The perturbation method is employed to derive the series solution for the governing equations subjected to physical boundary conditions with suitable assumptions.

RESULTS

From numerical results, it is found that the pressure inside the microchannel reduces for the shear-thinning fluid and increases for the shear-thickening fluid with increasing the Weissenberg. In the membrane region, the chaos of the flow field is occurred due to the local pressure gradient by the rhythmic membrane propagation. It is further reported that shear-driven flow is responsible for the decrement in fluid velocity.

CONCLUSIONS

This model provides a framework for estimating the effects of rheological properties and velocity slip for membrane-based pumping model which help in designing the smart pumps for various needs in the fields of biomedical engineering and fluid industries.

Effects of Nonlinear Thermal Radiation and Heat Generation/Absorption on Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Carreau Nanofluid Flow on a Nonlinear Stretching Surface Through a Porous Medium

The present paper introduces a numerical study on the electromagnetic flow of Carreau nanofluid on a nonlinearly surface that stretches in a porous medium under the influence of heat absorption/generation and nonlinear thermal radiation besides the effects of thermophoresis and Brownian motion on the distributions of velocity, temperature, and nanoparticle concentration. The similarity transformations were used in converting the structure of governing partial differential equations into a structure of an ordinary differential equations that subsequently answered numerically by the Runge-Kutta fourth order technique with shooting technique. Also, graphical forms and numerical tables were used to show the results of all effects of physical coefficients that will be presented later in detail. Finally, some results of the study showed a decline in distributing the concentration and temperature of nanoparticles when reinforcing the values of the Lewis number and Prandtl number.

Darcy-Forchheimer couple stress hybrid nanofluids flow with variable fluid properties

The current study provides a detailed analysis of steady two-dimensional incompressible and electrically conducting magnetohydrodynamic flow of a couple stress hybrid nanofluid under the influence of Darcy–Forchheimer, viscous dissipation, joule heating, heat generation, chemical reaction, and variable viscosity. The system of partial differential equations of the current model (equation of motion, energy, and concentration) is converted into a system of ordinary differential equations by adopting the suitable similarity practice. Analytically, homotopy analysis method (HAM) is employed to solve the obtained set of equations. The impact of permeability, couple-stress and magnetic parameters on axial velocity, mean critical reflux condition and mean velocity on the channel walls are discussed in details. Computational effects show that the axial mean velocity at the boundary has an inverse relation with couple stress parameter while the permeability parameter has a direct relation with the magnetic parameter and vice versa. The enhancement in the temperature distribution evaluates the pH values and electric conductivity. Flow analysis of Carreau fluid model induced by the ciliary cells, smooth muscle cells and pressure gradient at the ampullar region entrance

This theoretical analysis considers a biomechanical model in which the Carreau fluid model characterizes the viscoelastic nature of growing human embryo and secreted fluid. This model incorporates transport mechanisms that involve the swaying motions of ciliary cells, peristaltic contractions of smooth muscle cells and pressure gradient at the ampullar region entrance. Series form solutions of the resulting partial differential equations are obtained using the regular perturbation method. A theoretical estimate of effects of the condition of pressure gradient, geometric parameters and fluid model parameters on the flow variables that have relevance to the problem of growing embryo transport in the human fallopian tube is presented through the discussion of graphs. Furthermore, an analogy between the linearly viscous fluid, and the shear thinning and shear thickening characteristics of the Carreau fluid model is also presented. The pertinence of the obtained results with growing embryo transport in the human fallopian tube revealed that when shear thickening characteristics of the Carreau fluid model are considered then complete mitotic divisions take place properly with an estimated appropriate residue time about 3-4 days. Smaller size trapped boluses of the secreted fluid make the smooth forwarding of the growing embryo in the human fallopian tube when shear thinning characteristics of the Carreau fluid model are taken into account. Key modulators: progesterone ([Formula: see text] and estradiol ([Formula: see text]), prostaglandin [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) and prostaglandin [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) constraint the growing embryo transport.

Analytical Solution for Heat Transfer in Electroosmotic Flow of a Carreau Fluid in a Wavy Microchannel

This article explores the heat and transport characteristics of electroosmotic flow augmented with peristaltic transport of incompressible Carreau fluid in a wavy microchannel. In order to determine the energy distribution, viscous dissipation is reckoned. Debye Hückel linearization and long wavelength assumptions are adopted. Resulting non-linear problem is analytically solved to examine the distribution and variation in velocity, temperature and volumetric flow rate within the Carreau fluid flow pattern through perturbation technique. This model is also suitable for a wide range of biological microfluidic applications and variation in velocity, temperature and volumetric flow rate within the Carreau fluid flow pattern.

Influence of MHD on Thermal Behavior of Darcy-Forchheimer Nanofluid Thin Film Flow over a Nonlinear Stretching Disc

The aim of this research work is to increase our understanding of the exhaustion of energy in engineering and industrial fields. The study of nanofluids provides extraordinary thermal conductivity and an increased heat transmission coefficient compared to conventional fluids. These specific sorts of nanofluids are important for the succeeding generation of flow and heat transfer fluids. Therefore, the investigation of revolutionary new nanofluids has been taken up by researchers and engineers all over the world. In this article, the study of the thin layer flow of Darcy-Forchheimer nanofluid over a nonlinear radially extending disc is presented. The disc is considered as porous. The impacts of thermal radiation, magnetic field, and heat source/sink are especially focused on. The magnetic field, positive integer, porosity parameter, coefficient of inertia, and fluid layer thickness reduce the velocity profile. The Prandtl number and fluid layer thickness reduce the temperature profile. The heat source/sink, Eckert number, and thermal radiation increase the temperature profile. The suggested model is solved analytically by the homotopy analysis method (HAM). The analytical and numerical techniques are compared through graphs and tables, and have shown good agreement. The influences of embedded parameters on the flow problem are revealed through graphs and tables.

Numerical simulation of heat transfer in blood flow altered by electroosmosis through tapered micro-vessels

A numerical simulation is presented to study the heat and flow characteristics of blood flow altered by electroosmosis through the tapered micro-vessels. Blood is assumed as non-Newtonian (micropolar) nanofluids. The flow regime is considered as asymmetric diverging (tapered) microchannel for more realistic micro-vessels which is produced by choosing the peristaltic wave train on the walls to have different amplitudes and phase. The Rosseland approximation is employed to model the radiation heat transfer and temperatures of the walls are presumed constants. The mathematical formulation of the present problem is simplified under the long-wavelength, low-Reynolds number and Debye-Hückel linearization approximations. The influence of various dominant physical parameters are discussed for axial velocity, microrotation distribution, thermal temperature distribution and nanoparticle volume fraction field. However, our foremost emphasis is to determine the effects of thermal radiation and coupling number on the axial velocity and microrotation distribution beneath electroosmotic environment. This analysis places a significant observation on the thermal radiation and coupling number which plays an influential role in hearten fluid velocity. This study is encouraged by exploring the nanofluid-dynamics in peristaltic transport as symbolized by heat transport in biological flows and also in novel pharmacodynamics pumps and gastro-intestinal motility enhancement.
