N-bonding vs. S-bonding in thiocyanato-copper(II) complexes

Stereochemical Geometries and Photoluminescence in Pseudo-Halido-Zinc(II) Complexes. Structural Comparison between the Corresponding Cadmium(II) Analogs

Six pseudohalide zinc(II) containing a variety of N-donor auxiliary amines were structurally characterized. These include two mononuclear trigonal bipyramidal [Zn(NTB)(N3)]ClO4·½H2O (3) and [Zn(TPA)(NCS)]ClO4 (4), two distorted octahedral [Zn(1,8-damnph)2(dca)2] (5) and [Zn(8-amq)2(dca)2] (6a) as well as two 1D polymeric chains catena-[Zn(isq)2(μ1,5-dca)2] (7) and catena-[Zn(N,N-Me2en)2(μ1,5-dca)]dca (8), where NTB = tris(2-benzimidazolylmethyl)amine, TPA = tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine, 1,8-damnph = 1,8-diaminonaphthalene, 8-amq = 8-amino-quinoline, isq = isoquinoline (isq) and N,N-Me2en = N,N-dimethylethylenediamine. In general, with the exception of 6 and 8, the complexes exhibited luminescence emission in MeOH associated with red shift of the emission maxima, and the strongest visible fluorescence peak was detected at 421 nm (λex = 330 nm) in the case of Complex 5.

Five-Coordinated Geometries from Molecular Structures to Solutions in Copper(II) Complexes Generated from Polydentate-N-Donor Ligands and Pseudohalides

A novel series of mononuclear five-coordinated pseudohalido-Cu(II) complexes displaying distorted square bipyramidal: [Cu(L¹)(NCS)₂] (1), [Cu(L²)(NCS)₂] (2) and [Cu(L³)(NCS)]ClO₄ (5) as well as distorted trigonal bipyramidal: [Cu(isp₃tren)(N₃)]ClO₄ (3), [Cu(isp₃tren)(dca)]ClO₄ (4) and [Cu(tedmpza)(dca)]ClO₄·0.67H₂O (6) geometries had been synthesized and structurally characterized using X-ray single crystal crystallography, elemental microanalysis, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy, and molar conductivity measurements. Different N-donor amine skeletons including tridentate: L¹ = [(2-pyridyl)-2-ethyl)-(3,4-dimethoxy)-2-methylpyridyl]methylamine and L² = [(2-pyridyl)-2-ethyl)-(3,5-dimethyl-4-methoxy)-2-methyl-pyridyl]methylamine, and tetradentate: L³ = bis(2-ethyl-di(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-[2-(3,4-dimethoxy-pyridylmethyl)]amine, tedmpza = tris[(2-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)ethyl]amine and isp₃tren = tris[(2-isopropylamino)ethyl)]amine ligands were employed. Molecular structural parameters such as nature of coligand, its chelate ring size and steric environment incorporated into its skeleton, which lead to adopting one of the two limiting geometries in these complexes and other reported compounds are analyzed and correlated to their assigned geometries in solutions. Similar analysis were extended to other five-coordinated halido-Cu(II) complexes.

Magnetostructural Studies on Zigzag One-Dimensional Coordination Polymers Formed by Tetraamidatodiruthenium(II,III) Paddlewheel Units Bridged by SCN Ligands

We report herein on three zigzag one-dimensional coordination polymers of {[Ru2(μ-NHOCR)4](μ-SCN)}n (R = o-Me-C6H4 (2), m-Me-C6H4 (3), p-Me-C6H4 (4)) formula. These new compounds have been obtained by reaction of the corresponding [Ru2(μ-NHOR)4(THF)2](BF4) complex with (NBu4)(SCN) under different synthetic conditions. The crystal structure of [Ru2(μ-NHOCC6H4-o-Me)4(THF)2](BF4) (1), 2 and 3 are presented. A cis-(2,2) arrangement of the amidate ligands of the [Ru2(μ-NHOCR)4]+ units is observed in all cases. Interestingly, the structures of 2 and 3 show linkage isomerism in alternated tetraamidatodiruthenium units whose axial positions are occupied by the same type of donor atom of the SCN ligands. This results in zigzag chains with a Ru-S-C angle of 98.97° and Ru-N-C angle of 169.36° in the case of 2 and 97.99° and 159.26°, respectively, in the case of 3. The magnetic data obtained for 2–4 are indicative of a σ2π4δ2(π*δ*)3 ground state (S = 3/2) and a large zero-field splitting (ZFS) in all cases (D = 54.57, 62.72 and 43.00 cm−1 for 2–4, respectively). Similar small antiferromagnetic interactions between diruthenium units (zJ = −0.93, −0.79 and −1.11 cm−1 for 2–4, respectively) are estimated for all the polymers, suggesting an analogous zigzag arrangement of the chains for 4.

Synthesis, structure and magnetic characterization of dinuclear copper(ii) complexes bridged by bicompartmental phenolate

Two series of bridged-phenoxido dinuclear Cu(ii) complexes were structurally and magnetically characterized: [Cu₂(μ-L^Cl-O)(μ-X)](ClO₄)₂ (X = OH⁻, C₃H₃N₂⁻, O₂P(OC₆H₅)₂⁻) and [Cu₂(μ-L^R-O)(X)₂]PF₆·2CH₃CN (R = Cl, CH₃ and X = dca) complexes.
