Synthesis and Reactivities of Triphenyl Acetamide Analogs for Potential Nonlinear Optical Material Uses

We have synthesized aniline based amides (3a–h) via palladium catalyzed Suzuki cross coupling of N-(2,5-dibromophenyl) acetamide with different arylboronic acids in moderate to good yields. A variety of functional groups were well tolerated in reaction conditions. For exploring the possible applications as optoelectronic devices, the nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of all synthesized derivatives (3a–h) were investigated with the help of density functional theory (DFT) methods. The frontier molecular orbitals analysis and reactivity descriptors were investigated for exploring the reactivities.

Quantum mechanical study of the structure and spectroscopic (FT-IR, FT-Raman), first-order hyperpolarizability, NBO and HOMO-LUMO analysis of S-S-2 methylamino-1-phenyl propan-1-ol

The experimental and theoretical vibrational spectra of S-S-2 methylamino-1-phenyl propan-1-ol (SSMPL). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and FT Raman spectra of SSMPL in the solid phase were recorded and analyzed. The molecular geometry, vibrational frequencies, infrared intensities, Raman activities and atomic charges were calculated using density functional theory calculation (B3LYP) with standard 6-31G(d,p) and high level 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets. Complete vibrational assignment and analysis of the fundamental modes of the compound were carried out using the observed FTIR and FT Raman data. The thermodynamic functions of the title compound were also performed by B3LYP with two basis sets 6-31G(d,p) and 6-311++G(d,p). Stability of the molecule arising from hyper conjugative interactions, charge delocalization has been analyzed using natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show that charge transfer occurs within the molecule. Using the method B3LYP, the dipole moment (μ), polarizability (α) and the hyperpolarizability (β) values of the investigated molecule has been computed. Total energy distribution (TED) was used for the assignment of Unambiguous vibrational fundamental modes. Finally, Simulated FTIR and FT Raman spectra of SSMPL showed good agreement with the observed spectra.

Experimental (13C NMR, 1H NMR, FT-IR, single-crystal X-ray diffraction) and DFT studies on 3,4-bis(isoproylamino)cyclobut-3-ene-1,2-dione

In this work, 3,4-bis(isoproylamino)cyclobut-3-ene-1,2-dione C(10)H(16)N(2)O(2) (I), was synthesized and characterized by (13)C NMR, (1)H NMR, FT-IR, UV-vis spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. DFT method with 6-31G(d,p) basis set has been used to calculate the optimized geometrical parameters, atomic charges, vibrational frequencies and chemical shift values. The calculated vibrational frequencies and chemical shift values are compared with experimental FT-IR and NMR spectra. The results of the calculation shows good agreement between experimental and calculated values of the compound I. The existence of N-H⋯O type intermolecular ve C-H⋯O type intramolecular hydrogen bonds can be deduced from differences between experimental and calculated results of FT-IR and NMR. In addition, the molecular electrostatic potential map and frontier molecular orbitals and electronic absorption spectra were performed at B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level of theory. HOMO-LUMO electronic transition of 4.90 eV are derived from the contribution of the bands π→π* and n→π* The spectral results obtained from FT-IR, NMR and X-ray of I revealed that the compound I is in predominantly enamine tautomeric form, which was supported by DFT calculations.

1,10-Phenanthrolinium hydrogensquarate monohydrate--a non-centrosymmetric structure from two non-chiral agents

The novel hydrogensquarate salt of 1,10-phenanthroline has been synthesized, isolated and structurally elucidated by single crystal X-ray diffraction. 1,10-Phenanthrolinium hydrogensquarate monohydrate (1) crystallizes in the non-centrosymmetric P2(1) space group. Its hydrogensquarate anions form a stable dimer by means of ((Sq))OHc...O=C((Sq)) hydrogen bonds with lengths of 2.509, 2.526, 2.510, and 2.524A. The solvent water molecule interacts with the anion dimers by means of strong and moderate hydrogen bonds HOHc...O=C((Sq)) with bond lengths of 2.782 and 2.845A, respectively. The 1,10-phenanthrolinium cation participates in NHc...OH(2) interactions with the water molecule (bond lengths of 2.810, 2.758, 2.779 and 2.760A). Surprisingly, compound contains four independent molecules in the unit cell. Optical properties were elucidated by means of linear-polarized solid-state IR-spectroscopy and UV-spectroscopy. In addition TGA, DSC, DTA data, positive and negative ESI mass spectra as well as (1)H- and (13)C NMR spectra are presented. Quantum chemical methods were used to calculate the electronic structure, vibrational data and electronic spectra as well as non-linear optical properties of neutral 1,10-phenanthroline and its protonated cation. Second harmonic generation measurements of the novel compound demonstrate that the compound possesses effective d coefficients of 1.9+/-0.5 pm V(-1), value that is about three times higher that of the low temperature form of potassium dideuterophosphate.
