Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are appealing materials as assistant to resolve environmental pollution issues and as recyclable catalysts for the oxidative degradation of resistant contaminants. Moreover, they can significantly influence the advancement of medical applications for imaging, diagnostics, medication administration, and biosensing. On the other hand, due to unique features, excellent biocompatibility, high curie temperatures and low cytotoxicity of the Iron-based nanoparticles, they have received increasing attention in recent years. Using an external magnetic field, in which the ferrite magnetic nanoparticles (FMNPs) in the reaction mixtures can be easily removed, make them more efficient approach than the conventional method for separating the catalyst particles by centrifugation or filtration. Ferrite magnetic nanoparticles (FMNPs) provide various advantages in food processing, environmental issues, pharmaceutical industry, sample preparation, wastewater management, water purification, illness therapy, identification of disease, tissue engineering, and biosensor creation for healthcare monitoring. Modification of FMNPs with the proper functional groups and surface modification techniques play a significant role in boosting their capability. Due to flexibility of FMNPs in functionalization and synthesis, it is possible to make customized FMNPs that can be utilized in variety of applications. This review focuses on synthesis, modifications, and applications of Iron-based nanoparticles.

Metallosurfactant aggregates: Structures, properties, and potentials for multifarious applications

Metallosurfactants offer important scientific and technological advances due to their novel interfacial properties. As a special class of structures formed by the integration of metal ions into amphiphilic surfactant molecules, these metal-based amphiphilic molecules possess both organometallic and surface chemistries. This review critically examines the structural transitions of metallosurfactants from micelle to vesicle upon metal coordination. The properties of a metallosurfactant can be changed by tuning the coordination between the metal ions and surfactants. The self-assembled behavior of surfactants can be controlled by selecting transition-metal ions that enhance their catalytic efficiency in environmental applications by applying a hydrogen evolution reaction or oxygen evolution reaction. We present the different scattering techniques available to examine the properties of metallosurfactants (e.g., size, shape, structure, and aggregation behavior). The utility of metallosurfactants in catalysis, the synthesis of nanoparticles, and biomedical applications (involving diagnostics and therapeutics) is also explored.

Supra Hydrolytic Catalysis of Ni3 Fe/rGO for Hydrogen Generation

Light metal hydrolysis for hydrogen supply is well suited for portable hydrogen fuel cells. The addition of catalysts can substantially aid Mg hydrolysis. However, there is a lack of clear catalytic mechanism to guide the design of efficient catalysts. In this work, the essential role of nanosized catalyst (Ni3 Fe/rGO) in activating micro-sized Mg with ultra-rapid hydrolysis process is investigated for the first time. Here, an unprecedented content of 0.2 wt% Ni3 Fe/rGO added Mg can release 812.4 mL g-1 hydrogen in just 60 s at 30 °C. Notably, an impressive performance with a hydrogen yield of 826.4 mL g-1 at 0 °C in only 30 s is achieved by the Mg-2 wt% Ni3 Fe/rGO, extending the temperature range for practical applications of hydrolysis. Moreover, the four catalysts (Ni3 Fe/rGO, Ni3 Fe, Ni/rGO, Fe/rGO) are designed to reveal the influence of composition, particle size, and dispersion on catalytic behavior. Theoretical studies corroborate that the addition of Ni3 Fe/rGO accelerates the electron transfer and coupling processes and further provides a lower energy barrier diffusion path for hydrogen. Thus, a mechanism concerning the catalyst as migration relay is proposed. This work offers guidelines designing high-performance catalysts especially for activating the hydrolysis of micro-sized light weight metals.

Chitosan capped trimetallic nanoparticles: Synthesis and their Congo red adsorbing activities

Chitosan capped Fe⁰-based Fe-Pd-Ir (Chi-Fe-Pd-Ir) tri-metallic nanoparticles were fabricated using metal displacement method in presence of sodium borohydride. The preliminary indications of Fe⁰ production were the appearance of pale yellow color with ferric nitrate, NaBH₄, and chitosan. Chitosan was detected by using ninhydrin color test, thermal gravimetric analysis and measurement of relative viscosity. The average molecular weight of chitosan and Chi-Fe-Pd-Ir decreased with increased potassium persulfate concentration. Chi-Fe-Pd-Ir used as an adsorbent for the removal of Congo red. The sorption equilibrium data were fitted into Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherms (DRK). The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity (Q⁰_max), and sorption intensity (n) were estimated to be 93.4 mg/g and 2.0, respectively, from Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm models. The mean free energy was calculated by using DRK isotherm to be 0.15 kJ/mol. Sorption parameters indicate that the Congo red adsorbed on the surface of Chi-Fe-Pd-Ir through monolayer formation via physisorption process. The adsorption of CR on Chi-Fe-Pd-Ir was in good agreement with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Protonated amino group of chitosan was also responsible for the adsorption of anionic CR along with the Fe-Pd-Ir NPs.
