Abstract
A ditopic nitrogen ligand (E)-N′-(pyridin-4-ylmethylene)isonicotinohydrazide (L) containing both divergent pyridyl coordination sites and a hydrogen-bonding hydrazide–hydrazone moiety was synthesized. The Co(NCS)2-mediated self-assembly of L has resulted in the synthesis of a novel 3-dimensional (3D) supramolecular framework (1) that features both coordination and hydrogen bonding interactions. X-ray structural analysis reveals the formation and coordination mode of 1 in the solid state. The rational utilization of coordination bonds and hydrogen bonding interactions is confirmed and responsible for constructing the 3D materials. Catalytic studies using 1 in the presence of an activator are performed for the hydroboration and hydrosilylation reactions of ketones and aldehydes, and the results are compared with previously reported cobalt-based polymeric catalysts.

Abstract
A series of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Th(IV) and UO2(II) complexes have been synthesized from reaction of nitrogen based ligand (L) i.e. N',N'''-((Z)-ethane-1,2-diylidine)bis(2-aminobenzohydrazide)(L) with their salts. Investigation of synthesized metal complexes was achieved by using elemental analyses, magnetic moment, molar conductance, FT-IR, UV/Vis. spectroscopy, thermal techniques and 3D molecular modeling. An octahedral geometry has been suggested for all complexes except for Ni(II) complex (2) which adopted tetrahedral geometry. To through a light on the probability of structure changes with γ-irradiation, the effect of gamma irradiation on powder samples of the complexes [Co(L)Cl2].4H2O (1); [Ni2(L)(OAc)4].5H2O (2) and [Cu(L)Br2].5H2O (3) was investigated after being exposed to high energetic γ-rays at 100 kGy dose (hereafter referred to as (1A,2A,3A, respectively). Spectral, thermal, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance and powder X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD) were performed before and after irradiation. In addition, the in vitro antimicrobial activity of the complexes against Staphylococcus aureus as Gram-positive strain, Escherichia coli as Gram-negative strain and antifungal Candida albicans was performed for both unirradiated and irradiated samples. The obtained results showed that the irradiated complexes were affected, but not greatly by the applied γ-irradiation dose.

Abstract
For the first time, square planar Pd(II) complexes of hydrazone ligands have been investigated as the emissive components of light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs). The neutral transition metal complex, [Pd(L1)2]·2CH3OH (1), (HL1 = (E)-N'-(phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)methylene)isonicotinhydrazide), was prepared and structurally characterized. Complex 1 displays quasireversible redox properties and is emissive at room temperature in solution with a λmax of 590 nm. As a result, it was subsequently employed as the emissive material of a single-layer LEC with configuration FTO/1/Ga/In, where studies reveal that it has a yellow color with CIE(x, y) = (0.33, 0.55), a luminance of 134 cd cm-2, and a turn-on voltage of 3.5 V. Protonation of the pendant pyridine nitrogen atoms of L1 afforded a second ionic complex [Pd(L1H)2](ClO4)2 (2) which is also emissive at room temperature with a λmax of 611 nm, resulting in an orange LEC with CIE(x, y) = (0.43, 0.53). The presence of mobile anions and cations in the second inorganic transition metal complex resulted in more efficient charge injection and transport which significantly improved the luminance and turn-on voltage of the device to 188.6 cd cm-2 and 3 V, respectively. This study establishes Pd(II) hydrazone complexes as a new class of materials whose emissive properties can be chemically tuned and provides proof-of-concept for their use in LECs, opening up exciting new avenues for potential applications in the field of solid state lighting.

Abstract
Two new Zn(II) complexes with tridentate hydrazone-based ligands (condensation products of 2-acetylthiazole) were synthesized and characterized by infrared (IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The complexes 1, 2 and recently synthesized [ZnL3(NCS)2] (L3 = (E)-N,N,N-trimethyl-2-oxo-2-(2-(1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)ethan-1-aminium) complex 3 were tested as potential catalysts for the ketone-amine-alkyne (KA2) coupling reaction. The gas-phase geometry optimization of newly synthesized and characterized Zn(II) complexes has been computed at the density functional theory (DFT)/B3LYP/6–31G level of theory, while the highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO and LUMO) energies were calculated within the time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) at B3LYP/6-31G and B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) levels of theory. From the energies of frontier molecular orbitals (HOMO–LUMO), the reactivity descriptors, such as chemical potential (μ), hardness (η), softness (S), electronegativity (χ) and electrophilicity index (ω) have been calculated. The energetic behavior of the investigated compounds (1 and 2) has been examined in gas phase and solvent media using the polarizable continuum model. For comparison reasons, the same calculations have been performed for recently synthesized [ZnL3(NCS)2] complex 3. DFT results show that compound 1 has the smaller frontier orbital gap so, it is more polarizable and is associated with a higher chemical reactivity, low kinetic stability and is termed as soft molecule.

Abstract
With the increasing life expectancy of the world's population, neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), will become a much more relevant public health issue. This fact, coupled with the lack of efficacy of the available treatments, has been driving research directed to the development of new drugs for this pathology. Metal-protein attenuating compounds (MPACs) constitute a promising class of agents with potential application on the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as AD. Currently, most MPACs are based on 8-hydroxyquinoline. Recently, our research group has described the hybrid aroylhydrazone containing the 8-hydroxyquinoline group INHHQ as a promising MPAC. By studying the known structure-related ligand HPCIH, which does not contain the phenol moiety, as a simplified chemical model for INHHQ, we aimed to clarify the real impact of the aroylhydrazone group for the MPAC activity of a compound with potential anti-Alzheimer's activity. The present work describes a detailed solution and solid-state study of the coordination of HPCIH with Zn2+ ions, as well as its in vitro binding-ability towards this metal in the presence of the Aβ(1-40) peptide. Similar to INHHQ, HPCIH is able to efficiently compete with Aβ(1-40) for Zn2+ ions, performing as expected for an MPAC. The similarity between the behaviors of both ligands is remarkable. Taken together, the data presented herein point to aroylhydrazones, such as the compounds HPCIH and the previously published INHHQ, as encouraging MPACs for the treatment of AD.
