Abstract
A new Pd(II) complex of formula [Pd(en)(2-pyc)]+ (where, en is ethylenediamine and 2-pyc is 2-pyridinecarboxylate anion) and its reported Pt(II) analogue, i.e. [Pt(en)(2-pyc)]+ have been made by an improved synthetic procedure, yielding above 80%. They have been characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, conductivity and elemental analysis. Single crystal structural determination of [Pt(en)(2-pyc)]+ displayed that the Pt(II) cation in this complex coordinated by 2-pyc and en each as five member chelate resulting in slightly distorted square-planar array. The time-dependent spectroscopic analysis of these compounds in aqueous medium demonstrated their structural stabilities. The cytotoxic activities of Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes, free 2-pyc and carboplatin (as standard drug) were assayed in-vitro against the HCT-116 and MCF-7 as cancerous and MCF 10 A and CCD-841 as normal cell lines. They showed the IC50 order of: carboplatin > 2-pyc > Pt(II) > Pd(II) and lower activities against non-cancerous cells. CT-DNA binding of the Pd(II), Pt(II) and 2-pyc free ligand were explored individually. In this relation, UV-Vis and fluorescence titrations disclosed quenching of CT-DNA absorption and emissions by the compounds via dynamic mechanism and formation of H-bonds and van der Waals forces between them. The interaction was further validated and verified by viscosity measurements and gel electrophoresis. Partition coefficient determination showed that all three compounds have more lipophilicity than cisplatin. Furthermore, docking analysis and molecular dynamics simulation were done to evaluate the nature of interaction between aforementioned compounds and CT-DNA. The finding results demonstrated that these agents interact with CT-DNA via groove binding and were in agreement with experimental results.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
A novel mixed ligand Mn(II) complex of 6-Bromopyridine-2-carboxylic acid (6Brpca) and 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-dipyridyl has been prepared and structurally characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The spectroscopic properties were also analyzed by using FT-IR and UV-Vis spectral techniques. The coordination complexes having transition metal ions are known to have promising optical nonlinearity behavior. Therefore, B3LYP level density functional theory was used to investigate first- and second-order hyperpolarizabilities (β and γ) and provide a deep understanding of the relation between the structure and NLO properties. The calculations of frequency-dependent α, β, and γ at frequencies of ω = 0.0856252 and 0.0428126 au. for 6Brpca and Dmdpy ligands as well as Mn(II) complex have been also carried out using B3LYP/LanL2DZ level. Especially second harmonic generation (SHG) first and second hyperpolarizabilities (β(-2ω;ω,ω) and γ (-2ω;ω,ω,0)) parameters for Mn(II) complex have been calculated as 11448 × 10-30 and 680035 × 10-36 esu, respectively. It has been determined that there is a tremendous increase in β and γ parameters when 6Brpca and Dmdpy ligands coordinate to the high spin multiplicity Mn(II) ion. Theoretical calculations revealed that the large first- and second-order hyperpolarizabilities are caused by strong intramolecular charge transfer between the transition metal and the coordinated ligands. These results indicate that the the organometallic complex under investigation is valuable candidate for optoelectronic and photonic applications.

Abstract
A highly efficient and sustainable water treatment system was developed herein by combining Mn(II), peroxymonosulfate (PMS), and biodegradable picolinic acid (PICA). The micropollutant elimination process underwent two phases: an initial slow degradation phase (0-10 min) followed by a rapid phase (10-20 min). Multiple evidence demonstrated that a PICA-Mn(IV) complex (PICA-Mn(IV)*) was generated, acting as a conductive bridge facilitating the electron transfer between PMS and micropollutants. Quantum chemical calculations revealed that PMS readily oxidized the PICA-Mn(II)* to PICA-Mn(IV)*. This intermediate then complexed with PMS to produce PICA-Mn(IV)-PMS*, elongating the O-O bond of PMS and increasing its oxidation capacity. The primary transformation mechanisms of typical micropollutants mediated by PICA-Mn(IV)-PMS* include oxidation, ring-opening, bond cleavage, and epoxidation reactions. The toxicity assessment results showed that most products were less toxic than the parent compounds. Moreover, the Mn(II)/PICA/PMS system showed resilience to water matrices and high efficiency in real water environments. Notably, PICA-Mn(IV)* exhibited greater stability and a longer lifespan than traditional reactive oxygen species, enabling repeated utilization. Overall, this study developed an innovative, sustainable, and selective oxidation system, i.e., Mn(II)/PICA/PMS, for rapid water decontamination, highlighting the critical role of in situ generated Mn(IV).
