Evaluating the corrosion inhibition properties of novel 1,2,3-triazolyl nucleosides and their synergistic effect with iodide ions against mild steel corrosion in HCl: A combined experimental and computational exploration

Fabrication of Protective Organic Layer Using Schiff-Base Metal Complex Responsible for Excellent Corrosion Performance: Experimental and Theoretical Perspectives

The effectiveness of a copper(II) complex with a Schiff base derived from 2-amino-4-phenyl-5-methylthiazole and salicylaldehyde (APMS) as a corrosion inhibitor for XC18 steel in an HCl solution was investigated. Experimental findings indicated a slight negative correlation between inhibition efficiencies in 1 M HCl and temperature but a positive correlation with both inhibitor concentration and immersion time, respectively. The weight loss measurement revealed that APMS achieved a maximum inhibition rate of 92.07% at 303 K. A fitting analysis demonstrated that APMS adheres to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The electrochemical results revealed an enhanced inhibitive performance of APMS, with the efficiency increasing as concentrations increased, ultimately reaching a peak of 94.47% at 5 × 10-3 mol L-1. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements revealed that APMS acted as a mixed-type inhibitor without affecting the corrosion mechanism. Scanning electron microscopy investigations of the metal surfaces corroborated the presence of an adsorbed organic layer. Advanced theoretical calculations utilizing density functional theory and first-principles density-functional tight-binding were conducted to gain insights into the behavior of APMS on the metal surface. APMS derives its advantages from crucial inter- and intramolecular interactions, resulting in the formation of a resilient adsorption layer, in line with the experimental findings. It is found that the presence of the APMS-based inhibitor exhibits a significant synergistic corrosion inhibition effect. The current study offers a design direction for enhancing the structural characteristics of Schiff base metal complexes, laying the groundwork for multifunctional frameworks to minimize corrosion rates with considerations for real-world use and cost-efficiency. The ability to replace harmful, expensive constituents with sustainable, and cost-effective organic alternatives represents a significant outcome of this study.

Synthesis, characterization, synergistic inhibition, and biological evaluation of novel Schiff base on 304 stainless steel in acid solution

A novel Schiff base [4-(morpholin-4-yl) benzylidenyl]thiosemicarbazide (MBT) was created by reaction condensation. The molecules of the products were verified by IR, 1HNMR, MS, and elemental techniques. The synergistic effect of KI with novel MBT on 304 stainless steel (SS) in acidic has been investigated experimentally and theoretically using DFT. The findings demonstrate that restriction efficacy on 304 SS improved with rising inhibitor concentrations, and this benefit was attributed to synergy when KI was injected. From EIS results, IE % increased with a higher concentration of MBT only and MBT + KI (from 100 to 600 ppm). MBT maximum IE % was 84.98%, at 600 ppm. MBT + KI, due to the I- ions synergistic effect, showed an IE% of about 95.48%, at 600 ppm. The adsorptions of MBT and MBT + KI on the surfaces of 304 SS are strongly fitted Langmuir adsorption isotherms. Thermodynamic parameters (Kads, ΔG0ads) were utilized. According to polarization findings, MBT behaves as a mixed-category antagonist. The Schiff base MBT was screened for its in vitro antimicrobial activities against some strains of bacteria and fungi. The result revealed that MBT proved to be an excellent candidate as a fungal agent being able to inhibit Aspergillus flavus.

Construction, Characterization, DFT Computational Study, and Evaluation the Performance of Some New N-Amino Pyridinone Schiff Base Catalyzed with Ceric(IV) Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) as Corrosion Inhibitors in Some Petroleum Applications

In this paper, two novel organic inhibitors, TAP-TPP and TAP-CEQ, were prepared via Schiff base condensation as a green chemistry methodology using an eco-friendly catalyst, ceric ammonium nitrate, with a high yield (87% and 91%), and characterized via elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopic analysis tools. Weight loss assessment was utilized as a chemical testing method, and the maximum inhibition efficiency of TAP-TPP and TAP-CEQ is 89.4% and 91.8%, respectively. PDP and EIS were electrochemical measures to determine the efficacy of both inhibitors as anticorrosion for carbon steel alloys in 2 M HCl aggressive media. The collected electrochemical results demonstrated that both inhibitors behaved as excellent anticorrosion agents for metallic constructions. According to the potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) analysis, these organic inhibitors worked as mixed-type inhibitors. The adsorption isotherm revealed that undertaken compounds obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm with the free energies of adsorption of ranged from ΔG = − 34.29 to − 34.63 kJ Mol−1. Also, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) data confirmed that the values charge transfer resistance (Rct) was increased by increasing the concentration of the injected inhibitor molecules. In contrast, the electrochemical double layer (Cdl) was dramatically decreased. The work was supported by two-surface analysis methods such as SEM and EDX. For more details, the values of percentage inhibition efficiency can be ordered as follows: TAP-CEQ > TAP-TPP. Finally, a suitable inhibition mechanism and theoretical studies including EHOMO, ELUMO, diploe moment (µ), and electrophilicity index (ω) were assumed and discussed in detailed.

Corrosion inhibition of a novel antihistamine-based compound for mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution: experimental and computational studies

Focused on the assessment of the diphenhydramine hydrochloride (DPH) capabilities as an alternative to conventional and harmful industrial corrosion inhibitors, electrochemical techniques were employed. The optimum concentration of 1000 ppm was determined by molecular simulation and validated through electrochemical experiments. The results acquired from the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) study showed that DPH at a concentration of 1000 ppm has a corrosion efficiency of 91.43% after 6 h immersion. The DPH molecules' orientation on the surface was assessed based on EIS predicting horizontal adsorption on the surface. Molecular simulations were done to explore the adsorption mechanism of DPH. The DPH molecules' orientation on the surface was also assessed based on computational studies confirming the horizontal adsorption predicted by EIS.
