Abstract
The surface characteristics of stimuli-responsive Pickering emulsifiers can be modified by external environmental triggers, making them highly versatile in various applications. In this study, we report three novel organic-inorganic composite structure emulsifiers. These emulsifiers were designed with a core of magnetic Fe3O4 particles, surrounded by a protective silica layer, and coated on the exterior with three distinct types of modified chitosan (CS). Experimental results demonstrate that these emulsifiers can stabilize emulsion systems consisting of liquid paraffin and deionized water at a concentration of 0.5 wt%. The unique properties of the modified CS coatings allowed for the controlled demulsification of two types of emulsions by adjusting the proton concentration. Additionally, these emulsifiers exhibited magnetic-responsive demulsification under the control of an external magnetic field. The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the design and construction of multi-responsive chitosan-based magnetic Pickering emulsifiers with controllable properties.

Abstract
The enormous demand for petroleum consumption has resulted in the shortage of fossil resources, prompting the need to explore unconventional reservoirs. Polyacrylamide emulsion drag reducers are capable of inhibiting the turbulence of fracturing fluids for enhancing the reservoir stimulation results, but the poor dissolution efficiency of polyacrylamide emulsion drag reducers is the primary limitation to their large-scale application. Here, a pH-responsive ionic liquid surfactant, oleic acid/cyclohexanediamine (HOA/HMDA), is synthesized by using oleic acid (HOA) and cyclohexanediamine (HMDA). HOA/HMDA shows a remarkable pH-responsive behavior due to the pH-induced deconstruction of the HOA/HMDA structure. Interestingly, the HOA/HMDA-stabilized monomer emulsion exhibits an obvious pH-induced emulsion structure transformation behavior. In addition, the HOA/HMDA-stabilized monomer emulsion possesses excellent dynamic and storage stability, supporting the inverse emulsion polymerization of the polymer P(AM/AMPS/AA). The obtained P(AM/AMPS/AA) polymer inverse emulsions maintained stability for 30 days. Our finding proposes that the structure of the P(AM/AMPS/AA) polymer inverse emulsions changes with pH stimulation, which is capable of facilitating the release of polymers. P(AM/AMPS/AA) is released from the P(AM/AMPS/AA) polymer inverse emulsions within 30 s at a pH value of 12.06, along with a drag reduction rate of 62.54%. Obviously, the HOA/HMDA-stabilized P(AM/AMPS/AA) polymer inverse emulsions eliminate the contradiction between the stability and release of polyacrylamide emulsion drag reducers, which is promising for meeting the demands of reservoir stimulation.

Abstract
Herein, we describe pH and magnetism dual-responsive liquid paraffin-in-water Pickering emulsion stabilized by dynamic covalent Fe3O4 (DC-Fe3O4) nanoparticles. On one hand, the Pickerinfigureg emulsions are sensitive to pH variations, and efficient demulsification can be achieved by regulating the pH between 10 and 2 within 30 min. The dynamic imine bond in DC-Fe3O4 can be reversibly formed and decomposed, resulting in a pH-controlled amphiphilicity. The Pickering emulsion can be reversibly switched between stable and unstable states by pH at least three times. On the other hand, the magnetic Fe3O4 core of DC-Fe3O4 allowed rapid separation of the oil droplets from Pickering emulsions under an external magnetic field within 40 s, which was a good extraction system for purifying the aqueous solution contaminated by rhodamine B. The dual responsiveness enables Pickering emulsions to have better control of their stability and to be applied more broadly.

Abstract
Improved oil recovery (IOR) includes enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and other technologies (i.e. fracturing, water injection optimization, etc.), have become important methods to increase the oil/gas production in petroleum industry. However, conventional flooding systems always encounter the problems of low efficiency, high cost and complicated synthetic procedures for harsh reservoirs conditions. In recent decades, the supramolecular interactions are introduced into IOR processes to simplify the synthetic procedures, alter their structures and properties with bespoke functionalities and responsiveness suitable for different conditions. Herein, we primarily review the fundamentals of several supramolecular interactions, including hydrophobic association, hydrogen bond, electrostatic interaction, host-guest recognition, metal-ligand coordination and dynamic covalent bond from intrinsic principles and extrinsic functions. Then, the descriptions of supramolecular interactions in IOR processes from categories and advances are focused on the following variables: polymer, surfactant, surfactant/polymer (SP) complex for EOR and viscoelasticity surfactant (VES) for clean hydraulic fracturing aspects. Finally, the field applications, challenges and prospects for supramolecular interactions in IOR processes are involved and systematically addressed. The development of supramolecular interactions can open the way toward adaptive and evolutive IOR technology, a further step towards the cost-effective production of petroleum industry.

Abstract
Developing solid-free nanoemulsions with pH responsiveness is desirable in enhanced oil recovery (EOR) applications. Here, we report the synthesis of an interfacial activity controllable surfactant (T−DBA) through dynamic imine bonding between taurine (T) and p-decyloxybenzaldehyde (DBA). Instead of macroemulsions, nanoemulsions can be prepared by using T−DBA as an emulsifier. The dynamic imine bond of T−DBA enables switching between the active and inactive states in response to pH. This switching of interfacial activity was used to gate the stability of nanoemulsions, thus enabling us to turn the nanoemulsions off and on. Using such dynamic imine bonds to govern nanoemulsion stability could enable intelligent control of many processes such as heavy oil recovery and interfacial reactions.
