Abstract
In this study, a novel hydrogel, β-cyclodextrin/carbon dots-grafted cellulose nanofibrils hydrogel (βCCH), was fabricated for removal and fluorescence determination of levofloxacin (LEV). A comprehensive analysis was performed to characterize its physicochemical properties. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted, revealing that βCCH reached a maximum adsorption capacity of 1376.9 mg/g, consistent with both Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models, suggesting that the adsorption process of LEV on βCCH was primarily driven by chemical adsorption. The removal efficiency of βCCH was 99.2 % under the fixed conditions (pH: 6, initial concentration: 20 mg/L, contact time: 300 min, temperature: 25 °C). The removal efficiency of βCCH for LEV still achieved 97.3 % after five adsorption-desorption cycles. By using βCCH as a fluorescent probe for LEV, a fast and sensitive method was established with linear ranges of 1-120 mg/L and 0.2-1.0 μg/L and a limit of detection (LOD) as low as 0.09 μg/L. The viability of βCCH was estimated based on the economic analysis of the synthesis process and the removal of LEV, demonstrating that βCCH was more cost-effective than commercial activated carbon. This study provides a novel approach for preparing a promising antibiotic detection and adsorption material with the advantages of stability, and cost-effectiveness.

Abstract
The goal of this study was to use coevaporation to look into how polyether compounds like mephenesin (MEP) can be encapsulated into the host molecule α-cyclodextrin's nanohydrophobic cage. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) investigations, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), and 1H NMR were among the spectroscopic techniques used to describe the inclusion complex. Additionally, Job's plot has been utilized to illustrate how MEP is encapsulated with α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) at a 1:1 molar ratio. The thermal stability of MEP increased after encapsulation according to thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) experiments. Mephenesin fits into the cavity of α-cyclodextrin in a 1:1 ratio, as observed by molecular docking for the inclusion complex to find the most appropriate orientation. This observation is further supported by the Job plot. Furthermore, a comparison was carried out based on a cell viability study between the medication and its inclusion complex.

Synthesis, optical properties, DNA, β-cyclodextrin interaction, hydrogen isotope sensor and computational study of new enantiopure isoxazolidine derivative (ISoXD). Heliyon 2024; 10:e26341. Abstract
A novel isoxazolidine derivative (ISoXD) dye was successfully synthesized and comprehensively characterized. In this study, we conducted a thorough examination of its various properties, including optical characteristics, interactions with DNA and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), molecular docking, molecular dynamic simulation, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Our investigation encompassed a systematic analysis of the absorption and emission spectra of ISoXD in diverse solvents. The observed variations in the spectroscopic data were attributed to the specific solvent's capacity to engage in hydrogen bonding interactions. Remarkably, the most pronounced intensities were observed in glycol, which can establish many hydrogen bonds with ISoXD. Furthermore, our study revealed a significant distinction in the fluorescence behavior of ISoXD when subjected to different solvents, particularly between CHCl3 and CDCl3. Moreover, we explored the fluorescence intensity of the ISoXD complex in the presence of various metals, both in ethanol and water. The ISoXD complex exhibited a substantial increase of fluorescence upon interaction with different metal ions. The utilization of DFT calculations allowed us to propose an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) mechanism as a plausible explanation for this quenching phenomenon. The interaction of ISoXD with DNA and β-CD was studied using absorption spectra. The binding constant (K) and the standard Gibbs free energy change (ΔGo) for the interaction between DNA and β-CD with ISoXD were determined. In docking study, ISoXD exhibited significant docking scores (-6.511) and MM-GBSA binding free energies (-66.27 kcal/mol) within the PARP-1 binding cavity. Its binding pattern closely resembles to the co-crystal ligand veliparib, and during a 100ns MD simulation, ISoXD displayed strong stability and formed robust hydrogen bonds with key amino acids. These findings suggest ISoXD's potential as a PARP-1 inhibitor for further investigation in therapeutic development.

Abstract
The co-evaporation approach was used to examine the host-guest interaction and to explore the cytotoxic and antibacterial properties of an important anti-cancer medication, 6-mercaptopurine monohydrate (6-MP) with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). The UV-Vis investigation confirmed the inclusion complex's (IC) 1 : 1 stoichiometry and was also utilized to oversee the viability of this inclusion process. FTIR, NMR, and XRD, among other spectrometric techniques, revealed the mechanism of molecular interactions between β-CD and 6-MP which was further hypothesized by DFT to verify tentative outcomes. TGA and DSC studies revealed that 6-MP's thermal stability increased after encapsulation. Because of the protection of drug 6-MP by β-CD, the formed IC was found to have higher photostability. This work also predicts the release behavior of 6-MP in the presence of CT-DNA without any chemical changes. An evaluation of the complex's antibacterial activity in vitro revealed that it was more effective than pure 6-MP. The in vitro cytotoxic activity against the human kidney cancer cell line (ACHN) was also found to be significant for the IC (IC50 = 4.18 μM) compared to that of pure 6-MP (IC50 = 5.49 μM). These findings suggest that 6-MP incorporation via β-CD may result in 6-MP stability and effective presentation of its solubility, cytotoxic and antibacterial properties.

Abstract
Traditional drugs have the disadvantages of poor permeability and low solubility, which makes the utilization of pesticides lower and brings many side effects. With the continuous development of supramolecular chemistry in recent years, it has also played an irreplaceable role in the field of pharmaceutical science. Supramolecular macrocycles, such as crown ethers, cyclodextrins, calixarenes, pillararenes and cucurbiturils, are potentially good candidates for drug carriers due to their biocompatibility, hydrophobic cavity and ease of derivatization. The encapsulation of drugs based on host-guest interaction has the advantage of being adjustable and reversible as well as improving the low availability of drugs. Here, the recent advances in methods and strategies for drug encapsulation and release based on supramolecular macrocycles with host-guest interactions have been systematically summarized, laying a bright foundation for the development of novel nanopesticide preparations in the future and pointing out future directions of novel biopesticide research.

Abstract
In our study Voriconazole (VOR) was selected as an active agent to be used for the treatment of ocular fungal infections. To overcome low aqueous solubility of VOR, inclusion complexes with α-cyclodextrin (α-CD), β-cyclodextrin (β-CD), γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD), hydroxypropyl-cyclodextrin (HP-CD), hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) hydroxypropyl-γ-cyclodextrin (HP-γ-CD), methyl-β-cyclodextrin (M-β-CD) and sulfabutylether-β-cyclodextrin (SBE-β-CD) were formulated. Characterization studies revealed that inclusion complexes were formulated successfully with lyophilization method. Aqueous solubility of VOR was enhanced up to 86 fold with the formation of the inclusion complexes. MTT analyses results revealed the safety of the complexes on 3T3 mouse fibroblast cell lines while Microbroth Dilution Method revealed the remarkable antifungal activities of the complexes. Analyses results revealed that inclusion complexes will overcome the poor ocular bioavailability of VOR resulting in efficient treatment of severe ocular fungal infections.

Abstract
In this work, we investigated aggregation of native DNA and thiacalix[4]arene derivative bearing eight terminal amino groups in cone configuration using various redox probes on the glassy carbon electrode. It was shown that sorption transfer of the aggregates on the surface of the electrode covered with carbon black resulted in changes in electrostatic interactions and diffusional permeability of the surface layer. Such changes alter the signals of ferricyanide ion, methylene green and hydroquinone as redox probes to a degree depending on their specific interactions with DNA and own charge. Inclusion of DNA in the surface layer was independently confirmed by scanning electron microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and experiments with doxorubicin as a model intercalator. Thermal denaturing of DNA affected the charge separation on the electrode interface and the signals of redox probes. Using hydroquinone, less sensitive to electrostatic interactions, made it possible to determine from 10 pM to 1.0 nM doxorubicin (limit of detection 3 pM) after 10 min incubation. Stabilizers present in the commercial medications did not alter the signal. The DNA sensors developed can find future application in the assessment of the complexes formed by DNA and macrocycles as delivery agents for small chemical species.
