Zinc(II) polymeric compounds with a chelating ligand bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (bispicam) directed by intermolecular C/N/O–H⋯X (X=Cl, Br, I) interactions: Catalytic activities

Enhancing the biological properties of zinc complexes with bis(indolyl)methane groups: Synthesis, characterization, DNA interaction, and biocide activity

The unprecedented mononucleated ligand (6,6-di(1H-indol-3-yl)-N,N-bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)hexan-1-amine (L^C5) with an N₃-donor set and its complexes [Zn(L^C5)Cl₂] • 2CH₃OH (1) and [Zn(L^C5)₂](ClO₄)₂ (2), were successfully prepared. All compounds were fully characterized by a suite of physicochemical methods. Fluid ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, as well as DFT and TD-DFT calculations, were carried out to propose a viable structural arrangement for both complexes. The interaction between these compounds and DNA was monitored in the UV region where binding constants (K_b) were estimated (2 > 1 > L^C5). These data were corroborated by DNA cleavage assays using groove binders, circular dichroism, and docking studies. Both complexes confirmed their biocide activity against selected microorganisms: Gram-positive (S. aureus) and Gram-negative (E. coli) bacteria, the filamentous fungi A. fumigatus and S. cerevisiae. Finally, the cytotoxic activities of 1 and 2 were tested against the erythroleukemia K562 cell line. For all biological studies, it was probed that the presence of the indole moieties and the zinc atoms in the chemical composition of the complexes studied could increase the magnitude of the activity following the order: 2 > 1 > L^C5, where a linear relationship between the biological activity upon K562 cells (IC₅₀) and DNA binding studies (K_b) was found.

A Nanosensor for Naked-Eye Identification and Adsorption of Cadmium Ion Based on Core-Shell Magnetic Nanospheres

Fe₃O₄@SiO₂ nanospheres with a core-shell structure were synthesized and functionalized with bis(2-pyridylmethyl)amine (BPMA). The photoresponses of the as-obtained Fe₃O₄@SiO₂-BPMA for Cr³⁺, Cd²⁺, Hg²⁺ and Pb²⁺ ions were evaluated through irradiation with a 352 nm ultraviolet lamp, and Fe₃O₄@SiO₂-BPMA exhibited remarkable fluorescence enhancement toward the Cd²⁺ ion. The adsorption experiments revealed that Fe₃O₄@SiO₂-BPMA had rapid and effective adsorption toward the Cd²⁺ ion. The adsorption reaction was mostly complete within 30 min, the adsorption efficiency reached 99.3%, and the saturated adsorption amount was 342.5 mg/g based on Langmuir linear fitting. Moreover, Fe₃O₄@SiO₂-BPMA displayed superparamagnetic properties with the saturated magnetization of 20.1 emu/g, and its strong magnetic sensitivity made separation simple and feasible. Our efforts in this work provide a potential magnetic functionalized nanosensor for naked-eye identification and adsorption toward the Cd²⁺ ion.

Interpenetrating frameworks {[Cd(NH₃)₄]₃[Re₃Mo₃Se₈(CN)₆]}X (X = Cl, Br, I) driven by N–H⋯X bonding exhibit remarkable stability and reversible transitions in the solid state.

In the title compound, [ZnCl₂(C₆H₇N)₂], the Zn^II ion (site symmetry 2) adopts a near-regular tetra­hedral ZnN₂Cl₂ coordination geometry. In the crystal, mol­ecules are linked by N—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, generating (100) sheets containing R₂²(8) loops.
