Abstract
Amino acids (AAs), serving as the primary monomer of peptides and proteins, are widely present in nature. Benefiting from their inherent advantages, such as chemical diversity, low cost, ease of modification, chirality, biosafety, and bio-absorbability, AAs have been extensively exploited to create self-assembled nanostructures and supramolecular soft materials. In this review article, we systematically describe the recent progress regarding amino acid-derived assembly and functional soft materials. A brief background and several classified assemblies of AAs and their derivatives (chemically modified AAs) are summarized. The key non-covalent interactions to drive the assembly of AAs are emphasized based on the reported systems of self-assembled and co-assembled AAs. We discuss the molecular design of AAs and the general rules behind the hierarchical nanostructures. The resulting soft materials with interesting properties and potential applications are demonstrated. The conclusion and remarks on AA-based supramolecular assemblies are also presented from the viewpoint of chemistry, materials, and bio-applications.

Abstract
A fast proton conductor was investigated in a mixed-valence system of phosphates with a combination of large cations (K+) and small cations (Mg2+), which resulted in a new phase with a tunnel structure suitable for proton conduction. KMg1−xH2x(PO3)3·yH2O was synthesized by a coprecipitation method. A solid solution formed in the range of x = 0–0.18 in KMg1−xH2x(PO3)3·yH2O. The structure of the new proton conductor was determined using neutron and X-ray diffraction measurements. KMg1−xH2x(PO3)3·yH2O has a tunnel framework composed of face-shared (KO6) and (MgO6) chains, and PO4 tetrahedral chains along the c-direction by corner-sharing. Two oxygen sites of water molecules were detected in the one-dimensional tunnel, one of which exists as a coordination water of K+ sites. Multi-step dehydration was observed at 30 °C and 150 °C from thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis measurements, which reflects the different coordination environments of the water of crystallization. Water molecules are connected to PO4 tetrahedra by hydrogen bonds and form a chain along the c-axis in the tunnel, which would provide an environment for fast proton conduction associated with water molecules. The KMg1−xH2x(PO3)3·yH2O sample with x = 0.18 exhibited high proton conductivity of 4.5 × 10−3 S cm−1 at 150 °C and 7.0 × 10−3 S cm−1 at 200 °C in a dry Ar gas flow and maintained the total conductivity above 10−3 S cm−1 for 60 h at 150 °C under N2 gas atmosphere. A fast proton conductor exhibiting high proton conductivity of 7.0 × 10−3 S cm−1 at 200 °C in a dry Ar gas flow was developed by designing water chains in a rigid tunnel framework.![]()

Abstract
Exploring macroscopic chiral materials with extended structures has become an important and fundamental topic in chemistry. To systematically control the chirality of novel organic-inorganic frameworks, histidinium-based cationic structure-directing agents containing specific chiral information are introduced. In this way, two chiral compounds, [(l-hisH2 )MoO2 F4 ]3 ⋅H2 O (L) and [(d-hisH2 )MoO2 F4 ]3 ⋅H2 O (D), and an achiral oxyfluoride, (l/d-hisH2 )MoO2 F4 (LD) (his=histidine, C6 H9 N3 O2 ) have been successfully self-assembled by a slow evaporation method. The structures of these compounds are composed of histidinium cations and distorted [MoO2 F4 ]2- octahedra. Surprisingly, the histidinium cations not only control macroscopic chirality, but also induce O/F ordering in MoO2 F4 octahedra through hydrogen-bonding interactions. Compounds L and D crystallize in the extremely rare polar space group P1, and exhibit positive second harmonic generation (SHG) signals attributable to a net moment originating from the MoO2 F4 groups. Solid-state circular dichroism (CD) spectra indicate that the MoO2 F4 units templated by histidinium cations are chirally aligned through ionic interactions. Crystallization processes influenced by the chirality of the reported materials are also discussed herein.

Abstract
Nine coordination complexes and polymer (M/L/X) based on Co, Ni, Zn, Cu (M), pyridine-N-oxide-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (H2pydco) (L) and either isonicotinamide (Ina), piperazine (pipz), 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) (X) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The resulting empirical formulae of the prepared complexes are [Co(H2O)6][Co(pydco)2(H2O)2]·2H2O (1), [M(pydco)(H2O)4]2 [M = Co (2), Ni (3), Zn (4)], [Co(pydco)(bipy)(H2O)2]·4H2O (5), [Co(pydco)(phen)(H2O)2]·5.135(H2O)·0.18(EtOH) (6), [Cu(Hpydco)(bipy)Cl]·2H2O (7), [Cu(Hpydco)(bipy)Cl]2·2H2O (8), and {[AgCu(H2O)2(phen)(pydco)]NO3} n (9). With the exception of 9, which forms an extended structure via multiple coordination modes, all the complexes contain (H)pydco as a bidentate ligand coordinated to the metal ion via the N-oxide and the adjacent carboxylate group oxygen atom, creating a chelate ring. The metal centers exhibit either distorted octahedral (1-6) or square pyramidal (7-9) geometry. Our results demonstrate that, when acting cooperatively, non-covalent interactions such as X-H⋯O hydrogen bonds (X = O, N, C), C-O⋯π and π⋯π stacking represent driving forces for the selection of different three-dimensional structures. Moreover, in compounds 2-4, 1D supramolecular chains are formed where O⋯π-hole interactions are established, which unexpectedly involve the non-coordinated carboxylate group. The non-covalent interaction (NCI) plot index analysis reveals the existence of the O⋯π-hole interactions that have been evaluated using DFT calculations. The Cremer and Pople ring puckering parameters are also investigated. The complexation reactions of these molecules with M were investigated by solution studies. The stoichiometry of the most abundant species in the solution was very close to the corresponding crystals. Finally, the effect of N-oxidation on the geometry of complexes has been also studied using the Cambridge Structural Database. It shows that complexes containing N-oxidized H2pydc are very rare.

Abstract
A nanohybrid was prepared from polyoxotungstate anion and graphene oxide (POT/GO) and characterized in terms of porosity by applying Fourier transform infrared and transmission electron microscopy. The nanohybrid was applied as a sorbent for the dispersive micro solid-phase extraction of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) ibuprofen, diclofenac, and naproxen. Different types of sorbents were compared, and the POT/GO nanohybrid was found to have the best adsorption affinity. The NSAIDs were quantified via HPLC with UV detection. Under the optimum conditions, the limits of detection (at an S/N ratio of 3) range between 0.02-0.03 ng.mL-1, and the linear response ranges extend from 0.08-200 ng.mL-1, respectively. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) for five replicates at three concentration levels (0.1, 5 and 100 ng.mL-1) of NSAIDs ranged from 4.1 to 6.1%. The applicability of the method was confirmed by analyzing spiked real water samples, and satisfactory results were obtained, with recoveries between 95.6 and 99.6%. Abstract
A new inorganic–organic hybrid based on an aspartate functionalized polyoxomolybdate, [pentaaquacobalt(II)]-μ-aspartate-[γ-octamolybdate]-μ-aspartate-[pentaaquacobalt(II)] tetrahydrate, [Co2(C4H6NO4)2(γ-Mo8O26)(H2O)10]·4H2O (1), has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions from the reaction of an Evans–Showell-type polyoxometalate, (NH4)6[Co2Mo10H4O38], and L-aspartic acid. The complex exhibits a supramolecular three-dimensional framework structure in the crystal lattice. Compound 1 was structurally characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV–Vis (diffuse reflectance) spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In this compound, aspartic acid acts as a bridge between the two Co atoms and the Mo centres, with the –CH2COOH side chain directly linked to the Mo centre in γ-[Mo8O26]4− and the α-carboxylate side chain bound to the Co centre. Commonly, the binding of transition-metal complexes to POMs involves coordination of the metal to a terminal O atom of the POM so that 1, with a bridging ligand between Mo and Co atoms, belongs to a separate class of hybrid materials. While the starting materials are both chiral and one might expect them to form a chiral hybrid, the decomposition of the chiral Evans–Showell-type POM and its conversion to the centrosymmetric γ-octamolybdate POM, plus the presence of two aspartate ligands centrosymmetrically placed on either side of the POM, leads to the formation of an achiral hybrid. We have studied energetically by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations and using the Bader's `atoms-in-molecules' analysis the electrostatically enhanced hydrogen bonds (EEHBs) observed in the solid state of 1, which are crucial for the formation of one-dimensional supramolecular assemblies.
