Abstract
The effects of various organic additives, such as diethanolamine (DEA) and ethanolamine (EA), and variations in aging times on the formation and stability mechanisms of spherical aggregates of ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) prepared by using solvothermal synthesis were studied. The experimental results of the structural, morphological and optical properties monitored by using X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and UV-Vis spectroscopy were supported by quantum chemical calculations at the level of density functional theory (DFT). Understanding the mechanism of spherical ZnO aggregate formation and its stability by mimicking the processes at the computer level was achieved through theoretical simulations of the ZnO surface/additive interactions using (ZnO)36-DEA and (ZnO)36-EA models. The fine-tuned spherical aggregation of ZnO nanoparticles was driven by various interactions, in particular, strong O-H∙∙∙O and weak N-H∙∙∙O hydrogen bonds as controlling interactions. The calculated negative free release energy, ∆G*INT, indicates that the ZnO surface/additive interaction in diethanolamine media is a spontaneous exergonic process (∆G*INT = -7.73 kcal mol-1), whereas, in ethanolamine media, it is an unfavorable, slightly endergonic process (∆G*INT > 0). The presence of two strong O-H∙∙∙O hydrogen bonds and, at the same time, a weaker N-H∙∙∙O hydrogen bond is the key factor for the very good and long-term aggregate stability of ZnO NPs in DEA media. This integrated experimental-theoretical study highlights the stability and compactness of spherical ZnO aggregates of ZnO NPs, prepared in the presence of diethanolamine compared to ethanolamine media, and provides a promising method and flexible design of ZnO nanomaterials to improve their adsorptive and optical properties.

Abstract
The hydrothermal synthesis of zinc oxide (ZnO) particles from zinc acetylacetonate monohydrate in "pure" aqueous solution and in aqueous NaOH solution at 90 °C is reported. The structural and morphological properties of ZnO particles were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), field emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The effect of NaOH on the growth mechanism and photocatalytic performance of hierarchical ZnO structures was investigated. The experimental findings, supported by results of quantum chemical calculations at the level of density functional theory, were used to propose the mechanism of nucleation and preferential growth of finely tuned hollow and nonhollow ZnO structures and their effects on the photocatalytic activity. The calculations indicate that the process of ZnO nucleation in "pure" aqueous solution mainly proceeds by the reaction of small monomers, while tetramers play a crucial role in aqueous NaOH solution. Both the preferred ZnO nanostructure and microstructure growth processes are driven by O-H···O hydrogen bonds as controlling elements. The calculated values of the EO···H interaction indicate a stronger interaction via O-H···O hydrogen bonds in "pure" aqueous media (EO···H = -11.73 kcal mol-1) compared to those obtained in aqueous NaOH solution (EO···H = -8.41 kcal mol-1). The specific structural motif of the (ZnO-H2O)12 dodecamers with calculated negative ΔG*INT free release energy indicates that the formation of anisotropic nanocrystalline ZnO with the c-axis as the primary growth direction is spontaneous and accelerated exclusively in "pure" aqueous solution, whereas it is an unfavorable endergonic process in aqueous NaOH solution (ΔG*INT > 0). Efforts have been made to determine the photocatalytic efficiency of the ZnO samples based on the XAS measurements. ZnO particles obtained in "pure" aqueous solution show the highest photocatalytic activity due to the presence of a larger amount of oxygen vacancies.

Abstract
Under a one-step process, catalyst-free growth of one-dimensional (1D) ZnO hierarchical nanostructures was performed on ZnO-seeded Si substrate by thermal chemical vapor deposition with a perpendicular setup. The morphological and crystallographic properties of the nano/micro-structured ZnO rods were investigated with varying growth temperature and growth time. X-ray diffraction patterns of 1D ZnO double-structured rods showed the hexagonal wurtzite structure. The morphology and crystal structure of the ZnO double-structured rods were sensitive to the growth temperature and growth time. From Raman scattering and photoluminescence spectra, the orientation and size effects of the ZnO double-structured rods were discussed in relation to growth temperatures and growth times.

Abstract
Zinc oxide nanoparticles were successfully synthesized under precipitation processes, using ZnSO4·7H2O as a Zn2+ precursor and K2CO3 used as a basic source, and hydrozincite was obtained as an intermediary, which was treated under two procedures; first procedure involved multiple stages to get final precipitated with NaOH, and in the second procedure the hydrozincite was straightforwardly dried at 220 °C. By both processes ZnO structures were obtained, which were turned into nanoparticles by a solvothermal treatment, for four hours in ethylene glycol at 200 °C. The final products for the first procedure was conglomerate of spherical nanoparticles with sizes ranged between 5-10 nm and dispersed ellipsoidal nanoparticles for the second procedure. Apart off the two procedures mentioned above, another synthesis was carried out with the same Zn2+ precursor but now using NaOH, and the solvothermal treatment produced ZnO mixed micro-structures which under ultrasonic cavitation disaggregated on mesoporous ZnO nanoplates of hexagonal shapes with nanopore sizes of approximately 0.35 nm. All ZnOs synthesized were structurally characterized with XRD, TEM and FT-IR techniques, and electronically with UV-Vis absorption and diffuse reflectance spectroscopies.

Abstract
In this study, the role of Mn-substitution on the structural, morphological, dielectric, and magnetic properties of Al-doped ZnO nanoparticles has been examined, using XRD, FE-SEM, μAutolab/FRA2 impedance spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) techniques. Structural investigations revealed diffraction peaks consistent with JCPDS card No. 036-1451. Morphological evaluations of the synthesized nanoparticles indicated that the shape of the nanoparticles is a slightly hexagonal and generally spherical structure with a size range of approximately 10-70 nm. Dielectric measurements were performed in frequency ranges between 10-3 Hz and 1 MHz. The results show that the sample's dielectric behavior is affected both by crystallite size and doping material type. In addition, it can be observed that the dielectric parameters exhibit extreme frequency dependence. Mn-substituted Al-doped ZnO is a suitable candidate for high-frequency applications due to its low dielectric loss at high frequencies. The AC conductivity of the Mn-substituted Al-doped ZnO sample increases with each frequency increment, and its value is higher than for the Al-doped ZnO sample, makings it a desirable material for use in device applications. Magnetic calculations, extracted from dielectric impedance spectroscopy measurements, are also investigated. Complex magnetic permeability, together with magnetic loss curves, are also plotted. Finallly, a study of the magnetic properties of the sample, using VSM, showed room-temperature ferromagnetic behavior.

Abstract
Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a multifunctional material due to its exceptional physicochemical properties and broad usefulness. The special properties resulting from the reduction of the material size from the macro scale to the nano scale has made the application of ZnO nanomaterials (ZnO NMs) more popular in numerous consumer products. In recent years, particular attention has been drawn to the development of various methods of ZnO NMs synthesis, which above all meet the requirements of the green chemistry approach. The application of the microwave heating technology when obtaining ZnO NMs enables the development of new methods of syntheses, which are characterised by, among others, the possibility to control the properties, repeatability, reproducibility, short synthesis duration, low price, purity, and fulfilment of the eco-friendly approach criterion. The dynamic development of materials engineering is the reason why it is necessary to obtain ZnO NMs with strictly defined properties. The present review aims to discuss the state of the art regarding the microwave synthesis of undoped and doped ZnO NMs. The first part of the review presents the properties of ZnO and new applications of ZnO NMs. Subsequently, the properties of microwave heating are discussed and compared with conventional heating and areas of application are presented. The final part of the paper presents reactants, parameters of processes, and the morphology of products, with a division of the microwave synthesis of ZnO NMs into three primary groups, namely hydrothermal, solvothermal, and hybrid methods.

Abstract
Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) are multifunctional oxide metal nanoparticles that have been considered by many due to their unique properties including UV filtration, semiconducting, antimicrobial, antifungal, and photocatalytic activity. In the present study, ZnO-NPs have been synthesized from Zn(SO4)·7H2O through the use of "green synthesis" method that utilizes Prosopis farcta aqueous extract. The characterization of synthesized ZnO-NPs have been performed by UV-Vis absorption, Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Raman, Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). Results have illustrated that the synthesized nanoparticles contain a hexagonal shape and sheet form with sizes of 40-80 nm. The antifungal activity of ZnO-NPs against Candida albicans has shown that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) were 128 and 256 μg/ml, respectively. The cytotoxicity activity of synthesized nanoparticles was tested on breast cancer cells (MCF7), while the IC50 was calculated to be 90 μg/ml.
