Abstract
The selection of an appropriate dressing for each type of wound is a very important procedure for a faster and more accurate healing process. So, the aim of this study was to develop innovative Spanish Broom and flax wound dressings, as alternatives to cotton used as control, with polymeric films containing glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) to promote wound-exudate absorption and the healing process. The different wound dressings were prepared by a solvent casting method, and characterized in terms of drug loading, water uptake, and in vitro release. Moreover, biological studies were performed to evaluate their biocompatibility and wound-healing efficacy. Comparing the developed wound dressings, Spanish Broom dressings with GA-loaded sodium hyaluronate film had the best functional properties, in terms of hydration ability and GA release. Moreover, they showed a good biocompatibility, determining a moderate induction of cell proliferation and no cytotoxicity. In addition, the wound-healing test revealed that the Spanish Broom dressings promoted cell migration, further facilitating the closure of the wound.

Abstract
Background:
18β- glycyrrhetinic acid (Gly) is the major bioactive component of licorice roots and
rhizomes of the Glycyrrhiza glabra species. It shows many activities such as antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant,
antimicrobial, and antifungal, however, its use in the health field is very limited due to the low water solubility.
Methods:
This paper deals with the development of a new technological approach for Gly dissolution rate enhancement.
It consists of Gly intercalation (guest) in the interlamellar spaces between the inorganic spaces (host)
of the anionic clays “hydrotalcites” (HTlc) to obtain hybrids MgAl-HTlc-Gly and ZnAl-HTlc-Gly. Gly can find
applications in both systemic and local therapies, thus advantages of the use of the hybrids in these two fields
were investigated.
Results:
Gly dissolution rate from hybrids in the intestinal environment, site in which it is preferentially absorbed,
resulted enhanced (ZnAl-HTlc-Gly > MgAl-HTlc-Gly) compared to the crystalline form, thereby, making them
suitable for oral administration as dry powder in hard capsules.
:
For a local therapy, bioadhesive, vaginal emulgels loaded with the hybrids were developed. These showed suitable
mucoadhesive property to the vaginal mucosa, necessary to prolong the residence time in the application site.
The emulgel containing ZnAl-HTlc-Gly showed a faster and higher release profile than that containing MgAl-
HTlc-Gly.
Conclusions:
The obtained results suggest that Gly intercalation into HTlc, especially in ZnAl-HTlc, allows to
enhance Gly dissolution when the hybrids are formulated both as oral or topical products.

Abstract
The synthesis of the methyl glycyrrhetinate glycosides and inhibition of α-glucosidase were studied. The carboxyl group of glycyrrhetinic acid was methylated, and glucose and galactose were introduced into the hydroxyl group to obtain compounds 7 and 12. Compound 1, 2, 7, 12 and glycyrrhizic acid (GL) were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against α-glucosidase. As a result, Compound 1, 2, 7, 12 and GL all showed significant α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and IC50 values were 0.465, 1.352, 0.759, 0.687 and 2.085 mM, respectively, and acted as non-competitive inhibitors. The activity of the compound 2, 7, 12 was lower than compound 1, but significantly higher than GL. Therefore, it was concluded that the change of structure in glycyrrhetinic acid by chemical modification had certain effect on bioactivity, and the change of carboxyl group, hydroxyl group and the type of monosaccharide introduced were the influencing factors.

Abstract
This review aims to provide a critical review of the biological performance of natural and synthetic substances complexed with cyclodextrins, highlighting: (i) inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins and their biological studies in vitro and in vivo; (ii) Evaluation and comparison of the bioactive efficacy of complexed and non-complexed substances; (iii) Chemical and biological performance tests of inclusion complexes, aimed at the development of new pharmaceutical products. Based on the evidence presented in the review, it is clear that cyclodextrins play a vital role in the development of inclusion complexes which promote improvements in the chemical and biological properties of the complexed active principles, as well as providing improved solubility and aqueous stability. Although the literature shows the importance of their ability to help produce innovative biotechnological substances, we still need more studies to develop and expand their therapeutic properties. It is, therefore, very important to gather together evidence of the effectiveness of inclusion complexes with cyclodextrins in order to facilitate a better understanding of research on this topic and encourage further studies.

Abstract
It is still controversial whether poor aqueous solubility is the most primary reason for the low oral bioavailability of insoluble drugs. Therefore, in this study, berberine-loaded solid polymeric particles (BPs) of varied dissolution profiles with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as carrier were fabricated using solution-enhanced dispersion by supercritical fluids (SEDS), and the relationship between dissolution and berberine (BBR) bioavailability was evaluated. Dissolution property was controlled via particle morphology manipulation, which was achieved by adjusting several key operating parameters during the SEDS process. Characterization on BP using infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction indicated that BBR was dispersed in amorphous form, while nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy showed that methoxy groups of BBR were included into the cavities of β-CD. In vivo pharmacokinetic studies showed that oral bioavailability increased by about 54% and 86% when the dissolution rate of BBR was increased by 51% and 83%, respectively. The entry speed of BBR into the bloodstream was also advanced with the degree of dissolution enhancement. It seemed that dissolution enhancement gave positive effect to the oral bioavailability of berberine, but this might not be the crucial point. Meanwhile, supercritical CO₂ technology is a promising method for pharmaceutical research due to its advantages in regulating drug-dosage properties.
