Silica-supported Ni and Co nanooxides: Colloidal properties and interactions with polar and nonpolar liquids

NiFe(CoFe)/silica and NiFe(CoFe)/alumina nanocomposites for the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2

The fumed SiO2 and Al2O3 oxides with a specific surface area of about 80 m2 g–1 were used for the synthesis of Ni(80)Fe(20)/SiO2, Co(93)Fe(7)/SiO2, Ni(80)Fe(20)/Al2O3 and Co(93)Fe(7)/Al2O3 nanocomposites, and numbers between brackets indicate the metal content in wt%, being 10 wt% of the mass of catalysts. Catalytically active bimetallic compositions (NiFe and CoFe) that modified the fumed oxides’ surface were prepared using the solvate-stimulated method with subsequent thermal decomposition and reduction of the metal oxides to corresponding metals with hydrogen. The catalysts were characterized using the TGA in dynamic hydrogen, nitrogen physisorption, and PXRD methods. The complete conversion of carbon dioxide is observed in the temperature range of 350–425 °C at the maximum methane yield of 72–84%. The long-time catalytic test demonstrates the high stability of the catalyst during 5 weeks of exposure to the reaction mixture. The yield of methane was decreased by 3–14% after 1–2 months of long-time testing.

The pH dependent surface charging and points of zero charge. IX. Update

of the points of zero charge (PZC) and isoelectric points (IEP) of various materials published in the recent literature and of older results overlooked in the previous compilations. The roles of experimental conditions, especially of the temperature, of the nature and concentration of supporting electrolyte, and of the type of apparatus are emphasized. The newest results are compared with the zero points reported in previous reviews. Most recent studies were carried out with materials whose pH dependent surface charging is already well-documented, and the newest results are consistent with the older literature. Isoelectric points of Gd(OH)₃, Sm(OH)₃, and TeO₂ have been reported for the first time in the recent literature.

Investigation of adsorption mechanism of phosphate(V) ions on the nanostructured Na-A zeolite surface modified with ionic polyacrylamide with regard to their removal from aqueous solution

The sorption properties of Na-A-type synthetic zeolite, obtained from fly ash with regard to the phosphate(V) ions, were determined. The Na-A zeolite was prepared using hydrothermal conversion of fly ash with aqueous sodium hydroxide. The effects of solution pH and zeolite surface modification by ionic polyacrylamide (PAM) were examined. Both anionic and cationic forms of PAM were applied. The adsorption and electrokinetic data were obtained by means of spectrophotometric measurements, potentiometric titrations and zeta potential determination. It was shown that the presence of ionic polyacrylamide adsorption layers modifies the surface properties of the solid. The resulting composite material (zeolite/polymer) can be applied for effective removal of phosphate(V) ions from the liquid medium. Its regeneration possibilities are also considerable. Additionally, the use of fly ash for zeolite preparation leads to management of hazardous waste material.
