Structural, optical, thermal, mechanical and dielectric studies of Sulfamic acid single crystals: An influence of dysprosium (Dy3+) doping

Hydrazine Sulfonic Acid, NH3 NH(SO3 ), the Bigger Sibling of Sulfamic Acid

The reaction of hydrazine hydrate, N2 H4  ⋅ H2 O, and SO3 leads to hydrazine sulfonic acid (Pca21 , a=849.59(4) pm, b=482.18(2) pm, c=832.17(4) pm). Structure elucidation reveals the zwitter-anionic nature of the compound according to NH3 NH(SO3 ). With the barium salt Ba[NH2 NH(SO3 )]2 (H2 O), a first salt of hydrazine sulfonic acid has been prepared (P1 ‾ $\bar 1$ , a=489.75(5) pm, b=737.52(7) pm, c=1317.4(1) pm, α=88.238(4)°, β=84.761(4)°, γ=79.701(4)°). The compounds were characterized by vibrational spectroscopy, DFT calculations and thermal analyses.

Effect of NaCl on the properties of sulphamic acid single crystals

Single crystals of pure and NaCl doped sulphamic acid (SA) were grown by slow evaporation method at room temperature. The lattice parameters and structure were determined by using single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analyses. The presence of dopant in the SA lattice was affirmed by EDAX analysis. UV-Vis spectra show maximum transmittance in the visible region. The band gap energies were found to be 6.06 eV and 5.70 eV for pure and NaCl doped SA crystals respectively. From the PL specta the emission were observed at 335 and 424 nm for pure and 340 and 428 nm for doped SA crystal. The thermal stability of the grown crystals were analyzed by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TGA/DTA) and revealed that the grown crystals were thermally stable up to 331 °C and 334 °C for pure and NaCl doped SA. Vickers microhardness study reveals that the hardness of the crystals is increase with increasing load. The photoconductivity study shows that the grown crystals are negative photoconductive nature. The Laser Damage Threshold (LDT) indicates the grown crystals have good resistance to laser radiation than a standard Potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) crystal. The Z-scan technique was employed to determine the nonlinear refractive index, nonlinear optical absorption and third order nonlinear optical (TONLO) susceptibility of the grown crystals using He–Ne laser.

Luminescence properties of Dy3+ doped lithium zinc borosilicate glasses for photonic applications

Different concentrations of Dy³⁺ ions doped lithium zinc borosilicate glasses of chemical composition (30-x) B₂O₃ - 25 SiO₂ -10 Al₂O₃ -30 LiF - 5 ZnO - x Dy₂O₃ (x = 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 mol%) were prepared by the melt quenching technique. The prepared glasses were investigated through X-ray diffraction, optical absorption, photoluminescence and decay measurements. Intensities of absorption bands expressed in terms of oscillator strengths (f) were used to determine the Judd-Ofelt (J-O) intensity parameters Ω_λ (λ = 2, 4 and 6). The evaluated J-O parameters were used to determine the radiative parameters such as transition probabilities (A_R), total transition probability rate (A_T), radiative lifetime (τ_R) and branching ratios (β_R) for the excited ⁴F_9/2 level of Dy³⁺ ions. The chromaticity coordinates determined from the emission spectra were found to be located in the white light region of CIE chromaticity diagram.
