Abstract
Novel silver nanoparticles were synthesized based on a simple and non-toxic method by applying the green synthesis technique, using, for the first time, the aqueous extract of an extremophile plant belonging to the Achillea maritima subsp. maritima species. AgNP characterization was performed via UV-Visible, front-face fluorescence spectroscopy, and FTIR and XRD analyses. AgNP formation was immediately confirmed by a color change from yellow to brown and by a surface plasmon resonance peak using UV-Vis spectroscopy at 420 nm. The biosynthesized AgNPs were spherical in shape with a size ranging from approximatively 14.13 to 21.26 nm. The presented silver nanoparticles exhibited strong antioxidant activity following a DPPH assay compared to ascorbic acid, with IC50 values of about 0.089 µg/mL and 22.54 µg/mL, respectively. The AgNPs showed higher antidiabetic capacities than acarbose, by inhibiting both alpha amylase and alpha glucosidase. The silver nanoparticles could affect various bacterial mechanisms of virulence, such as EPS production, biofilm formation and DNA damage. The silver nanoparticles showed no lysozyme activity on the cell walls of Gram-positive bacteria. The AgNPs also had a strong inhibitory effect on the Candida albicans virulence factor (extracellular enzymes, biofilm formation). The microscopic observation showed abnormal morphogenesis and agglomeration of Candida albicans exposed to AgNPs. The AgNPs showed no cytotoxic effect on human cells in an MTT assay. The use of novel silver nanoparticles is encouraged in the formulation of natural antimicrobial and antidiabetic agents.

Abstract
A novel organic-inorganic hybrid non-centrosymmetric superconductor material [2-ethylpiperazine tetrachlorocuprate(II)] has been synthesized and investigated by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray crystallography, thermal analyses, and density functional theory (DFT) studies. The single-crystal X-ray analysis indicates that the studied compound crystallizes in the P212121 orthorhombic space group. Hirshfeld surface analyses have been used to investigate non-covalent interactions. Organic cations [C6H16N2]2+ and inorganic moieties [CuCl4]2- alternatively connect N-H···Cl and C-H···Cl hydrogen bonds. In addition, the energies of the frontier orbitals, highest occupied molecular orbital, lowest unoccupied molecular orbital, the reduced density gradient analyses and quantum theory of atoms in molecules analyses, and the natural bonding orbital are also studied. Furthermore, the optical absorption and photoluminescence properties were also explored. However, time-dependent/DFT computations were utilized to examine the photoluminescence and UV-vis absorption characteristics. Two different methods, 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl radical and 2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid radical scavenging, were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the studied material. Furthermore, the title material was docked to the SARS-CoV-2 variant (B.1.1.529) in silico to study the non-covalent interaction of the cuprate(II) complex with active amino acids in the spike protein.

Abstract
Coordination polymers (CP) and metal-organic frameworks (MOF) have become a topic of immense interest in this century primarily because of the structural diversity that they offer. This structural diversity results in their multifaceted utility in various fields of science and technology such as catalysis, medicine, gas storage or separation, conductivity and magnetism. Their utility inspires a large variety of scientists to engage with them in their scientific pursuit thus creating a buzz around them in the scientific community. Metals capable of forming CPs and MOFs are primarily transition metals. Among them vanadium-based CPs and MOFs demand detailed discussion because of the unique nature of vanadium which makes it stable in many oxidation states and coordination number. Vanadium’s versatility imparts additional structural marvel and usefulness to these CPs and MOFs.

Abstract
Vanadium compounds have been set in various fields as anticancer, anti-diabetic, anti-parasitic, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial agents. This study reports the synthesis and structural characterization of oxidovanadium(IV)-based imidazole drug complexes by the elemental analyzer, molar conductance, magnetic moment, spectroscopic techniques, as well as thermal analysis. The obtained geometries were studied theoretically using density functional theory (DFT) under the B3LYP level. The DNA-binding nature of the ligands and their synthesized complexes has been studied by the electronic absorption titrations method. The biological studies were carried with in-vivo assays and the molecular docking method. The EPR spectra asserted the geometry around the vanadium center to be a square pyramid for metal complexes. The geometries have been confirmed using DFT under the B3LYP level. Moreover, the quantum parameters proposed promising bioactivity of the oxidovanadium(IV) complexes. The results of the DNA-binding revealed that the investigated complexes bind to DNA via non-covalent mode, and the intrinsic binding constant (Kb) value for the [VO(SO4)(MNZ)2] H2O complex was promising, which was 2.0 × 106 M−1. Additionally, the cytotoxic activity of the synthesized complexes exhibited good inhibition toward both hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG-2) and human breast cancer (HCF-7) cell lines. The results of molecular docking displayed good correlations with experimental cytotoxicity findings. Therefore, these findings suggest that our synthesized complexes can be introduced as effective anticancer agents.

Abstract
Herein, we report novel Co(II) and V(IV) complexes synthesized from an (E)-2-(((2-((2-hydroxyethyl)amino)quinolin-3-yl)methylene)amino)ethan-1-ol ligand (L), cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate, and vanadyl(IV) sulfate in methanolic solutions. The ligand and the complexes were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy,13C NMR spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX), mass spectroscopy (MS), thermal analysis, and molar conductance. The FT-IR spectral data showed that the ligand adopted a tridentate fashion when binding with the metal ions via the nitrogen atoms of the imine (C=N) and amine (N-H), and the oxygen atom of the hydroxyl group (O-H). The PXRD and SEM results indicated that the complexes are amorphous in nature. The density functional theory (DFT) calculated absorption and IR spectra agree very well with the corresponding experimental results. The antibacterial activities of the free ligand and its complexes were evaluated using a paper disk diffusion method. The complexes have better percent activitiy index than the free ligand. The cobalt complex exhibited a more recognizable antibacterial activity than the vanadium complex, specifically against Pseudomonas aeruginosa with a mean inhibition zone of 18.62 ± 0.19 mm, when compared with the positive control, ciprofloxacin, with a mean inhibition zone of 22.98 ± 0.08 mm at the same concentration. Furthermore, the antioxidant activities of the free ligand and its metal complexes were also determined in vitro using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl. The ligand exhibited less in vitro antioxidant activity than its transition metal complexes, in which the cobalt complex has a better antioxidant activity with half-inhibitory concentrations (IC50 of 16.01 μg/mL) than the ligand and the vanadium complex. Quantum molecular descriptors from the DFT calculations further support the experimental results. Molecular docking analysis also shed more light on the biological activities of the novel cobalt and vanadium complexes.

Abstract
Infection of skin injuries by pathogenic microbial strains is generally associated if not treated with a lasting wound bed oxidative stress status, a delay in healing process, and even wound chronicity with several human health complications. The aim of the current study was to explore the antioxidant and antimicrobial potentialities of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) extracted oil from seeds by cold pressing which would be beneficial in the management of skin wounds. Antioxidant capacity of the oil was evaluated (scavenging ability against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP)). Total phenolic, total flavonoid, total carotenoid, and total chlorophyll contents were determined. Antimicrobial activities of safflower oil were tested against 10 skin pathogenic microorganisms: 4 bacterial strains (Escherichia coli, Enterobacter cloacae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus agalactiae), 3 yeast species strains (Candida albicans, Candida parapsilosis, and Candida sake), and 3 fungi species (Aspergillus niger, Penicillium digitatum, and Fusarium oxysporum). A notable antioxidant capacity was demonstrated for the tested oil that exhibited moreover high antibacterial effects by both bacteriostatic and bactericidal pathways including lysozyme activity. An antifungal effect was further observed on the spore's germination. Safflower oil could be considered as a good natural alternative remedy in the management of skin wounds and their possible microbial infections.
